2024 Strive:ON

Is it worth upgrading to the new GX AXS transmission from the XT? I'm thinking mainly to save me mullering things when shifting and enabling me to shift under load.

And is it best to get the groupset with or without the GX cranks? (Is there any benefit vs the standard cranks?) I guess even without the cranks it still comes with the chain ring anyway?
From Shimano site (SHIMANO HYPERGLIDE+ | SHIMANO BIKE-US)

"No need to pull off the gas or time an easy pedal stroke with your shifts. Hammer away and count on HYPERGLIDE+ for flawless shifts so you can keep accelerating without hesitation"

I started doing as above, and to my suprise, it appears to shift better underload (up or down).

I'm a tad over 6'2 (~188 cm - 88cm inner leg). I've been riding my Large Calibre Bossnut Evo for 5 years and always found it a bit too small and wished I'd gone XL, though I sat on a large YT Decoy recently and that felt like a good size. I put my inner leg length and height into the Canyon website and it recommends a large, but thought it was worth checking the experience of you guys

Anyone my height got any opinions on whether to go L or XL?

While I'm here - can you remove the battery entirely for weight saving on an uplift day or does it contribute to the frames structure?

The Decoy are really small for it's size and the Strive:On are really big, a size L Strive:On have a 11mm longer reach than a XXL Decoy MX. So a large Strive:On will probably be big enough if you felt that a large Decoy was a good size.

Mine Underdog arrived! RIdes great.

That little bag is definitely useless - don't bother ordering IMO! A generic strap would work better, the little bag rubs anyway so you'll still need frame protection.

The DT H1900 wheels have the ratchet system already installed. I thought they came with pawls. Noticed when I removed the wheel protector disc thing.

Fox 38 Rhythm works really well.

What is the paint quality of the frame? Is it good?

There is also size chart in Canyon website where calculator recommendations are based. Hope that helps with deciding size.

What length tubeless valves are best for the DT Swiss HX1700 (mid spec green CFR)? 42mm or 60mm Peaty’s valves?

Does anyone know if there are any issues replacing the stem with an aftermarket one? The spacers look to be a different shape to the usual round ones you usually have between the headset and stem. Am waiting for my strive on to arrive but am wanting to upgrade the stem and bars quickly

Any ideas on this, and which of the options I'd need? I guess the Bosch ISIS? And are the cranks necessary? What about the chainring - does it need to be SRAM-specific or would the standard chainring work with this transmission? It seems there are a few tooth variations as well... too many options!

There are some, since the spacers do have small plastic pins on top of them (and small holes at the bottom) so they can perfectly align.
With that said, I did replace the stem on mine, you just need to sand the top spacer (the one jthat will be just under your stem) to make sure to remove those pins and make it level ;)

Cheers for the info, so I take it the pins on the top spacer fit into the stem that comes with the strive on, but won’t on an aftermarket one ?

I ordered my Large Strive:ON last Sunday. I also have a delivery day for me in the UK of Thursday too
That would make sense I suppose, they will do regular shipments to the uk every few days and just bulk the orders onto the next shipment rather than doing each individually

That's right ... initially didn't noticed when putting the stem on at first, but then it got pretty wobbly up there and noticed that those created an extra space where the stem couldn't rest on the top spacer due to those ...
They're just plastic tho, so pretty easy to sand to get back to level (I did order extra spacers tho so that I can still put back the original stem if need be)

Cheers for the confirmation, was planning on doing the same and ordering a spare set. Does it look ok with a 3rd party stem and those spacers on or do they stick out a bit, etc ? If you could put a photo of yours on so I can see how it looks I would appreciate it 👍

sure, here's a few pictures from different angles ... you can notice that it's not perfectly aligned to the spacers as the canyon stem would be, yet it doesn't break the aesthetics or aerodynamism of it either ;)

one more thing, the standard stem cap from Canyon will likely not work with/fit your new stem (and my stem came without a cap). In my case I replaced the cap with my bike computer mount but you may have to get a stem cap separately as well ;)

If you have bought the Strive :ON a month ago, ask for the 5% discount Canyon is now making within the model range.

It's only for those that bought a month ago (unfortunately!)

Cheers!

Spot on many thanks. I have ordered the Ltd version as well…how is it !?
Absolutely love it, can't go past it without looking back every time (had it for 4 month now) and wanting to take it to the trails right away !
Did end up installing a Megabobra on it for commuting to the trails tho as those Pirelli Scorpion tyres that come with it got some really heavy drag on road (but really are lovely on trails ;) ), making it it pretty hard to pedal past the engine cut-off.

What’s a megabobra ? Is this a tuning device ? Was looking into chipping it but seemed to say they were not available yet for the valve sensor type smart system.

Where did you pass the cable for the disc magnet? I also have a Megabobra but not yet instal

Megabobra (from this very forum) is a device created by @megabobra (plans and code are available so you can do it yourself)

@Mars2 my first implementation is a bit ghetto but works well (pic attached) ... planning to try and put in inside the chainstay tube at some point since there's a hole in the back of the rear triangle to route it to the motor (possibly moving it to the right side and using a spoke magnet so I can use the empty hole on that side of the chainstay)
