We have been developing a control module for the Avinox and reaching our final trail testing stages.

This is a power loom swap system, NOT a plug in a 36v battery into the charge port!

Amflow have not responded to technical clarification as many manufacturers will state ‘voids warranty’ (although the OEM batteries seem to have issues without any 3rd party attached)

Offerings will be 252wh and 360wh.

No idea what the specialized kit is but ok. You’re doing a killer job selling me on this. I’ll take two.

They mean that they offer a range extender for the Specialized Levo Gen3, but unlike previous generations you had to swap the stock wiring harness out for the Trailwatts one.

It’s not ‘plug and play’ like a standard range extender, there’s a wiring swap to do.

Will the packs that you’ve sold previously for other bikes be compatible with the correct new loom?

Yeah it voids the warranty atm, even if it is a great work, something bad can happen and customer will get a brick.

Nice thoughts, bad idea to me, even past warranty honestly, there is no guarantee that it cannot hurt the motor as they did not disclose spec.

Trailwatts has been pretty trusty worthy in the past.

I know, I can see, still this is aftermarket item untrusty material by manufacturer. It means what it means.

A battery is not that complicated but it is easy to have something that could damage the whole system, not saying this will happen but for such expensive bike these day, personally I am off.

I’m interested still don’t understand why avinox is anti extender

Because they want to sell the new avinox system, that will be presented in March, with 1000 WH battery
To be fair, other than the Bosch powermore, manufacturers have failed to add range extenders to pre existing models

That could be the case, but seems a little short sighted if that is really their thought process. Avinox already offers lighter weight 600WH main batteries for people looking to keep the bike as light as possible, so they recognize there is variation in how many WH people need. It seems like for any given battery size bike there are users who may want to add more juice for their particular use cases.

To my mind, the range extender could be a way for them to make more money, not less, as it could be an "add-on" sale for both current users with either the 600 or 800 WH battery, or next-gen users with the 700WH or 1000WH battery. You might be a current user with the 600WH battery, who likes to keep the bike lighter for your weeknight rides, but wants to add the range extender for the big weekend epics. Even on the next-gen stuff, you might have the big daddy 1000WH battery, but if you weigh 100kg and want to do a big ride in the mountains with 6000ft+ of vert, you still might want additional capacity beyond what the new bikes will max out at. My point is, offering the extender could basically be an easy upsell for a significant number of users.

@TrailwattsUK Thanks for the update on your development process, and I will be keeping an eye out for further updates and end-user reports. The lack of a range extender is one thing that has made me hesitate about getting an Avinox-equipped bike, so if your setup proves to be a reliable option, it would make me more likely to buy into that ecosystem. Regarding the warranty aspect, I wouldn't hesitate to use one on a motor that was out of warranty. On an in-warranty motor, I'd still use one, IF the modifications could be reversed without leaving a trace in the event that I needed motor work to be done by a dealer. On that point, if I remember correctly, on your current kits that require a loom swap, one needs to modify the stock wiring harness by splicing in the new loom. I don't know how easy it is to acquire complete wiring harnesses or have compatible ones manufactured but, to keep things reversible for "in-warranty" motors, I'd prefer the option to buy a whole new dedicated wiring harness with your loom. That way, the stock one could be kept unaltered for refitment if needed.

Dear Amflow users, please find the following statement from Avinox
AVINOX hereby confirms that we have not released any battery extenders. The current hardware and firmware of Avinox do not support third‑party battery extenders. Use of unauthorized battery extenders may result in product malfunction and voiding the product warranty; in extreme cases such use can cause component damage or pose a fire hazard. Customers and partners who have a need for battery extender solutions are advised to follow AVINOX's official product announcements for future updates.

@John_likes_bikes

Right, straight answer mate: **No, you absolutely cannot use a range extender on Avinox bikes right now.**

@Amflow_Support just posted the official word from DJI - they don't support third-party extenders, the hardware and firmware won't play ball, and they'll void your warranty faster than you can say "fire hazard."

Now, @Straker and others have been chatting about TrailwattsUK potentially developing something for Avinox (they've done brilliant work on Levo extenders), but that's still in development. And even if they crack it, you're looking at warranty void territory - which on a motor as new as Avinox is a proper gamble.
**The reality:** DJI are being protective of their new system. Can't really blame them - it's cutting-edge tech and they don't want some dodgy aftermarket battery pack turning your Decoy into an expensive doorstop. Plus, word is the M2 motor coming in April might sort some of the efficiency issues that make people want extenders in the first place.
**Your options:**
1. Wait for the rumoured 1000Wh Avinox system (@oettam20 mentioned it's due in March)
2. Stick with what you've got - 800Wh should be plenty for most rides 3. Learn to love the charging breaks (I know, I know...)

Being in California, you've got epic terrain that could drain any battery. But honestly? The 800Wh in your Decoy should handle most days out there. Save your money for tyres - you'll need them in that rocky terrain more than extra juice.

Dear Amflow builder, you are missing out on a bunch of sales by not making an extender.

We'll see if they "listen to customers" right? The company has certainly shown that they can iterate quickly.

I wish we knew if they were bringing out an extender and it will be compatible with the M1 system as well. Just saw a nice DGI bike for sale that I would love, but I kind of want an option of an extender.

Same response that any manufacturer will give. Have you seen the state of multi layered lipo DJI drones being used in said conflict

along with the pilot id and location scandal. Think DJI have alot more to worry about than Trailwatts.

We will continue without approval as you have been offered insight and structural integrity and protection for the Avinox motor and battery yet went silent 🫡

Dear Avinox motor company: you are also missing sales because you don't offer a removable battery system for new bikes, something Specialized has understood for several gen's of Levos (lots of other brands offer too). While probably isn't for everyone, there are a lot of riders that own 2 batteries because the terrain they ride runs batteries dry too fast. Range extenders and/or removal batteries are prerequisites for some riders. A motor capable of so much power/torque that can be drained by a decent rider in a matter of 2 hours doing continual self-shuttle runs should have the option to pop in a fresh battery. All the tech in the world means little to me if my day is cut short or I need to take a 2 hr charge break.

My understanding is that Avinox, like Shimano, and unlike Bosch, do allow 3rd party batteries to be used on bikes with their motors, although I assume it requires some sort of preapproval. Not talking about range extenders, but simply a 3rd party main battery. The only bike brand that I am aware of going this route so far is Rotwild, who did it specifically so that they can have a quick swap battery that can be removed from the side of the downtube. And I agree with you fully that, while they may not be for everyone, having at least the option of either a quick swap main battery or a range extender should be the bare minimum that companies should be targeting.
