Really pissed at specialized. I have 2 2017's and just taking delivery of a 2018 carbon comp today. My phone was on auto update for apps, so I don't have the old mission control now.

Read that someone said the update is great, its just like riding a regular bike. If I wanted to ride a regular bike, I would have just bought another Regular bike! I need that strong low end torque off a quick pedal to climb the steep stuff around here. Update sounds like it just bricked my bike for what I ride. The whole point for me was to access awesome areas that you could only get to from hiking before.

If you get a bike that has the new firmware, can you still set acceleration to race with be BELevo app? I haven't seen the other 2 mentioned in the app store in the US.

Mostly about small charges to keep lbs going..
The two quotes that actually quote real time experience are very positive towards effort in and proformance out.
I have used z-works app to achieve this will be nice not to have to stray away to achieve this.
I hope that you enjoy your experience as i have and don’t get sucked into this gossip...

I would advise you to read the thread as it seems you missed the entire point, not 1 single thing you wrote is even remotely related to they underlying point I was making.

I have to agree with cyclones point, his delivery is a bit raw, but he is absolutely right in all fairness.

However, posts like this really don't contribute much to the community, especially a first post from new member.

The admin has already said "stop it" and it was resolved, posts like this are just gas lighting a situation that was already resolved, and really don't do much for anyone, or anything.

I am sure he is like me and doesn't get his feelings hurt so easy. I talked to him like a brother, saying we don't need to keep beating that dead horse about what the concerns are. I have no ill will against him, he is obviously smart enough to get a few of these awesome bikes and he is articulate. People need to stop getting offended so easily lol. I was 100% just teasing, hoping to move the conversation along. I concur with his concerns, it is ridiculous they don't allow a localized free update; it is dumb they alienated their customers by forcing a huge ride changing update.

I know most of you are UK based; Americans are universally perceived as rude for our bluntness. I learned in my university business communications class, that many other nations add fluff to their communications, to build rapport, but we generally get right to the point to solve issues quickly. We get reprimanded in a professional setting for not concisely articulating.

I looked at the Specialized firmware as it was hooked up to my new 2018 carbon comp levo today. It was version X.17.1 with the remote on version 1.3.5, motor f_5.0.4 and battery A.16.3. The new version is the same, except for the battery is version A.17.1 and overall update is X.23.1 (as mentioned elsewhere). Anyone getting a new bike soon, should not have to worry about the new firmware being pre-installed imo.

Also really cool; my Revelation fork did not come with the Solo Air Spring, as it has before. It seems to be a 2019 Revelation fork and it says Debon Air on the fork.

Quick note on the update: It could end up being an alright deal for many of us, I have literally blown up a few chains, even while shifting carefully and easing into a new gear on turbo/trail.

Used the new app today on battery 22.3 and changed support to 15/35/65 with 100 peak power (and eco acceleration mode by default behind the scenes now supposedly).

Was very happy, certainty not missing a race mode for myself. 65 still made me wheelie in tight switchbacks. No complaints, rode for a couple hours and climbed 550m vert. Only used 30 - 40% of battery with me loaded up at around 95kg on a 24kg large Kenevo.

I've also been told something by another Kenevo owner that I have not yet tested, if you hold down the S (Specialized symbol) button on your bar remote, it'll go to 100 assist and 100 max power. Considering I run my boost mode only at 65, this would effectively be a fourth mode for 100/100. Can anyone confirm or test?

