How are they exempt? Are you saying they are unable to get the upgrade? Or are you assuming that everyone will forgo the upgrade because they may have to pay?
Because anyone who got a bike as a gift (bought by someone else for example) or moves home, or buys directly from specialized.com Is unequivocally EXEMPT from FREE safety and security upgrades.
If the bike was as bought by a family member at xmas / birthday etc in THEIR local store (not yours) and given to you on xmas day etc... YOU ARE EXEMPT FROM FREE SAFTY AND SECURIT UPDATES (but never told of this)
If it was bough the direct from spcialized.com the same applies.
IF you move home after buying a bike, the same applies.
It's not difficult to understand?
I'm baffled that's you can't comprehend this simple point.
There are people here currently living and expereicmng this realty right now. I know it doesn't affect you, but that doesn't make it not real for us.
A prime exampe is this. I bought my car from another country ... another COUNTRY!
But I can still take it to ANY BMW garage ANYWHERE in the U.K. for updates, warranty, etc FREE no matter where the Hell I chose to live!
Why can't I take my Specialized bike to any actual "SPECIALIZED" store.. I'm not talking LBS I'm taking Actual specialized stores or even specialised authorised stores.
Specialized are not charging for the upgrade. Independent shops are. Shops that are not part of Specialized. Free market economy in action right there.
Again INCORRECT!
If I take my bike to an ACTUAL Specialized Store THEY WILL CHARGE ME TOO. Only the Specialized storeTHEY chose to ship it from on their mail order website will support it. And they DONT ship it from your nearest Specialized store, they ship it from one of 30 or so in the country who have what you want in stock and then deliver it to you at your hone.
If the ONLY store that can provided safety upgrades for free, is the same store you buy the bike from (and no other country wide specialised store) this should be noted at POS and plastered all over the website.
"If you chose cto buy a bike dirtkynin our soecialized.cim website and pay online you will be required to travel to wherever the hell we decide to ship it from or pay for all future updates"
Like a car, it should be any official BMW garage can do this free... but any non BMW garage can charge.
specialized sell bikes ONLINE giving those,of us in this situation NO FREE UPDATES EVER!
In outerslimits case, even if he now lived (which he doesnt) 5. minutes away from an actual specialized store, and bought a £9000 Sworks THEY WOULD STILL TELL HIM TO DRIVE 500km round trip OR PAY!
And that's physical brick and Mortor actual "specialized stores" not an independent LBS.
Imagine buying a new car, you pay £35000 for the car. You buy it from BMW Land's End (as that's the only one in blue in the country) you pay via bank transfer / credit card / debit card etc via online or phone.
They deliver your brand new car to you in 10 days.
The day after you receive It, you receive a notice stating they have removed some features due to safety concerns and you have to drive the car to LandsEnd to get it upgraded.
You are telling me that you would accept this and would drive to lands end from john o'groats for an upgrade or would pay every time they upgraded even though you now live next door to an official BMW garage?
You are telling me if you go shopping in London and buy a shirt from Boss, that when you get back home from your weekend shopping trip and find out the shirt has an issue, you would go back to your holiday destination in London to get the shirt fixed rather than go to the boss shop in Leeds?
You are saying if you buy a car in London (when you live there) and move to Ireland with work, that you would take your car back to London for updates rather than Expect BMW to just offer the service at their bearers garage? (Which by the way... they do... that's EXACTLY how it works, but from BMW means you can still move house and receive feee safety upgrades)
Imagine your logic on a world wide scale (like Audi / VW / Toyota) you will see the logic and data follow my logic not yours.
The manufacture says "Take it to your nearest OFFICIAL BMW etc dealer and we will fix it" not drive our unsafe car the length of 2 country's to fix a error we made in the software?

come on mate, you are really being rediculous suggesting this is ok!
And now this DOM! Just like I said! Now we have members getting charged for updates at the shops that SOLD them the bike? Would you look at that! EVERY SINGLE POINT I MADE HAS BECOME A REALITY FOR SOME RIDERS IN UNDER 24hours!
Yet you still defend them?
Phoned Evans Cycles today Maidstone where I brought my Levo from for the free 6 week service & asked about Firm ware up-date as well basically the conversation went “can I book in for my free 6 week service & firm ware up-date” booked in for free service but was then told...I quote “we can’t do the firm ware up-date on the same day as the service because it’s a free service & we charge £20 for the firm ware update which will have to be done on a different day...bearing in mind it’s a 100 mile round trip for me...can’t believe how crap there customer service is...what a load of bollocks
