My seatpost was dead (no light and no response to the paddle) when I put a fully charged battery on it today.
As it's older than 2 years I thought I'd have a nosy inside.
I kept the battery attached, removed the 4 rubber bungs either side of the battery with a jeweller's screwdriver and then began to remove the 4 screws with a T6 torx. As I was doing this, the seatpost came to life, so whether I'd dislodged some crud or not I don't know but it's still working and I was also able to update its firmware afterwards.
Hopefully this might be of use to someone one day!
