here the shimano warranty is actually on the battery itself, as is the wiring cable and obviously the motor. Yours should be the same. Canyon will be required to notify you, but its shimanos responsibility

so the canyon page at their site, says we will contact you later, after we figure out what the next steps will be.
I would not assume a new battery is coming just yet, because next step may be an inspection by your nearest Shimano tech. I honestly doubt this. But its how they worded it. They left the door open.
This is all a legal issue, and like car dealers, a stop sale of effected products until there is a resolution that returns the end user to a safe product.

as to inspection, thats a longterm rolling lifetime of inspection as its probable that all plastic casings will fail eventually

If you can return the bike I would do it - even if it is expensive and cumbersome to do.
If the faults issues are by design, there is really not much they will do and the window of solution is clearly unknown.
Do not want to be dramatic but here is it.
Return the bike now.
Shipping from China to Europe by ship is currently around 10 week (shipping is not going thru Suez currently) The bosses are mostly a warm inserting , not ultrasonic

Can the original battery be wrapped in either black electrical tape of a pvc heat shrink sleeve like when building a battery pack to add integrity and prevent cracking and also waterproofing it?

I fly some carbon fiber RC planes and also am a large distributor of water treatment equipment. I have similar blind nuts that are in wing attachments for my RC planes, these are 7,000 watt 180 planes, and in large commercial Reverse Osmosis we use similar on the membrane end plastic caps. Thicker material and on the membrane end caps everyone finally ended up with a stainless steel insert in the mold around those blind nuts to distribute the load. If plastics are left in long enough there is distortion when it is removed from a mold.

Mine too (as discussed here) with random cutouts. @Winford you think it's a thermal problem with the battery? Do you have confirmation about that? Have you seen related error codes showing battery thermal issues? For mine, no error codes / it's a mystery. I have received the warrantied wire + battery but not a motor replacement. Now I'm not supposed to be riding it so...my warranty duration ticks away while the rig sits in my garage.
You have effectively been told by the bike manufacturer that the product is not fit for the purpose for which it was sold. Return the bike and demand a full refund.
What im leaning towards is that these bikes do not like water. I kept my bike and drivetrain spotless because they go through cassettes and chains and brake pads and rotors so quickly. They replaced my motor and wring harness, and now they want to do the second harness, and im waiting for that to arrive but its on back order. Now the batter recall. So here are the details. Bike shut off 2 to 8 times every ride, and that is 30 miles of riding and 4000' of climbing every ride almost daily. After wiring harness I got 2 weeks and no shut offs, before it started acting up again. Then motor swap, last 2 rides. So then I quit washing the bike, for 2 weeks and no shut offs, then for 2 days it shut off bad, maybe 10 times. A thermal shut off took place meaning it took 10 minutes to cool down before it would power on. This TSD has only happened 9 times in 6 months. Now last 2 weeks I have no shut offs. So while Im not 100% on this, the lack of water has given me more trouble free riding, [4 weeks total.] than anything else. Side notes, both motor and battery have thermal protection. and I do not know which one gets activated. The only thing not getting replaced is the battery so far. So if the bike makes it another few weeks without shutting down, washing it, was the problem. If someone lives in a wet environment, id pass on this bike. Pressure wash? NEVER. I have been riding this close to a professional level, 3000 + miles since May and 300,000' of climbing. been through 3 cassettes and 4 chains, one rear rotors, 4 sets of brake pads.

I also own an older Focus with a TecPack. I was thinking I could use it as a replacement. Remove canyon battery and run the Rosenberger up to the TecPack which has the same connection. I would have to figure out a way to mount it or maybe in a frame bag….

The power suddenly turn off when I was ridding 2 weeks ago and couldn’t tur it on again, battery don’t show any damage, bought my CF7 this past July, very very disappointed, 4 weeks at least without my bike it’s frustrating, I hope Canyon will support his loyal clients or gives support for bikes under warranty, to be honest I am not optimistic
Dont wash your bike. Mine shut off for months, because i washed it after every ride. The water fks things up and it throws the motor or battery into thermal shutdown, then it has to cool before starting back up. Once i stopped washing the bike all that went away. Its common for all ebikes. Inspect your case, because it may be longer than 4 weeks

I didn't notice any issues with my battery yet (other issues - I got a third skid plate since September due to low BB and shitty design), but I'm dissapointed with this notification and how its handled.
From my perspective, the reasons of faulty battery packs are not important.
As someone already said here - we were just informed that we cannot use our bikes as intended.
Moreover, they lost their market resell value.
Therefore the healthy solution for us owners (at least for those of us who are not focus on this particular bike model) is to apply for a full refund.
I already did that, waiting for Canyon to reply, we will see how they would like to handle this.
It affects so many customers that it is a base for a group lawsuit in case Cayon decides to take more difficult path to handle this.
I wonder what you think about such approach.

