120 Nm update for the Bosch CX and CX Race Announced

All installed with no issues here. I’m looking forward to trying it all out tomorrow morning.

Bosch’s commitment to rolling these updates out for existing bikes should be lauded by all of us who benefit. It would have been so easy for them to yield to pressure from bike manufacturers - who would doubtless prefer to have the new functionality creating pressure on people to buy new bikes.

Well done Bosch! Like this post if you agree…

I had a good shred yesterday and it was definitely doing the thing where it removes chain slack. Pretty cool. I can't get it to work on the stand and I'm not pedaling backwards or anything. It's tracking my speed or something.

I believe It uses sensors that keep it disabled while Descending.
I have the dtswiss DF and i don't notice any difference from pre update When descending.
Its working downhill. When you think about it, it will only work downhill and the flat as your pedalling uphill and its not relevant while pedalling.

Ill be honest i feel no difference between chain tensioner on or off other than hearing the chainring ratcheting foward while descending.

This chain tensioner feature, can it be switched off? Of I understand how it works, does it make ochains and dt swiss's new hub pointless as the chain will always be tensioned?
Not yet from what I can see. But it isn't active on lower modes. So to not have it active on the down change mode.

The constant ratcheting forward of the chaining is bothersome to me, I installed my O chain for this specific purpose of having some slack in the chain as a suspension moves through its travel, now the motor is taking up that slack mechanically.

I really like the CT function as it just seemed like I was always in the correct gear and ready to go. Actually, I love the response of the Bosch motor in general as it responds like a pedal bike, with strong torque when I apply the needed pressure coming out of nearly stopped uphill turns and what not.

Was there any cost? I'm pretty friendly with my LBS..

Also I wonder if this can be upgraded to Gen 4 CX, its exactly the same situation as Gen 5 so I don't see why not, but then again Bosch..

45kph would really help my work commute.

I paid the bike shop for their time. No sure exactly how much the upgrade labour cost in time as i got some wheels trued up and spokes replaced at the same time. But it was a bit of a fuck around for them as they had to go to crestline and ask permission.

Not sure about gen for for the 45kph. You'l have to ask the bike shop.

First ride in and its pretty silly. 45kph is fairly fast. I do have different modes set at different speeds.

took about 2minutes. Took longer to get the little flap open to plug it in.

Wow, still? mine came through a few days after my little whinge :)
I am not sure what triggered it - the cube end or the bosch.
I am shocked that you are still waiting, now the heat of the rollout is surely over.
Wish i could offer better help. Hope it comes through soon.
Still waiting 🤨 got smoked at an enduro by an amflow on the pedally bits which is annoying.

After doing some digging this looks like its Gen 5 CX only

Ah well, just confirms next bike will be Avinox

I emailed Bosch NZ on Wednesday wondering if I could get an update to 45km/h for my Trek Rail 9.8 2024 Gen4 , they came back with the below:

Bosch has supplied and supported 45kph drive units since 2020 for System 2 and the Smart System.

The Drive unit part number specification was a decision by the OEM.

For the BDU38 we have the ability to change the specification of the drive unit from 32 to 45, this has now been approved in NZ and can be done via a change request.

The BDU37 drive unit (Gen4) is still eligible for assistance of up to 600%

So from that information seems ok in NZ for Gen 5 software change but not for those with previous generation motors. I probably would have left it how it was anyway as I dont race anyone but I was interested to see if it "could" be applied to my Gen 4 Trek , I guess that is a decision that Trek made? Who knows. Maybe they have a lot of Gen 5s out there looking for a home still?

Yea, I can understand it from a selling more bikes point but all it does is turn people off Bosch. The gen4 is easily capable of 45kph but they only allow it on the latest Gen 5. Doesn't really worry me, as I wouldn't have considered a Gen 5 for my next bike.

My LBS just confirmed Gen 5 ONLY