I bought my bike about 10 days ago, and being the shop demo they didn't have time at that juncture to give it the "gold service" going through. They set it up for me to use and bring back.
Honestly I had no idea bike shops were that busy (good economy wise). Thus it was pure chance it was booked in Thursday which co-incided with the upgrade.
Today is the first chance i'll have to take her for a ride post update (been so busy thus no posting) and I can hopefully see what changes impact me. And can report back upon my views later.
Now, I obviously took it back to the dealer I bought it from, a Concept Store actually. When I heard about the app upgrade (and hence the battery firmware) I had already dropped the bike off (night before) at the store so called them. Even being a "Concept Store" they were unaware of any upgrade but called me back within 5 mins after contacting Specialized, which would indicate to me that they were on the ball anyway.
I think the upgrade should be free also, but do understand that shops could expect to be paid for doing it IF you had not purchased from them or have a historic relationship with them. The analogy to the motor industry is moot I imagine as car dealers "charge back" such work to the manufacturer, if Specialized has not set up such a system for shops selling their products then it is totally unreasonable to expect such shops to do work for free. The upgrade does not take long (had long chat with tech at my store), but they still have to stop what they are doing/make time to do anything.
The whole e bike phenomenon is in it's infancy so I would expect teething troubles, as a professional photographer originating in film and know all too well the upheaval when digital cameras came into the picture. Also, the strife that some complain of about certain camera firmware changes (and some of my cameras cost more than these bikes, sans the necessary lenses) makes this thread look like nothing. In the end the manufacturer does what it believes and we have to accept their choices, they simply cannot please everyone.
As for "safety issues", I must have missed that but nowhere have I seen that this upgrade is in any way shape or form safety related, in fact (having previously lived in the US for many years) Specialized being based in California, one of the most Litigious states in the union, I would say they would be so aware of any safety issues and their possibilities for legal action that it's not funny.

Sadly I can only see this (the ebike) industry becoming more contentious as it grows. Anything that contains electronics/digital is easily open to software changes/updates. This will never please everyone. Also it opens up for third party programmers to "alter" code and change manufacturer defined settings. These things also open up comment from uninformed public or those with a negative disposition to complain and the press being what it is (looking for non news as it believes the truth cannot be handled anymore, don't get me started on censorship) then we could eventually see a "drone" situation (before I get jumped on, I do film but am not a drone operator and firmly believe training should be necessary for all, as it is legally for any professional use, but am using it as an example of new technology that has come to light and often reported in a negative way).

Hopefully as the technology matures and companies become more used to upgrades/software/apps etc. things will become more fluid (It certainly has in the photography world but it took time).
And hopefully companies can implement a situation where neither customer or shop is inconvenienced nor lose money by coming up with a solution whereas all are compensated. However, it would seem as it stands, yes the upgrade is free from Specialized but shops cannot operate for free. Until compensation from manufacturer is arranged I cannot see how this will change.
In the case of "online" sales I would expect the manufacturer to arrange to the customers satisfaction a local shop to deal with.

Now, I'm off for a ride finally and will have to spend time playing with settings now they have all changed on me, oh the drama :)

I wonder if the bike does not do - after update, what you bought it for then is it no longer “fit for purpose” and under consumer law you can reject it???? Just thinking.

Ok, just back from a hot sweaty ride.
Now, bear in mind everyone rides differently, has different measurements etc. so any observations are purely personal.

I actually bought the bike (2018 Carbon Comp) as i'm not getting any younger and want to get a little fitter and also as I'm a professional photographer and shoot mainly action sports out in the wilds (mainly dog sledding, bike jour, canicross etc.) and thought the bike may assist me cover more trail points for different photo ops, That being said I'm using the bike (thus far) as a training tool and eventually a trail assistant.
Over the 10 days I've owned the bike I have covered about 40 miles with another 22 covered today from first ride with new firmware.
Generally I do not stop, I like to keep moving and heart rate up but today I did stop three times to alter Mission Control settings.
What I found was, the update appears to be geared towards riding. What I mean is that you get out what you put in more equally now as before I felt one could be a little more "lazy" (hate the term but nothing else comes to mind). I spend most of my time in Eco and work the gears, prob. Eco 75%, Trail 22% and Turbo 3%. With that in mind I felt the motor was more effortless/telepathic, in that it appeared to seamlessly assess when required and with a smoothness not encountered previously. The ride was silky and no more tiring than before (but again I ride a certain way). Honestly, still much tinkering can be played with but I'm happy enough. I did not buy the bike for a road speed madness, just to cover more ground and have fun. In this regard the bike is operating flawlessly. My neighbour has a Bold Focus and I smoke him (but not a fair comparison really). I have not tinkered with any third party apps, just Mission Control.
Just my quick feedback from a 22 mile blast this am.