I know that in some countries, there is a consumer protection law, which, for example, allows the return of a car to the dealer if it has been in service for more than several months due to manufacturer failures.
I bought my Spectral:ON this February. Since that, I couldn't use it for the first 2 weeks, cuz Canyon didn't put the charger into the box. Then in the middle of the summer chainstay cracked, and not sure that was my fault, but I bought the new one. They didn't count it as a warranty case. Now I can't ride it for almost a month and don't see the possibility of a good resolution soon. So during the 8 months of ownage, 2 I can not ride, but maybe it will be 4 of 12 months in February.
Can you please keep us in touch with the progression of your request?
And don't we want to file a class action lawsuit against Canyon and get back these unfinished bikes that we can't use and sell? There are so many good deals now from normal brands
Problem for returns is i no longer have the stock fork. Dont really want to send mine back with my zeb ultimate. Canyon are really keeping everyone in the dark at the moment. I wonder what next move will be as a new battery cant be designed/fixed in 4 weeks surely.
They do not know bud, this is Shimanos fault. Shimano covers these for warranty issues. Shimano has to fix this. Canyon just notifies you because they sold us the bikes. Canyon told Shimano what they wanted for these bikes and had Shimano handle the powertrain. So im guessing Canyon and Shimano are not having pleasant conversations about this, and Shimano and the battery company they used, may be having legal issues as well.
As far as modifications? I have installed electronic shifting on my rig, industry nine stem, 220 rotors, carbon bar, and have 3000 miles in 7 months and climbed 327,000' seat already has a crack. If they bought the bike back, they would get it in pieces after I strip my stuff off.
In usa its the lemon law. 3 failures in X amount of time under warranty period for the same failure, and they will buy it back. Time means nothing, during covid people waited a long time due to all the shortages, and many were still forced to pay their lease payments, LL did not apply. Pretty Fd up for the consumer. We are in a bad situation right now. I have not missed a days riding because of it. But so far my housing is not cracked, so park it i will not.

Depending on what you mean by rework. I was not even sure they would give us new batteries. But they said chuck yours out if it has cracks. That means we all get new batteries since they have no idea if consumers even still have a battery. So, they must be gearing up mass producing batteries to ship out. I got a buddy that bought two a months ago, and he never got the email saying his was bad. They know something we do not if not all the 900 batteries are getting recalled. ------ More than likely, they are just using better plastic and producing batteries that have cases that will not crack under normal use.
It depends on how many units sold we are talking about, we are not talking about millions here. Could be just 2k, 10k, we just do not know.
Depending on the numbers they could fix it more quickly, better plastic only, especially if they were on ditching Shimano motor the process could be quicker than going full steam on real long term solution. They could also reinforced with steel some part around fixation but unlikely as it would generate potentially rethinking/design.
I will say it again, even with better plastic there is absolutely no guarantee that it would be a sustainable solution. We can speculate but there is no trust at this stage, I see it even if some disagree as design flaw on fixation parts, and I would ditch the bike asap and advise people to not buy them if they would ever come back online.
Might be wrong but who would in sanity gamble 6k on such bikes knowing this situation, we would only know in 2+ years

We need to remember that lot of people are afraid of DTC, they want to see, test and try and at the very least in France, the most %age of people that are buying ebike are way older with more money and their habits is to buy from a shop and just ride (in the Alps this is what most lbs I know are describing it).

I see this as a significant problem for Canyon primarily because it is a safety rather than just a performance issue. Add to that , there are big brand reputation ramifications. Whichever way Canyon decide to try to resolve the issue the logistics are a nightmare and costs will be high.
The most obvious response will be to replace damaged batteries. Unless they have conducted sufficient investigations and tests to be able to confidently identify the root cause of the failures, the issue could re occur however.
I think for owners Canyon need to not only replace damaged batteries but provide evidence of their investigations and conclusions. Perhaps then taking a leaf out of Specialized's playbook back in 2020 when they provided an extended 4 year warranty for their motor.....for the existing and/or replacement batteries.

they have to replace them all, they told people to throw out bad batteries. so they have no way to even know if you kept yours or chucked it
does suck for them, but financially? their fine. These are backed by Shimano. Its a significant problem for Shimano since they are the ones responsible for replacing them.
