Terrific 30 mile pootle on great bridleways & lanes in the far northeast corner of Northumberland with my good buddy @The EMF
Nothing too high or technical just a nice chilled ride with some terrific scenery in good company ..a supreme summer ride ...

Out with my old mate Ian Bell today ..cant remember the last time we rode together ..
Although he stocks ebikes in his shop ..Ian is still old school and isn't ready for one yet ( 70+) ..I wouldn't be able to keep up with him on a normal mtb ..but readjusted so we rode mostly together..
Fabulous day in the Cheviot Hills where the weather had cooled down after the scorching start to the week ..on some of the trails to be ridden on the upcoming group rideout ..

Great ride and good to be riding with Ian again..to celebrate we had to stop off for a pint at the newly refurbished pub ( The Star ) in Harbottle ..what a fantastic job they have made of it ..

No one in Australia drinks Fosters!

Today I learned to NEVER tell a strong independent woman how you rode down a rock roll on a techy trail. This was the first time I have been down this trail and it was pretty raw with some steep rooty lose chutes and a few decent rock rolls thrown in. This part was off camber and was a little slippery. All I said was "stay left as I slid that way!" I was TOLD by my wife that she was capable of picking her OWN lines and didn't need my help at all! Lesson learned!

A pic from our mellow ride yesterday. On a whim followed an unmarked trail cut by the Forestry Commission near Bignor Hill in West Sussex UK and came across this. If there's an energy shortage this winter we just might know where to find a ready supply of fire wood. ;)

Now that’s a proper blast from the past!
Me and a couple of mates had them stripped to the bare bones to ride off road……great fun
for a soon to be teenager (in the previous century) 🤣

Today's ride I won't forget anytime soon. I've never seen a mechanical like this before.

And ten minutes later, an almighty bang & my mech grenades itself.

Managed to ride it home in top gear & the back brake only. Like having some old Sturmey Archer three speed from the seventies.

As Robert Heinlein said in Time Enough for Love: "Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.“

My first motor bike was a 50cc Mobilette moped, my 18th birthday present.

Wait... you expect us to believe that your brake pad broke in half, and then your derailleur spontaneously fell apart? Or could this wild tale be part of an elaborate hoax to get your wife to approve the purchase of new brakes and AXS shifting? 😄

NEW BIKE DAY - Waiting for the week of dry weather and invisiframe before the inaugural ride as it will never be as clean as it is now. Then spent the weekend cleaning the old one for sale plus changing over: disc rotors, seat, pedals, bars and grips, making tyres tubeless and having a kiox put on it. Also waiting on a 27.5 rear wheel and a engine guard. Think it looks faaasssttttt just sitting there anyway.

My greatest fear is after I die, Mrs Rusty sells my bikes for what I told her I paid for them.

Whistler has had a slow start up this year with the construction on the new lifts, all the late snow, then rain making the top half of the mountain, 1/3 of the size it usually is. The trails that are open are either bombed out or Double Black and bombed out making kids lessons a unique experience indeed! There are 2 lines on the famous rock on the trail they use for the Garbonzo DH during Crankworx. The triple hump rock roll or the racer's gully line. Both are not without their challenges and consequences. These kids were checking out the triple hump. I saw several successful kids do both lines and a couple of kids rag doll their way down their choice of line only to be ejaculated off their bike while the others cheered them on (or off in this case). No tears were shed during this display of prepubescent macho tomfoolery. Don't you miss peer pressure?
