The same thing happened to me. I was positive the squeak that I was hearing was coming from the bottom bracket but my LBS thought it was the headset. Then I learned here about the "motor compensator bolts". I adjusted them myself and that solved the problem.Tbh I asked the bike shop to check and review. Oddly when I spoke to them today they seem convinced it’s the headset…
Beginning to wonder if I should take it to a different trek dealer.
A year later, I was hearing a chirp. I suspected my rear shock. A different LBS rebuilt it but that didn't solve the problem. They didn't know what else it could be. A friend of mine said that I should try washing it. That solved the problem and it hasn't come back.
