Forbidden Druid - Avinox Powered

I’ve had a few bb/motor strikes and chainring too. Anyone running a bash on the chainring?
I think everyone who owns one should flood the Forbidden inbox with requests for a redesigned motor cover than can protect the chainring. It's only a cm or so when I glanced at it in the shop. Crestline did it, so can they. And they should ship it for free to owners.

It's so wild that companies have sold 'Enduro' bikes with the Avinox motor with no consideration at all for chain ring protection. If is wasn't for E13's chainring protection product, Avinox bikes would not even be useable trail bikes where I live. So wild.

It definitely have felt it being lower than my last full 29er. I attribute it also to the mx . But adding 10psi noticeably improved things (33% sag). It’s not a “non issue” because I have to think a bit more in certain sections, but not something that I am hitting consistently

Picked up my gf's bike today, I will get proper photos this weekend during her first ride on it.

Edit: I noticed the LitE seems to have a knock block? where as my CorE doesn't... am I mistaken? (I will investigate tomorrow when i have daylight, might just be tight cables)

Fresh CorE 3 sitting in the garage - what kind of suspension settings has everyone been using as a baseline? Specifically for the Zeb / Vivid combo. Last few bikes all had Fox sussy which I'm very dialed in with - just looking to speed up the initial setup. TIA - Cheers!

I used RockShox TrailHead to setup both. It seems rear suspension setup worked somewhat well but suggested setting for the front seems to be harsh.

What's your sag. 28 or 29% seems to be the sweet spot for me and that helps keep it higher in its travel. It's definately a low bike though

Noticeable difference?
Dunno, not ridden it yet but the shop did it because they have had some issues with Select+ Zebs in the past so just swapped them out to save any issues down the line

It'll be the first time I have RS stuff on my bike. My others have been on 38s/X2/EXT so don't really have a benchmark

My understanding is the Select+ is an OE only fork with the only real difference with the Ultimate is there are no Buttercups (and per their site the + is actually lighter becasue of this...). And Ultimate is Red which is proven to be faster

Is it not just a buttercup addition ?
It's the same 3.1 damper.

Buttercups & the Ultimate also have additional bushings in the lowers.

The latter, speaking to suspension tuners, is not seen as a positive, as it relies on very high levels of alignment, which isn’t often the case & doesn’t result in a great feeling fork.

A lot of tuners will recommend the Select+ over the Ultimate, as it is a better performing fork.

Is anyone here actually a little bit on the heavier side weight wise? I just looked into the leverage curve of the core model which is similar to the druidv2 and dreadnoughtv2 but surprisingly does not get more progressive at the end of the travel. At least the only graph that I found on vitalmtb only shows 144mm of travel max and the line is pretty straight. Basically the whole line tends to be a little further up in the ratio aspect compared to the druidv2 which means, the air pressure is a bit higher on the core model if it had the same weight. Since it is heavier than the pedal bike, you need even more pressure..

I already had the issue on the pedal bike to go through travel really quickly. Made a lot of changes to pressure/tokens on the 2 shocks I tested so far, the only working solution was a cascade linkage to bring down the ratio a bit to run lower pressure in the shock with added 5mm of stroke on the shock for the progression to run into..

I am at around 95-97kg due to my height. Anyone comparable in here? Is the bottomout for you guys needed on the vivid to make the bike work at all? :D

I'm 90kg on a dreadnought v2.
I found the stock vivid air to kind of suck. It almost felt like they were trying to tune out the feeling of the high pivot, but also removed the positive characteristics in the process.
An ext storia was a massive upgrade, transformed the rear end.
I have overshot on things that I was quite sure were going to end me, and rode out just fine, bottom out control was excellent.

I was surprised to see, that the curve on the dreadnoughtv2 is even higher, although is has more stroke and travel to run into compared to the druidv2... Did you have a special tune on the ext for the dread then? On my Druidv2 the original SuperDeluxe basically had the same "issues" with blowing through travel as the Intend Hover I have in it now.. The feeling in the travel is good on both though.. Maybe it just uses the travel pretty well..
I will try the Vivid, but have an Intend here to test as well with a tune for the core model..

Yeah, ext tuned for my weight and the d2's kinematics.
The stock tune on the druid core makes a bit more sense than the one that is on the d2's stock vivid.

Would love to try the Intend. Maxima not so much.. Intend is to expensive for not having a brakepoint adjustment. At least for me with bigger hands. Waiting for a while for the shipment of hope gr4s... :)

To be fair, both brakes only have reach adjust. It is tool free on the maximas but you need a 2.5mm to adjust reach on the trinity. I’ve never really liked the feel of hope brakes. I may try radic kaha next, I felt the set on ollie lowthorpe’s bike and they’re very interesting, definitely the most sensitive brake I’ve ever felt, no dead stroke at all and massive power with little pull

the bite point is at the technically shortest throw possible, why would you want to adjust that? do you like a longer lever throw?

Yeah, I actually do like a little bit of dead stroke.. I would probably adjust to the Intends, but I just don't know why I would want to pay double of the Hope for less adjust-ability.. Don't get me wrong, I love Intend stuff (got a fork and 2 shocks) but I had 3 Tech4 brakes on bikes that worked flawlessly, no real reason to try new stuff right now :)

The dead stroke has been significantly reduced on the GR4 but I'm pretty sure you'll still like them. I do miss the longer lever from the v4 though.

Now this just feels silly, trying to figure out which I like more haha

How do you like Maxima so far?

I am trying Maxima. I've been a Shimano XT fan before.

After trying Maxima a while, I don't think I like Maxima as much as I hoped for because the bite point becomes shorter as I ride rather than giving me consistent bite point that is the same as how it was at the beginning of ride. Given both levers are doing similar, I am thinking that it is normal behavior of Maxima perhaps.

And also it is very powerful to the point that I ended up locking wheels more than I hoped for. While many people complains about Shimano XT to on/off, I've never had any problem to modulate brake before. I am hoping it is just adjustment that I have to make and it will be fine after a while.
