Hey team,

Thinking about getting the missis an e. She is short af, 5'1 in a tall day. So need light weight. But would like full power and it needs to be size small 430 reach or less.

Currently she rides my daughters 60nm Orbea Rise size small gen 1 when we go on e bike rides. My daughter has the alloy version with 580hw battery and its about 20kg. She complains its too heavy and doesnt turn very well and she's not confident on it and prefers her mtb.

Her mtb is a fully worked 27.5 intense tracer. With carbon everything, enve wheels that weights around 12.5 kg.

So she has a pretty damn high bar on what acceptable.

We tried a mullet 2024 giant intrigue in size xs and she found that bike a lot better fit and turn in was better for her.

But that bike was 21kg and only had a 400wh battery. Its low spec parts, its already out of date motor wise, too heavy with a battery too small.

What else is out there in teny tiny mullet full power bikes. That meet 20kg 600wh battery spec.

Hit me with ideas.

Think you'll have to buy a full power bike that has the step over she's happy with and a colour she likes then go on a weight weeny expedition. Probably most important is that when dropper is at lowest her feet are flat on the ground.

The wife loves her heckler sl in small, at 5'2", 110 pounds.
You can pick them up for cheap right now...

Battery life and climbing speed is comparable to me on a bosch 5 or avinox m2s with the 600wh, at tour/auto setting.

Build her a 19 kg Yeti Mte. Most petite women stick to easier trails and don't weigh much, so full power seems like all negative.

However, a used previous gen Amflow with a 600wh battery would be another candidate.

The new Avinox Orbea is rumoured to be quite light. Obviously even more so in smaller frame size and the smaller 600w battery.

As she’s so light, she doesn’t need the heavy parts typically used in ebikes. So start with a lighter base (eg the mentioned gen 1 Amflow PL w/ 600wh battery) and then switch parts, depending on budget: carbon wheels, tubeless (no heavy tires required but don’t go ultra light w/ tires), Trickstuff picola, carbon cranks, a light carbon bar, carbon (base) saddle … you’ll be able to get to or below 19 kg with a very powerful motor

She doesn't like full 29 of the ordea rise. So mullet it is. Not interested in the tq motor. Not powerful enough or reliable enough.

She's not as fit as me or as fast technically so more power than the rise would be good to bridge gap in speed and to clean steeper sections she currently stalls on. So I think as light as possible full power, would be better suited put needs.

Pivot Shuttle AMPd has an XS that would fit the bill.

I wonder if a 600wh could be retrofitted in. That would make it ideal. Don't want an 800wh up front thats too much front weight bias and she'll complain about turning effort.

17kg in size M
That's on point. I doubt i could import one into nz, then the question of back up support or lack there of in nz. So I think its too early for maxom motor in nz. That would be a hurt locker id something went wrong and an angry wife with a non working bike.

Im not prepared to withstand boutique unsupported bike wife rage.

I have to admit that most of the bikes with that motor are rather 'boutique' and being in NZ probably makes most other makes the same 😁

100%, at 5'2" a 29'r was a non starter for my wife. She hated her old alpine trail 7 29" bike. Complained of "beaver buzz" often  .
Also agree that the tq60 is significantly less power than even the fazua 60. Great for riding by oneself, or acoustics, but keeping up with even detuned full power would be tiring.
A wild or a dreadnought will be her next bike. Excellent dropper insertion on both of those.

FWIW My wife is 5.3 and has the intrigue x elite 1 in snall and she loves it. We ended up getting the range extender which adds to the weight/cost but i’d say it’s around the 20-21kg with 600wh. Evo were doing killer deals on these but i’m not sure if there is any smaller sizes still left in NZ.

Sounds like you need a big brand for service and support. As a result a lot of the lighter bikes (Raymon Tarok, Thomus, Megamo) won’t be a great fit. I think you can probably get close with a transition regulator cx. If you’re open to mullet probably a few more choices.

Have a good look at Santa Cruz Vala LIte. Full power but a shy under 20kgs - mullet and small is for 5’1” to 5’5” so would seem spot on. It’s an awesome bike and defo up to the top shelf standard your Mrs is used to 😀

You will be able to as I put a 600hr battery in Unno Mith and it’s 19.5kgs

Vala C or CC if you must (£££), very very capable and light handling bike. If it comes down to physical weight then lighter tyres. Surely a few 100g here and there will be ok, as a %age of overall weight it is a fraction.

I thought Amflow didn't make a size small? So she definitely needs to throw a leg over one.

Does she really need full power though? Depends on her weight. My wife is 105 lbs and a mid power Bosch SX is plenty of power to keep up with the guys on full power bikes who weigh more. She has a Pivot Shuttle SL/AM and a range extender for when she needs it for a long day.
