As said already. Can crash your bike 5 mins from home or an hour. It's irrelevant to the health service where you crash, the burden is still the same.

There's no ideal solution for such a crappy situation. There's also no 'single' solution. The laws are passed because people have a habit of not being sensible, so the law supposedly forces them to be. Unfortunately, the same idiots who would behave irresponsibly also generally don't have much respect for the law, and the black and white nature of written law never covers all situations.
Laws (and religion) are there for those lacking a moral compass.
Do you sit at home getting yourself depressed doing nothing and become a different kind of casualty, or do you get out and do some careful exercise, feel better about life, keep the heart healthy and all the rest of it?
You catch this virus when it gets into your body, that's an unavoidable fact. So if everyone protected their own orifices adequately it would have gone away over a year ago.

I think a lot people are doing what they want. Some look for justification and some just get on with it.
The folks who think that you should stay within spitting distance of your house will never change the mind of the folks who think that driving from Dover to Glentress is OK because it's for exercise and vice versa.
Just do what you're going to do and don't advertise or virtue signal. That way we can all stay friends.

The fact that people are discussing it is good because it shows that they have concerns in the first place, and other people's ideas about safe riding might help someone else to get some safe riding done when they otherwise might not have, without having read others thoughts.
What's the e biking like in glentress? Out of new places to try ????

I'm on reduced hours and full pay, do I score more points for that, or less?
My point is that some folk seem to have the luxury of locking themselves up for covid, whilst others have had to put themselves and their families at risk cos the gov have decided they are critical to the economy and propping up the system that allows people to stay at home.
And maybe when they are then told that going more than 5 miles is too dangerous, they think it's nonsense.
Like I said, it's all about personal perception of risk and being sensible.

If you can't have a good time at Glentress on any bike you probably don't like biking.
There are litterally hundreds of trails in the surrounding hills. Ebikes run out of charge way before normal bikes do. So maybe take both.

I’m in construction ??Demolition to be specific.
Last time I checked we (like other industries) were deemed essential to the economy and required to stay open and working.

Construction is probably 'essential' because of the people of influence who are the shareholders, and who don't give a shit about the actual workers. Got to keep the flow of backhanders coming.
Jason Leitch made a point during the last Scottish lockdown, you are allowed out to exercise, not for recreation or to do your hobby. Just because the riding from your door is boring doesn’t mean it’s not exercise. So if you can ride from your door you should.

FWIW I don't do any exercise for the sole purpose of "exercising" either.

Agree. It’s down to the style of riding people are choosing. XC rides, quietly going about your business, or are you throwing yourself off jumps, off piste roots galore - if so you’re being selfish and letting your ego rule your head and could end up putting pressure on the hospitals.
