I've had Covid for the past week. Pretty sure I picked it up, in a clanging irony, at hospital last week, attending a physio appointment for my last physical calamity. Fair to say then, the second half of the year has been a stinker for me from a riding point of view.

The symptoms have been rough, sweats, shivers, never ending hacking cough, streaming nose & everything I eat tastes of nothing but smells like chlorine!

But the reason for this is the breathlessness. That is genuinely scary at times. Even acts like getting dressed can leave me gasping for breath. I'm guessing - praying - it will pass, the idea that it might not is tough for a mountain biker, so I guess I'm looking for reassurance, if you had it, how long until normality returned & did it even?

Sorry you’re not feeling great, best wishes for a speedy and full recovery.

I’ve only knowingly had Covid once, for me it was a short 48 hour thing, shivers/sweats/cough etc. The other symptoms went quickly but a nagging cough remained for a couple of weeks, and lethargy.

Covid has mutated so many times now that who knows what it is and how individuals will be impacted, but the breathing part sounds the most concerning in your case.

Have you got one of those oxygen meters that go on your finger? Might be worth getting one if not and monitor your sats and seek medical attention if they drop too far.

For any particular purpose? I'm definitely towrad the end of the infection, all the symptoms are waning except the breathing, hence my concern.

I agree with @Tooks ref the mutation and the blood oxygen meter. Many smart watches will also measure %SPO2, which is what blood oxygen level is also called by. Percentage Saturation Pressure Oxygen (O2).
Good is anywhere from 95% - 100%. Those levels are where I sit whenever I measure it. If you get below 70% it's time to dial 999. That is based upon a relative who was admitted to hospital because of that. All anecdotal figures. I'm not medically qualified, so Google the levels for your own safety.

My wife and I both had Covid during the pandemic, but we'd had all our shots, and we just felt tired all the time and with mental fog. By mental fog I mean no decision making ability, inability to do more than one thing at a time, no mental arithmetic and so forth. We were trying to complete our VISA for entry to Australia and we just couldn't do it. Then the fog cleared. It lasted no more than a week.

If you still have a bad cough that wakes you up choking and struggling for breath on the floor to the point where you think you might never inhale again, then try sleeping sat up - it really helps.

Definitely feel super weak & agree, lying on my back fels like I just cannot breathe enough, sitting up or switching to lying on my front instantly cures it. No brain fog though, stupid levels remain steady.

If at any point you require medical assistance that record will prove invaluable - for instance, if your lungs have become infected.

Take it steady as you start to recover. It’s different for everyone, but many people report thinking they are ok, doing some minor exercise and then realising they are still suffering and can’t do what they thought.

Right, interesting. Thanks.

1st dibs on your bike mate if it all goes south 🤪
Hopefully you’ll be fine just take it easy recovering as as Dax stated and can take longer than you think !

It's yours & I cleaned it today which was an Herculean effort in the circumstances, so you'd better appreciate it.

Me and the OH had it a few weeks ago but not as bad as you; two or three days feeling rough then a cough. The brain-fog lasted a couple of weeks mind, but was back up to fitness over that time - finger's crossed you're back on it.

If anyone's vaguely interested in the progress of sicknote over here, today is the first day since falling ill I can say there's a tangible easing of symptoms. Over the weekend, I had dizziness, a recurrence of the breathlessness (which is by far the most frightening symptom) a constant background hum of low level nausea & indigestion. All of that is fading away now, although the cough is as bad as ever & I feel exhausted all the time. The only way is up boys.

My little boy got hit a few days ago and now it is my turn- fever, dizziness, aches, super cold and then hot. Ugh

My wife and I suspect that we may have been infected before Covid-19 became known to the public. I thought I had the Flu at the time but it lasted too long for that. (Months). She escaped with very mild symptoms.

Once the virus was identified a number of vaccines were developed (Fizer, Madurna etc. shortly after that a number of Test Kits were made available. Masks and avoiding crowds (ie; hospitals, parties, daycares etc).

Different strain's of Covid are developing as the virus mutates, so regular updated vaccinations may be necessary. My wife oversees the public health care in our region which sometimes involves vaccinations, types of viruses or infective diseases. Alarm bells go off all the time for different viruses. Sources are investigated. Groups are vaccinated, people are isolated. A lot of this happens without causing unnecessary panic to the public.

I only see or hear a fraction of what actual occurs, unless it goes public.

Glad to year that you're improving. Luckily, you've come to the right place. While I might not be a licensed doctor, I'm a mountain bike rider. That's just as good.

I've never had covid, but a year before covid became a thing, I had a very bad respiratory thing going on. I couldn't breathe, coughing was too strenuous, and it was just easier to not breathe. Being an imaginary doctor, I knew this was not good, and that this is exactly how people die. So I went to the doctor. I got a stern old Chinese woman. I don't say that to be racist, just that all the old Chinese women I've met have been polite. She was not that. I told the old lady my symptoms and that I need a cough suppressant. She looked at me like I was an idiot and exclaimed, "No. You need MORE coughing!" Upon reflection, I realized that I really was an idiot and she was right. She prescribed some junk called albuterol. It's a bronchial dilator. The old bird was a genius! I could feel the effects, and it's what was needed to get me on the road to recovery. The stuff is expensive and requires a prescription, so I got several of the inhalers for my at-home drug supply. I've used it a couple time since, and it really does help.

And here you are divulging all her secrets. If I panic today, will it be unnecessary or will it be warranted? Is the end nigh? Is it time to open that bottle of rare whiskey that I've been saving? Time to have wanton sex with the hot neighbor ladies (and the slightly homely one across the street)?

No idea if you’ve got the time or the energy, but yes, and assuming they’re ok with it, why not? 😉

Here’s to 2026 and saying yes to more things! 🤪🤣

Conspiracies develop regardless of the facts. So many decisions become political. Who do we trust? Scientists? Or politicians? Or Dr. Slapsssmonkey?

Yeah, we can't really buy those here. Not legally anyway. Can get Rusty's broncho dilator stuff though, think the brand name is Ventolin here.

“There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there always has been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread... nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'

Humans have an insatiable desire to understand things. But we're also lazy. Instead of leveraging our knowledge and reason, we take the easy way out and attribute mysterious phenomena to god, ghosts, grumpkins, snarks, and Anthony Fauci.

Except when two hockey players square off …Canadians go crazy 🤪