I hope this is actually true, as it would validate the final point that I said would happen, but hasn't yet.
I stated a few pages ago, to "outerlimits" situation, That users would get charged again to upgrade to 23.2 to fix a bug/error specialised made themselves :p after paying to get 23.1

It's the only thing that I listed as a potential issue (especially for my predicament) that hasn't actually happened yet.

However, Every other single point/issue that I mentioned/raised HAS happened within 24 hours of this arriving, and i mentioned this exact scenario a few posts back.

The hilarity is, I'm not talking from a uneducated point of view, look at your gaming devices and think about why there is a beta / opt in experience and think about "who" might QA that and why/how. Then you can figure out what I do for a living and why I think this is total BS. (And correctly predicted this farce within minutes of the announcement).

My lessons learned file doesn't need updating with these situations, they are already in, theirs obviously does though ;)

I want this to be true, just to prove a point at how utterly absurd this pay for FW updates situation actually is! :)
I checked with all the dealers in my city and none of them have every charged anyone for a Levo update weird some there have.

Honestly I doubt will be any help as only played with settings three times (lot more fiddling to do) but end up on this.

Suffered through all 9 pages of this thread - WOW - what a mess of confusion!

Was never happy with the Mission Control App so installed Z-works three weeks ago and was very impressed. Z-works seems to offer all the "infinite Tune" properties plus many more options. Using the Zeus + Mode the motor responds with a very natural feel and battery range is greatly increased, will be exploring more Z-works options.

Unless a real need presents itself, I will not be using the new MIssion Control App.

I still get enough power from the bike to start mid hill without a problem and trail is more useful as it has more peak power if your on a unfamiliar trail and come across an unexpected climb.
Battery life from what I can estimate is 10% better than before.

My opinion I think this new firmware will help the long term longevity of the Levo specially the drive trains. When I first got the Levo I wanted speed speed speed now as I have gotten fitter I want to ride further and do more technical trails so this software fits me well. I like the fact that it makes the bike more adaptable and gives it a more finished feel than the old firmware where motor would decide to come on by itself and power at the wrong time exiting corners .

I like it, I think I’ll update my second battery now

My feelings exactly. Feels more refined for want of a better word. More accomodating for off road riding rather than unpredictable teenager.

FWIW having previously been happy using the 'bug' mode (Eco 25,Trail 35, Turbo 45,Max Current 20%, Acc 75%) I tried the new infinite power settings yesterday after my dealer here in Australia advised they had updated my bike. For my first ride I initially set (Support %,Peak Power %) at Eco 50,70 Trail 70,100, Turbo 100,100. This was too powerful as I was getting up hills in Eco that I previously used Turbo on briefly, so I did the rest of the ride on Eco 30,65 Trail 65,90 Turbo 100,100. These were ok & I was quite happy with the ride compared to what I used to have & I seemed to use around the same amount of battery power, but think I may still go a bit lower in the first 2 modes..

I set my working heart rate at 145 bpm . . . and even on stock settings in the BLEvo application, the experience was ground breaking. I'm going to operate my bike this way, all the time. Whether I choose a higher working rate, or a more relaxed mode, it's a great way to both work out, and enjoy your Levo or Kenevo.

I have my Strava link to the ride here - all fields are now operative (though I needed to purchase a Premium account) : 48.2 km Mountain Bike Ride on June 2, 2018 by Tori D. on Strava At one point my heart rate approached 180bmp - on a very steep climb section that I tried repeatedly as I was going for a 'clean' shot. Good times!

I use HR zones for most of my training & social rides works great for me

Rode another 36kms today on loamy Singletrack and my initial opinion still stands. I managed to knock 20 seconds off of my quickest ebike strava segment time (6 minute segment) mainly because the power can be dialled on more precisely. Also battery life for me today was 10% better. Nice!!

Just noticed on MCA since I Up-dated the wheel circumference has changed I’m sure it was 2250 but now is 2300 any thoughts or I’m I just seeing things

Yep, your right, along with all the other defaults.
Just set it where it is most accurate.. somewhere between 2000 and 2400 should do it. 2281 is what mine measures

Are you riding a levo mate I’ve no idea how the wheel circumference are worked out ?
