I reckon it's probable they gave Steve the bike. They did with Jeff Kendall-Weed and he has less then half the subs (though he deserves twice as much!). Then they paid for a trip to the Dolomites with said free bike. I'd say it'd be difficult for him to say for example "this thing's rattley AF and out of it's depth on this chunk" on the video, even if he did think it.

Hey, it's a great bike obviously. And likely all the positives are true. But it's an Ad.

If you change the materials and design - then it's not the same motor anymore.

But, you're saying it's simply NOT possible to make a quiet motor that's reliable? Really? I had zero issues with all the motors I mentioned. Must have been a real fluke.

Of course it's possible. But it would come at a complexity, weight and size expense. There's no free lunch mate. ;)

You’d probably put up with a lot if it was free or a long term loan bike? Steve is the very definition of a YouTube influencer, not knocking it as it’s how he earns his living, but…

I don’t think I’ve known so many ‘owners’ of a bike be so pushy or so defensive about something that’s apparently the ‘best in the world’.

It’s weird, last time I noticed it in forums was with Tesla, and I did own one of the latter up until a few months ago but even I was dogpiled occasionally for pointing out some things that could be better on my Model 3.

Funny old world sometimes on the internet.
 
EMBN is a business. Anything on it is bought & paid for. Whether they're reviewing the greatest or worst bike, the output is never impartial - the piper calls the tune. In short, Jonesy does what he's told for a living.

It goes both way - you also have critics ready to pour on every detail at the drop of the hat as if it's a gotcha that completely invalidates the product.

We had posters on this forum saying the bike is useless because of the tyres it comes with. Possibly the most easiest customisable and consumable element of any bike, next to grips. Let alone the endless chorus of "the geometry is outdated" despite being quite comparable to the lord and saviour of emtb, the Turbo Levo.

The Tesla comparison is probably quite spot on. You have early adopters of a product people are passionate about, with people being critical of said product in absolutely every way possible - some ways which are valid, in some ways that completely miss the point or are disingenuous.

I think if everyone just said "cool bike, nice" and left it at that we'd have a 5 page thread. Instead you've got people saying the whole bike is useless because of the tyres and that the geometry is from 10 years ago!

Most people aren’t trying to make straw man type arguments like that one though, to be fair.

It’s great that so many Amflow riders love their bikes, and it would be very strange if they didn’t having just spent thousands on one…

The hyperbole just needs to be dialled back a bit, and some of the genuine comment responded to rather than attacked, deflected or dismissed in a rather over the top way.
 
Anyway. Back on topic.

Steve gives a great review of the Enduro version of Amflow in the latest EMBN video. His comment about the mullet feeling better when descending is something I can confirm, having mulleted my own PL Carbon Pro.

I wouldn't really say EMTB give reviews, just showcase the goodpoints of bikes, same thing with the gen 4 levo and all of the 'oh you dont notice its weight' rhetoric

Yep, they live in constant terror of being cut off if they’re ‘too hard’ on a bike, it’s what did for a lot of the bike magazine industry here in the UK.

This is the topic, it’s like mountain biking didn’t exist before Amflow came along, mulleting a bike (or a motocrosser actually which is what I used to do in the late 80’s, albeit for different reasons) is well known for making a bike better at descending, it’s all about angles.

I doubt that's how it works. There will be account managers running the calender, production guys, scriptwriters, the whole nine yards working up a concept, format, locations, key marketing points long before everyone jumps on a plane & jets off to the alps for a video shoot. A cursory glance at Play sports network's jobs page gives a prety clear idea of just how corporate the whole thing is.

There's nothing inherently wrong with any of that, tame media has always been a symbiotic element of the marketing mix, it's the stuff making the world go round, as a consumer, you just have to be aware that you're being sold a product & the information is biased by definition. Plenty of little youtubers around spending their own money & offering unvarnished reviews are out there for the looking.

I was talking about the magazines getting a bike in for review where the same brand has paid for a double page spread advert.

As you say, the tensions between the advertising teams and testers/staff writers must at times be large...

When the ‘little guys’ on here link to videos from the same corporates you mention is when it gets confusing for some.
 
Emtb have previously said they don’t do bike reviews, they are presentations of new bikes.

Ordered a dtswiss 1900 27.5 and a 27.5 Shredda. So im about a week out on a mullet.

Was going to buy another cassette but holy batman, the 1295 is not cheap. I guess I wont complain about Shimanos shifting even though Sram is superior.

Hope the 1295 is good for more than 2000 miles

Same here. I was thinking about running a spare cassette. But due to cost, I'll just get one when the original wears out.

After seeing the cost, it has made me even more meticulous with my chain and cassette maintenance. :ROFLMAO:

That said. I will be running the GX, CS-XS-1275 cassette when the XO, CS-XS-1295 cassette wears out. I can get that cassette for about AUD$300. But that's still more than twice the price of the Shimano 11S Linkglide cassette I was running on my previous Shimano transmission EMTB.

I was about to ask amflow support about this - @Winford or any USA owner can you confirm which version of the app and bike software you are using where this option is available?

Is the bike in the USA? It’s a US only option as I understand it.

Otherwise, if you’re in the UK as per your profile, then you need to pair the bike with a VPN set to NZ if you want to have 28mph in some other way, like most Amflow owners it seems…

Was trying to avoid discussing that bit outside the dedicated thread. Just looking to confirm the option is still available to switch class in the US on the latest versions of the software :)

Ok, just got my bike, and I’m stripping it 100% down, and rebuilding it with much nicer parts.
Before I pull the rear brake hose out, does anyone know if it is true tube in tube, os should I use a preventative extraction method?
(sram hose coupler).
TIA, buildup report incoming!
 
I had to drop the motor to change the rear brake hose, it was cable tied to the speed sensor and another cable just above the motor.

I used this video as a guide, with the motor off you can thread it through just make sure you loosen the 3 cable clamps on the top of the downtube
