Atherton S170.E Dyf-E bike coming soon...

That's 100% not true. DJI offered a very favourable deal to go with them. Bosch have long been the most reliable motor.

I got one of the first wave of atherton bikes for delivery in April. The only thing making me think twice is DJI reliability. Everyone I know with one, has had issues. Then also had problems with long waits on parts. I'm really hoping the gen 2 motor work es these issues. If not, will cancel and go with a yeti lte. Had one for two weeks and it was an amazing bike.

One mate has had two speen sensors replacing. One took 3 weeks to come in stock. Another had a new motor. Another has had a new display as water for into it. Speed sensor and controller issues are pretty common. Even on this forum.

Having ridden both Bosch and DJI the Bosch to me is the nicer motor. I'm putting a lot of faith in athertons that the new motor won't get these issues. I don't care about anything over 80nm. I always detune every motor I ride.

We will soon find out. But the reason I never went with a DJI 1st Gen motor was the issues with them I have seen with my own eyes on friends bikes.
A lot depends on how well the bike is built up from what I hear. I have dropped my bike in a lake under water for 5 mins and it still works fine. I was told by the shop that supply my bike that the Motor is designed to withstand 20 mins under 3 ft of water.

Really have my.fimgers crossed over the battery as well. I know Dan is out testing it nearly daily. Considering DJI won't be releasing an extender I hope the internal is large enough

Honestly, the shop I use also says it’s by far the most reliable E Bike motor. I know that there were some parts suppliers shortages early on. I spoke to a few that have been out testing the new motor, from what I heard it’s more robust etc. I have never had a problem with range the most I have seen is 65 miles range, with 15% remaining. I hear that 130klm has been done on the Mk2 , but no idea what tune sets it had at the time.

I’ve had a dji crestline since july, about 440 miles, been flawless. Really like it and the ecosystem. But makes sense to be leary when everyone you know has had issues. I think overall you hear more about issues than non issues on any system. I went through 3 bikes with shimano, 1 e8000 and 2 ep8’s zero issues as well but heard plenty of horror stories. Another buddy had an ep8 and put 6k+ miles on it without issues.

Based on my experience I’d be willing to buy a used avinox bike and not have much worry.

Yeah, I had a mate with an ep8. 3 motors and two batteries in under 1000 miles 😂 Shimano to be fair did own up and say the water proofing on the system wasn't good enough.

440 miles isn't much though. I do 60-70 miles a week. Hopefully yours is fine. I get things go wrong but the after sales from dji has been horrendous for a couple of them that went wrong. Just seems they need to make more parts available in the country.

But was the aftersales wrong due to them being 'new' to the market as such? Have they caught up now?

you've had your Amflow since the 14th November.
Nope I bought my PL the last week in Sep. I did buy another one later in the year that I leave over in Europe, both have fault free apart from one broken chain.

Well, one guys wheel broke. They said stock was twoonths so maybe he can buy another wheel to keep him going. Another had a five week wait on a speed sensor. Ai responses to questions and emails. It didn't seem good at all. No idea of it's better. Two mates sold them after further issues

Anyone know when this real world testing data on the battery will be published? They said before payment due which is this week...

I know Dan has been testing it the last two weeks. So presume this week.

Be interesting to see it. But then again, Dan is one very for individual. So not sure how much it tells us

So we can expect about half his range

so a question is do you really need a mega battery etc if the bike is more geared for downhill?
Of course you do, how do you get to the top of the downhill 😂

The battery is the only thing making me want to cancel. I can get a Bosch 800wh bike that's lighter than the claimed Atherton weight. So if it's only 600wh, as much as I want to support them, I will go else where. Yeti lte likely.

I really hope they haven't sacrificed the battery. It would be a huge mistake

Are you batch 1? Are you able to cancel after paying balance?

Battery capacity wont be announced until April

I get your humour but most bike parks have an uplift service?

If it comes with a lower capacity battery then it will...
I have no idea what size battery is on this bike. But when I went for size test, I asked about the range and was told that it had seen over 100 klm on test. I get that it all depends on settings etc,I assumed that it has the 800W Battery.

Perhaps I have misunderstood, but are these bikes being ordered without knowing for sure what battery capacity they will come with?

From what I was told by the AMflow dealer I use, it’s that DJI etc have embargo on the tech and battery etc on this new MK2 Motor until April. Taking into account the 1st bikes have to be paid for next week it looks that way, for now at least.

I have a dh bike for bike parks. Everywhere else is on the ebike. 5000-6000ft of elevation in a ride. So if I can't do that, no point in it . I would be hugely disappointed if battery capacity is low

Regarding battery controversy, a few questions:
  1. Is the battery expected to be custom (possibly round or hex) or employ an unaltered Avinox rectangular battery?
  2. What it the likelihood that new M2 Avinox battery form factors will the same or at least backwards compatible with the M1 line? We know they will have more capacity, but we expect improved energy densities so the hope is the M2 batteries will not be larger than the existing line.
  3. Can anyone confirm the diameter of the that downtube pipe? At least OD, but ID preferred. If that downtube is at least sewage line size (roughly 3"), then it would fit existing M1 batteries inside.
If the diameter is less than 3" or Avinox has increased the size their batteries, then the answer to question 1 is Custom.

Don’t think the battery will be custom.

i- scale of Atherton production wouldn’t warrant the investment.

ii - Atherton would be able to talk about it as it wouldn’t come under the Avinox embargo.

Everyone seems to be assuming the downtube is going to be round. This doesn’t have to be the case. They have their aluminium tubes custom drawn so it could be any profile, oval, truncated rectangle etc.
I realise the images released appear to have a round tube. It could be down to creative photography/lighting or it could also be a test mule which is using an external battery as was seen in an artist impression during the second video.

I guess we will have to wait and see.

Here's to hoping that they skip that large downtube pipe for a soft rectangular form, like on this bike, not to mention CF tubing like the A-Series:
