New Pinion integrated gearbox and motor (MGU)

My heart balance between a saturn , and the Dji (not because of power, but for the weight / compacity).

Ideally, i'd like to choose between a NICOLAI Saturn, and a NICOLAI G1 (all new) with a Dji motor and integrated battery (in a perfect or ideal world).

And you, if you had to deal with such a dilemna : what would be your choice, and why ?

Would be interested to gather some thoughts for a custom build for the Nicolai Saturn 16 MGU that I am contemplating for later this year

I am not decided yet for the shock, coil or air? Haven't tested the bike and not sure which one works best for this type of suspension. Rob mentioned few times that the Float X2 was the best for his Kenevo and so I've been told for the Levo

I like the Magura MT7 but the bleeding and pads replacement can be more time-consuming and expensive than the TRP DH-R Evo which does offer the same rotors set up 223mm & 203mm

Any specific wheel sets for the single-speed sprocket? Is the DT Swiss HX 1700 Spline is still the optimum choice despite the rear hub made for regular cassettes? And I don't see the value in getting the carbon set HXC for so much more $$$ and saving a few grams on a 25kg+ bike

Seat post Reverb for the hassle free no cable

Happy with the OEM continental tyres but to set up in tubeless

I am open to ideas and suggestions

@Rob Rides EMTB I am sure you already thought of the list of components for this build. I am also sold on the relevance and game changer the MGU offers for eMTB
For the hub, you shouldn’t look any further than the Onyx Classic, they make a SS specific in boost which I’ve used on all my SS builts, either gearboxed or regular single-speed. They last and roll for ever … but living in Spain, mud ain’t a big issue as some others have reported in UK.

I talked to the Gates guys at the Taipei show yesterday. Sounds like the MGU is a long way off being available to most OEMs. Pinion just working with a few German speaking brands initially.
Frustrating, but makes sense and I'd rather they took this slow approach and got it right than rushed it.
The pinion gearbox itself seems well matured now and so hopefully they will sort all this out.
Well, the SmartShift which is at the core of the electronic shifting they are using in the MGU is far to be perfect, but very very far from my experience. So it’s a cool concept, future is there but I will wait until IntraDrive sends me their product so that I can bolt it into a Shimano bracket and see what an other future looks like!

Sorry if this has already been answered, but is there an easy way of derestricting the Pinion MGU on the Saturn 16? It's on my shortlist of eMTBs but I won't consider anything with a permanent 15mph limit.

I’m also interested in this. You might want to email several of the companies that make them and ask if they are or will be making something for that motor. I would start with Speedfun. Let us know what they say. 👍🏼

I only found this so far: Pinion MGU bikespeed-RS calculator

And someone here says it doesn't work any more: Pinion MGU Derestricting with Bikespeed

Doesn't look like Speedfun has one:
