Bafang M510 RS - discussion, tuning, firmwares

Normally in US you could set max speed at 28mph. I can't help you. I didn't use bafang go (only BESST tool) and in my country when i modified the motor parameters, max speed limit automatically at 25 km/h. No a problem for me, i use motor only to climb on moutain. Request help from SZZS, or another customer in US who use series M motor, or dado. If you recive an software rev (file.bin). Please share it here.
In the meantime I've decompiled and fully annoted the firmware for a 510(non rs) v2.0 and once my Besst tool arrives, I'll see if I can pull the existing firmware and do the same/compare. Looks like I should be able to recompile on my own and fix it myself if there isn't a response from Bafang.

The EBICS firmware FOC Open Source Firmware for Bafang CAN bus controllers with GD32F303 processor is getting mature enough and tested enough to now probably be the way forward if people want to tinker with all parameters of the M820, M510, M560 series engines.

Patdam, it is just STM32 clone. So every STM32 programmer works (not blue controllers, there was differnt microcomputers).

Before I go down the route of DIY, does anyone have a fc4 firmware dump available?

Gears are heavy, planetary with 1 drive motor and 1 very small motor controlling the speed of the planetary will give us all the range and control we need.
Wayne, so not even much time passed by and looks like we are now in an age of eCVT. Unbelievable. Good bye cassetes, goodbye shifters (I like AXS though).

I am looking forward what will be efficiency of these drivetrains with 2 motors. It is elegant solution, I like it.

If somebody is interested how it works, there is lot of videos explaining it on models. I like this guy, which is showing it still on real HW. ICE crankshaft is pedalling shaft.

Been thinking how it works, when you loose battery. I guess there will be a mechanical lock (of sun gear or ring gear - depends which one is input) and then you will stay just with one gear ratio. I guess there must be also one way clutch to bigger motor, not to rotate it by legs.

And I hope Bafang is already working on eCVT also. ;) If other 2 chinese brands did it, should not be a problem for Bafang.

Controllers will be now more complicated. And not that easy to swap for a custom controller...
