I’m really not sweating any of this. I’ll leave the sweating for my rides and rock this bitch until it breaks or it’s time to up grade.

Does anybody know when will spare batteries be available? Don't tell me you don't do such rides for +2k meters (6,5k ft) with high assistance :LOL:

FWIW, I just took delivery from UPS. Test fitted the spider to get some leverage and it does not rotate backwards easily. It's like the second bike and honestly like my ep801. If yours rotates backwards easily I'd say there's something up with the motor for sure and the sounds you're hearing are the clutch engaging/disengaging from chain slap. I'll have time this evening to check if the class 3 speed limit is active.

I agree, I won’t own an emtb that drops assistance and adds resistance at 20mph! I actually prefer to occasionally hit 30-35mph, but 28mph is much better the 20mph. Pushing past the speed limit doesn’t feel as bad with the DJI…..maybe because I got a sloppy rattly one.

Spoke to James and his motor rattles but oddly he is easily able to select 28mph.

There must be multiple variants of these motors floating around.

Version 1: Silent motor, slightly higher pedaling resistance, max speed 20mph

Version 2: Rattling motor, lower pedalling resistance, allows option for 28mph

Do this test to determine which motor you have. Remove chain and turn the bike on and wiggle the pedal. Light thud our loud clank?
Mine is a light thud (version 1) and is similar in sound to my Bosch Gen 5 bike when descending and Mabe a hair quieter when climbing.

That’s interesting seeing differences in the motor. Not to blow a hole in your theory but mine doesn’t rattle, has resistance and has the 28mph option.

Perhaps software release is regional? I didn’t get my Bosch 100Nm update until 7-8 days after launch and checked every day.

My USA RS181 has 28mph.
But won’t let me adjust the max power to 1000, not that I feel I need it.

It unscrews. Righty tighty, lefty loosie. No special tools needed.
Undo it and slap it in the next shock. Its a good easy to remove and install bearing assembly for 30x8 shock mounts.

All my Granite steerer tube tools have the Torx bit, so no extra to carry for me. Mind you, that means I don’t have a top cap bolt anyway! 😂
 
I’ll be honest my butthole puckered a bit when my battery went to 8% knowing I still had a couple hill climbs until I got to flat ground to get back to my truck. And let me tell you Eco mode makes you work for it! But definitely reduces battery consumption a lot. I certainly would not buy a full power emtb to utilize Eco mode, it’s basically like riding a really heavy mtb with some drivetrain resistance!….you’re much better off just riding an mtb, but Eco got me home!
This ride was in Auto mode 90% of the time.

I really like the display options this thing has! 🤯 My entire ride I was thinking how nice it would be to have what gear I’m in as the largest number on the screen, as I don’t care much about the speed I’m traveling. But now with auto shift it would be nice to have what gear I’m in large on the screen, to easily glance and know…..done deal😄

I also wanted Auto mode next to Turbo mode so I don’t have to scroll through Eco and Trail mode to get to Turbo mode….done deal😄 You can also remove modes so you don’t have to scroll through them at all if you don’t use them. This is fantastic being able to make the display and functions how I want……other than not being able to set the clock to 12hr format 🤷🏻‍♂️

Now that I’ve moved on past my critical first ride impressions and finding any negatives, I’m now greatly enjoying the RS181, it is very capable with great traction which makes for such a great climber! Climbs better than my previous Crestline, I’m guessing this is due to the DJI torque, longer wheelbase, and better balance with the RH4/440CS and steeper seat tube.
She rocks 🤘🏻

The DJI software and interface really is light years ahead of bosch. Bosch is really simple which isn't a bad thing and may be preferred by some.

You can turn Eco Mode up a little bit, then it is good to use when trying to conserve without it being arduous. The benefit of the EMTB, is you can turn it up and out perform a MTB. But then turn it down to give the same pedalling resistance to a MTB.

There is nothing you can do power wise to the MTB, to make it a better climber. So the EMTB gives you that flexibility. So I cannot see myself ever jumping back on the MTB. It's just more a more enjoyable ride on EMTB, with the ability to make both the up and downhill fun. You just have more fun on every ride.

If you have a human like finger the DJI interface seems pretty straightforward to figure out, I dig it!

I’ll have to bump up the Eco mode a little because by the time I got to my truck I felt like I had completed an mtb ride.
This was also my first ride on an Emtb with a SwitchGrade. I have a SwitchGrade on my mtb but wasn’t able to utilize one on my previous Crestline due to the first gen AXS dropper battery placement. If you’re into climbing, I highly recommend a SwitchGrade. Maybe some day we will have wireless droppers with saddle tilt at the handlebar remote! 😍
