Finally got a resolution from the legal process in regards to my two twisted trance frames in as many rides.
Deemed to be crash damage.
Deemed to be used outside of what the bike is designed for
The bike shop didn't know I would be using the bike on grade 5 trails.
So
No warranty
No refund
And
Two bike shops I've spoken too so far won't sell me a frame because it's too likely to break again.
Giant NZ don't want to know.

Both bike shops suggested lying to my insurance company to get it covered, which is not an option. Ever.
Other than selling it as a damaged bike or trying to straighten the frame or find a second hand frame I can't think of what else to do.
Thoughts?

Well obviously that sucks, seems giant UK and NZ are getting fierce bad press lately, hoping Giant France are better when it's my turn eventually.

But I'm really curious, what kind of trails/jumps/drops are you hitting to break so many bikes (based on previous posts)? Is there always a crash involved?

Riding rough grade 5 trails.
Only ever had 1 frame fail from a fall, that was the first trance the second trance frame twisted from landing jumps.
all other frames ive broken have failed from fatigued Cracks, never from crashes, this giant frame is exceptional in that regard.

What particular trail? presuming around Wellington? Would be keen to have a look

I ride single blacks (grade 5) and the occasional double black (6) on my Rail at the chch adventure park. Never really paid attention to what grade the bike was built for :ROFLMAO:

I have / had 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 Reign and Trance Advanced Models, and the Maestro Rear suspension design is exactly the same on all of them. I'm doing a bearing service at least once a year and hence claim I do have a bit of experience how it works and things are held togehter. There is no rotation inside the lower shocks eyelet, nor does the axle turn. Its only the bearings.
But back to the topic: I can imagine the rocker fails if there is to often a harsh bootom out or the upper bearings are worn and hence the rocker has to take additional forces. On all of my five Giant E-MTBs that has been never an issue, nor did I face the filler crack problem on my 2022 Reign e+.
Need help!
I'm doing research on a well conditioned 2020 trance e+ 1 pro,the price is charming, but I'be been scared by all those frame and rocker problems throughout the thread. However, the problems occurred on 2022 reign e and trance e,which use a different design. It seems you are the most experienced one, thus I'd be glad to learn if any frustrated issues happened on my target.
Thanks a lot!

2020 models do have an old motor (PWX-2 / Snycdrive Pro) and a bit outdated geometry.
I have a Reign 2022 and a Trance X Advanced 2022 and happy with them. No frame issues like cracked painting.
The Trance is the better allrounder, but the Reign is smashing it at the downhills.

A bit of a long shot here being as this bike is now pretty much antique by E-MTB standards :D

I have the 2022 Reign E. Had it since the end of 2021 but due to an injury and a lot of Fox X2 warranty returns (I just bought another bike in the end) It did not get a lot of use in the early years. Since last year I started riding this bike a lot just because I really enjoy it. A couple of weeks ago I did notice this cracking on the frame. I approached the online seller where I bought the bike and they told me to go away.
I live in Switzerland and bought the bike in Austria which is not helpful. I tried to contact the Swiss importer for Giant and had no success.

Wondering if anyone has a better EU contact for Giant warranty. Even better if anyone based in Switzerland had this issue rectified with success.

At the end of the day im pretty confident that this is not a huge deal so I will just keep riding it - but lifetime frame warranty is lifetime frame warranty so if I can get a new frame or maybe a goodwill discount on the next gen they its worth a try.

Cheers

I can't help with the warranty side of things but I can say that the crack is most likely only cosmetic.
I had my frame replaced under warranty about a year ago (Reign E+1, 2022) and as I work in a Giant dealer I rebuilt the bike into the new frame myself. This gave me a good opportunity to inspect the inside of the frame where the crack is while the motor was out and there was nothing visible as far as I could see. I was honestly just going to keep riding my old frame but it needed the suspension bearings replacing in the old frame so my boss at work suggested warrantying the frame due to the crack to save having to replace them (the new frame comes with the rear triangle, so all new pivot bearings).
It's a shame that you're not getting help from your importers as I've found Giant UK to be excellent when it comes to warranty issues (not just with my bike bit with customers bikes as well). I'd email them again with photos of the crack, proof of purchase and your frame number and ask them to help as we've replaced a few frames through warranty in the shop that I work in. If you have a friendly local Giant dealer it'd be worth asking them to help as well as they should have an established relationship with your importers. Hth.

Hey Jurassic, Yea I saw your post. This was partly my motivation to try and swap the frame. I do get an occasional crack and creak which tells me the bearings may be on their way.

Either way im not super stressed about the cracking. In all the reports I read there is no word of major failure.

I will give the importer another try. I will be at the Verbier bike festival on Thursday. Giant wont be there but I think there used to be a dealer in the town so I will take a look and see if they are still there.

Thanks for the info.

The bearings themselves aren't very difficult to swap but as an interim measure on my old frame I popped off the rubber seals (using a craft knife blade) on all the bearings that were exposed and repacked them with fresh grease. This stopped the creaking noises that I'd been getting up to that point of and lasted until I got the new frame.

I had my Reign frame replaced just recently. I bought the bike from an internet store in Germany in 2023. I noticed the crack (in the usual place) since almost the bike was new. I kept riding because it was almost invisible and did not get any larger over the time. Then when the bike was almost 2 years old, I took it into a local shop to get the warranty process started. In a few weeks I got confirmation from the local Giant dealer that I would get a new frame for free. But, because I did not buy the bike from the local store, I have to pay the installation work partly, it was around 450Eur. Giant paid also part of the frame installation work, maybe around 200Eur.

Warranty process started in February and the new frame arrived at the local dealer in early June. So it took 4 months! The good thing was that I could keep riding while waiting for the new frame.

So in your case, as you bought the bike from Austria, you should be able to get the warranty process started there.

My old frame was white/grey and new is "Blue dragon fly". Looks really good at least for me.

I was out on my bike today. After my ride, I noticed a crack in the frame. That's how I discovered this forum. What do you think about the crack? Paint or frame?

looks like all the other bikes that the filler(bondo) is cracking. You could remove battery and have a look inside frame but I suspect this the same issue with the filler.

My 2022 Reign has 2500 miles on it and no cracking, I bought mine in May 2022, it seems like the ones in late 2021 and early 2022 had the filler cracking issue.
I believe Giant was replacing the frames with the issues under warranty as frame has lifetime warranty.

Yep, that's what mine looked like as well. Giant UK replaced my frame under warranty with no quibbles so hopefully you will be the same if you decide to go down that route.
As I mentioned above, I had a good look inside my old cracked frame when I swapped the parts over to the new frame and I couldn't see any sign of a crack inside.
An added bonus of getting a new frame is that it comes complete with all new rear end as well so you get new linkage and pivot bearings.
