I haven’t seen much talk about this, but I installed a sim card today. I’m in the US so this doesn’t apply to other countries.

I bought the sim for $28 from EIOTCLUB, it’s 360 days and 360MB. I activated it on their website first.

The nano sim card only seems to latch into place one way, if in the wrong orientation it just gets spit out

In the Avinox app I had to turn on Bike Connectivity (SIM)

It didn’t connect automatically, so I looked up APN settings on the EIOTCLUB website and for my specific sim card it was “altanwifi”, at the bottom of the Bike Connectivity (SIM) screen in the app, you can Configure APN settings

After that the display showed a 4G signal, I assume it’s working now!

Do you have any idea if it’s a US based carrier? I got a Keepgo SIM card and although the bike detects a card, it will not connect to 4G. I think it’s bc it is a euro based carrier and needs to be able to use roaming data but there’s no setting in the Avinox to enable it.

The EIOT club website says it uses AT&T and T-mobile. I don’t know anything about the company, I just bought the first sim that popped up on google and it seems to be working fine. There may be better options but I didn’t shop around.

Maybe you need to manually enter APN in the Avinox app?

I did… there are settings in the keepgo account. Which sim did you select for eiot club? The tracker one?

FYI, my sims are running almost 150MB per month.

Very curious how the Avinox motor pairs with SRAM 7 speed derailleur/cassette!! Please keep us updated, especially with regards to any diminished climbing abilities on the steeps.
I will. But I did a ride today and I managed to do most of the climbs in the 4th lowest cog, (which would be the lowest gear on the 7 speed) or higher, meaning smaller cogs. Only on the really steep climbs did I go lower to the 2nd, (36t cog) or 3rd lowest cogs on my 11 speed cassette. I never even had to use my 42t low gear. The motor has so much torque, you don’t really need anything lower, mind you I’m using a 34t chainring now rather than the stock 36. And in the setup menu on the bike, it lists the chainring options as 34, 36 and 38. So I think the 7 speed when paired with a 34t chainring, could be used on everything except the super steep climbs. Actually I think a 10-36 10 speed cassette with a 34t chainring, (which is pretty much what I’m currently using since I’m not using the 42t cog) would be perfect for everything including the super steep climbs. Unfortunately I don’t think anyone currently makes that.

If you add the SIM card does it track battery usage per ride under the ride history details?

Can't believe this is not tracked, or the assist mode you rode in either?! Some data seems missing for range tuning, or I just missed it. Hoping this maybe a SIM thing.. 🤷‍♂️

What extra features are you unlocking with this SIM addon gents? Got me curious now!

Anyone figure out the correct torque spec for the Avinox battery mounted to frame?

Also it seems no Chris King headset availably? I’m finding the tolerances on the Cane Creek 40 don’t seem to be the best.

Anyone tested Industry Nine headsets?

No, but I put in a Cane Creek Hellbender 70 in mine and it’s nice. 👍🏼

I've got an unused Hellbender 70 I bought for another project a few months ago and never used, if anyone wants to buy it (in the USA) at a reasonable discount.

I was under the impression the 40 is pretty darn good already, can you feel any difference going to the 70 here?
The 40 is good, but it’s the entry level from Cane Creek. The 70 has better bearings and seals. The 110 is even better, but it isn’t made in a ZS56 upper, only the lower. My 40 headset had some play in it, even when it was fully tightened and I already had a brand new 70. But it turns out that most of my play was probably from my Rulezman stem bottoming out on my steerer tube. A slightly thicker spacer fixed that, but I didn’t realize that until after I already switched out the headset.

What are you guys feeling in a headset lol? As long as mine isn’t creaking idc who makes it.

Confirmation bias? Clout?

It is worth upgrading to something like the hellbenders. The bearings last longer if you ride in the wet, beyond that you got me. The 40 series is basically industry standard at this point.

My thought is I trust "T" knows how to spec a frame of this caliber, if he thought it needed more headset he would have done so at this point!

No issues with my 40 at all, not a single creak even yet.. and I kinda dig the cute lizard too, the little fella has grown on me!

Nah, it’s not confirmation bias or clout. The bearings will last longer if you ride in the wet, or if you regularly wash your bike. Luckily I really don’t ride in wet conditions too often and the only time I wash my bike is if it gets really muddy. But I already had the Hellbender headset and I had an issue that I thought was my 40 headset. So I changed it to a better one. Why wouldn’t I? When it comes to my bike, I buy the best that I can afford, not for clout or conformation bias, but because it’s better. Better performing or longer lasting or both. That’s like saying you bought a Crestline for clout rather than a Levo. A Levo is good, a Crestline is better. Who doesn’t want better?

Upgrading is definitely a massive part of the hobby, extract all the enjoyment you can however you can!

If or when my 40 bearings go out, this may be the time to move to those nifty Hellbender bearings in my mind.

I hear they pop right in, and you get to keep the lizard! ;)

Speaking of upgrades, how are you guys tracking battery usage per ride?!

Come on Avinox, my old Levo 3 tracked battery usage and assist mode % used per ride.

Oh yeah, it tracked jumps too even.. guess it was just ahead of its time?!

Super nice @ccornacc!!

Time pedals? Been running those forever myself!

Switched to the Xysto for Lindsey. Love the extra platform and width for ultimate stability and handling. And they seem to be the easiest to engage of any I have used (although they all work good all the "time").

And they match nicely too..!

40 steal vs Hellbender stainless steal. That's really the only difference.
Actually the Hellbender has an extra o-ring in the top cup and different seals as well as the stainless bearings vs regular steel in the 40. Can we move on from the headset now?
