Brose Motor Warranty

Just curious, have any dealers or specialised replaced any motors outside of the 2 year warranty period?
A new motor seems to around £1000 (or £600 exchange) plus fitting and setting up and I, like many others may need to consider this if I intend to keep hold of my Levo a bit longer. I love the bike but the motor reliability worries me, I’m on my third now!:(

I asked the same thing recently and was told if you buy a new motor it comes with a new 2 year warranty.
Good to hear but have Specialised actually replaced any motors at no cost after the two year warranty period? A £1000 for what is in effect an extended warranty for an unreliable motor is a bit steep in my opinion. I wouldn't mind if the technology was proven, but I guess this will come in time when Brose and Specialised sort out the issues that some of us are experiencing. I also believe that the internals of the Brose Mag S are the same as the previous model just a lighter casing? Not sure if this is correct or not just what I've been told.
Another way of looking at is that if Specialised give a 2 year warranty for every motor from the day it's fitted then that gives us all two years grace. Again not sure if this is correct but seems reasonable to me. Maybe a dealer could enlighten us?

I had my motor replaced by Specialised Australia four months out of warranty, I found that quite impressive.
Also, in Australia, Consumer Law says that goods must be fit for purpose for a reasonable time, beyond the warranty period. Check your local consumer laws.

The motors warranty is from date of purchase of the bike, so if your motor dies 23 months after date of purchase any replacement motor under warranty will only have 1 months warranty

Reason being is that if Specialized gave every motor it replaced under warranty a new 2 year warranty everyone would be trying to break their motor to get a new one every two years and Specialized would be losing lots of money

Ive been told that Bosch did give every replaced motor a brand new 2 year warranty from date of replacement but have now stopped this as it was getting too expensive

I have heard that once your warranty runs out Specialized may replace for free if its only a month or two out of warranty as a good will gesture, that is at their discretion though

Have also been told that once out of warranty and the motor dies then they will offer you an exchange motor for around £500

There are companies out there who are fixing/rebuilding the Brose motors for less than a replacement motor from Specialized, think Bearing man on here does them

At about 1700 km the motor became very noisy and have a major play on the bearings.
I agree with you the normal life should be much longer. Maybe consumer laws can protect you where you live? Maybe a claim in small claims court? My Yamaha has over 3,000kms trouble free.

Yes, but Red, you say you do 300km's a week (chain & cassette thread). So you've only had your bike 10 weeks. OK, it's done 3000 km's which is fantastic and I'm really happy for you and I'm sure you've loved every single one of those kilometres and the fact that you've only had to charge it twice. But it really doesn't help anyone who has a problem with any motor if you sign off every thread with YAMAHA is the BEST My YAMAHA still works. Or, I believe your comment the other day was "no need to be sorry if you've not bought it yet". The Yamaha is a great motor, but I'm sure if you ask about you'll find someone on here who has had a brose, shimano, yamaha, bosch, bafang, hub motor, which has broken after 500km's and I'm sure you'll find someone with 5000+km's with each of those motors who's had no problems.

You've probably got a wealth of useful and interesting knowledge and funny and interesting stories and experiences you could share with the forum. There's no need to keep re-assuring yourself that you've made the right choice by relentlessly repeating it on every thread. You have made the right choice, you bought an e-bike and you're happy with it !
