Crestline x DJI - RS 181 SPECTRE Edition

I was glad to see that Troydon decided to angle the top tube downward a bit more than the previous frames, which also shrunk the top Cascade link as well. Lower stand over and a bit more wiggle room. 😄 (Thanks for the frame overlay MTB-MIKE.)
Increasing the steer tube length was smart as well.

The ugliest e bike in history i reckon.
Agreed, Unless you like the look of old man balls.
Although it does have a bit of aluminum wrapped underneath, for anyone concerned with a “plastic” motor guard.

Where's the BB height listed for 160mm

They list only 1 BB height, one HT angle , etc… so my assumption is it’s the same Geo.

I think the flip chip simply limits the travel without having to change the stroke of the shock to keep all Geo the same.

351mm isn’t too bad. At 30% sag for the 160mm setting, BB drops 48mm so BB is 303mm.
With the 180mm setting, dynamic BB at sag is 297mm

All this said, not sure if the 160 setting assumes a 160 fork or a 180 fork….

Yeah, geometry numbers always vary in real life because at sag things start to change. I'll assume all listed geo numbers are based on 180mm front and rear. That would mean a 20mm lower fork would also drop the BB, probably the difference you noted in your math and increase HTA about 1 degree.

As I've said before, it's the least gender-ambiguous bike out there. Makes all the other bikes look neutered by comparison ;). My bike is sans the jock strap and has the grey race motor, reflecting the age of its owner :p. Interestingly, the bike doesn't seem as outrageous in person. I kid you not, when I rode to the Sea Otter Unno Mith both (arguably to most attractive EMTB out there to date) on my Sonni, folks were fondly crowding around my bike.

🤣 I knew I’d get a reply out of you with my comment! Thank you for funny reply.
I do love the look of machined aluminum. I’ve never thrown my leg over a Voima or Sonni, but would like to. Maybe if we meet up some day. I just wish we were a bit closer in height/frame size.

It’s got to be intentional. If your Bike is a Pole, of course you’re gonna design it with a nutsack

That will definitely happen. You have too many cool bikes now - an apex belt drive bike and apex long-travel DGI.

I have reached out to GROUND KEEPER CUSTOM (groundkeepercustom.com) about getting color match ZEB Ultimate decals for the RS181 in Spectre Gloss Slate Gray. This is the company that Troydon used to have color matched suspension decals produced for his previous bikes. They sent me a reply email stating they would get back to me about my request.
It might make the process go faster if more people were interested in the same color match…..whether it be for RockShox, Fox,….

Aliexpress has various colored zeb decals for like $5..

190 ZEB Ultimate 3.1 being taken off my current Crestline and 181 outback
I rolled with 190 zeb on the voima. And it was certainly buttery plush on the big chunk. But I found it a bit too much travel on the standard trail and jumps.

The 180/180 combo still handles the jandle in the chunk but feels less wallowy on easier trails and jumps.

They would be my choice after great past experience. I like they call out the colors by the name of where they're drawn from and prices look lower.

$5 I would think would be low quality but I’ll check it out. Thanks.
The Copper decals on my ZEB from Crestline appear to be very high quality. I’ll be ride wrapping over the forks as I always do, once decals are applied.

They simply build what they can pre-sale 100%. No waste, no discounts, pure exclusivity, high resale, etc.

They are doing another batch 3-4th quarter and they should be easier to get then.
nope, proto molds:

time to invest in some proper steel ones and join the big league

As long as the quality is there and the investment cost is much lower, then I like the Proto molds because it doesn't keep them locked into any one design for too long.

Also, the hand laid up nature of the protos, might mean better frames.

I’ve got a Secus, TruTune(yes, bizarrely it works as they say), and the 3.1 tuned for my weight and plushness I want. (Super plush) All the mods make the 190 ride more like a 180 travel(more sag). On bigger hits I have about 10mm stroke left, and I’d like to work myself up to bigger jumps. I like how the 190 really has the ability to soak up a shit landing or drop.
My MTB and eMtb are both set up with identical ZEBs, tuning being a bit different for bike weight difference. And now they’ll both be set up with rear trunnion Telum’s. Can’t wait 😬 the next month and a half are going to go way to slow!

You're point is so definitive... case closed! /s Also, who cares how they want to run thier business if it's different than you think it should be... your experience running a business is to what extent?. Better then paying out for the "big league" stuff and being stuck with a bunch of stock limiting the businesses ability to pivot.

Fair enough. My 180 zeb on the crestline matches the 180 zeb on my Claymore and if i want to go full mania on new drops and jumps i roll the DH bike out for 200mm to dial the features in before lining them up on the e and mtb,

Yeah, waiting for the new fruit is painful....

I think you guys are getting a bit confused between prototypes moulds and low volume production moulds.

A mould that will last 200 frames is simply made out of different materials at a lower cost than one that will have to punch out 2000 or 10000 frames. The 10000 frame mould is likely made out of D2 tool steel and then head treated and would last a LOOONG time. A 200 frame mould is probably made out of alloy and will cost a lot less but will wear out sooner. A perfectly acceptable material to use for low volume production.
