Firstly i am in agreement with you that the bikes are expensive for what they are, my point is who cares? I don't care if you could buy 10 cars for the price of an s-works, or a whole terrace of houses in Wales.

I am interested in if its a good bike or not, it may be good value or bad value depending on each consumers point of view. A lot of the Specialized owners on her have bought them because they place a high value on the customer service they get from their local shops, and also the brands excellent reputation for customer care, and to a lot of people having that security when buying an expensive e-mtb is worth paying more for as it has value to them.

Who says value is a quantum in every bike buyers thought process? If i wanted the best road bike, or the best mountain bike for the riding i want to do, i would get the right bike and it would cost what it costs. I have a client who has a 10K Pinarello Dogma he uses as an indoor training bike, and it has never seen daylight - the reason he has it is he wants to train on the same bike as his road bike, and the value of being able to do that was more important than the value of the purchase.

If i wanted the best value bike, then i would get the bike that has the best mix of bang for your buck and decent riding characteristics.

Value is an interesting concept with EBIKES anyway, as part of me thinks that you are to go in several thousand deep on the purchase of one, you may as-well spend a bit more to get the right one, than end up spending a bit less, but still a horrific amount of money to get something not quite right that you regret.

The last paragraph says to me, that the marketeers have won.

For a "several thousand" you should get the right spec and not feel like you need to "spend a bit more" get the top of the line version. The bikes are too expensive.

Just you and a minority of others that don’t. I’m not going to buy a loaf of bread for £10. These prices are very similar.

I don't care if you could buy 10 cars for the price of an s-works, or a whole terrace of houses in Wales.
This is a flippant point: it also is a huge insult to people who work for a lifetime to get just one house. All I need is somewhere of shelter to live, food and water in my belly, a mode of transport to navigate the world I live in and the information it holds, and clothes on my back. Everything else I see as an insult to those inalienable rights according to the Geneva convention.

I am interested in if its a good bike or not, it may be good value or bad value depending on each consumers point of view.
People should at least decide whether it’s a good bike or not by the spec, a review on a reliable website, and how it rides by testing it... agreed.

However, “Point of view” fallacy I particularly hate. The rights and empowerments of the individual are directly threatened, by decisions based on the thought construct of accepting all interpretations of what an individual can choose to be.

I would rather shackle myself to my ideals than accept another’s point of view.

At a basic level it makes no sense anyway: the agree to disagree, the “everything is an interpretation” lie.

The list goes on. There are definitive answers to everything out there. Yes’s and No’s.

I see this as asking for other companies to do the same: have a cookie cutter strategy, and STILL undercut the premium service Specialized gives. I expect it will come in time.

Who says value is a quantum in every bike buyers thought process?
Those that don’t care about value in their lives do not care at all about their lives and by conclusion, care not about others. Finance at its least worst is where value is.

If i wanted the best road bike, or the best mountain bike for the riding i want to do, i would get the right bike and it would cost what it costs.
Road bikes are a single functional device. It does it well, being a specialised product.

A mountain bike can be a multi functioning device (road and off-road).That immediately brings it into the realms of more purpose.

I have a lot of issues with the idea of a road bike, and the idea of the race to compete. Professionals become amateurs at pleasure: athletes that usually win, usually do so at the cost of everything else.

I have a client who has a 10K Pinarello Dogma he uses as an indoor training bike, and it has never seen daylight - the reason he has it is he wants to train on the same bike as his road bike, and the value of being able to do that was more important than the value of the purchase.
This idea of training proves my point: racing is a flawed concept in the world we should want to live in. The only race I believe in is the human race.

If i wanted the best value bike, then i would get the bike that has the best mix of bang for your buck and decent riding characteristics.

Some people are scraping the bottom of the barrel, so every advantage in the market needs to be exploited.

Fair enough. I havent ridden on them so dont know. My only concern is other brands that are charging over 5k for an ebike are spec'ing fox 36 elites at least. Some even fox36 forks so the level of spec is so different.
Yeah. plenty folk will buy bikes with a fork like the Fox 36 elite thinking they need the best performance but in reality many don't actually understand compression damping nevermind the difference between high and low speed and would probably be better off with the simplicity of a Rev.

Interesting that buyers are already replacing parts as soon as they arrive. Just shows that Specialized arent getting the spec right, otherwise why change it. I want one but am already wanting to change parts on it. Going to Berkshire Cycles tomorrow to see them in the flesh and size one up etc. I was hoping Chris one one I can buy but I doubt it. I dont want to wait until Dec either.

Thats because its rare to get a bike out the box that is exactly how you want it - i know a lot of us on here will be over the moon when companies bring out motor only frame-sets.

People always do that, or say they are going to. Most end up riding it as it comes and maybe changing parts down the line, maybe not. The fact is that almost all of the mtb bits on bikes these days are damn good, and most people can't tell the slight differences anyhow. Or set them up right.

Ross please stop with the generalizations and assumptions, its not nice nor accurate.
Ok, sure. I’m just scratching the surface of the level of heuristics it takes to stop people who act like you, to stop you thinking, communicating and doing the wrong things in life. It takes a lifetime of effort to change the world. Excuse me for using democratic values such as focusing on what the majority in this case do.

I’m sure if I knew everyone’s life story, like which I’m sure you will spout your own anecdote, it would do nothing as I have already iterated, because I’m already aware of people who act like you.

I bought the levo based on pure feeling I got from riding it,
You should go into advertising perfume. Everything requires calculation. The blank cheque approach to life has its limits. I see it as conning yourself.

I don't care what people think of the brand
At least subconsciously you do. Otherwise that “feeling” wouldn’t exist.
and honestly 98% of people in my circle don't even know what it is and many think its US $1500 bike. Still I don't care to correct their misconceptions because thats not why I bought one.
So you’re not transparent to serve people’s minds with the truth?

I drive V8 AMG and a gas guzzling Range Rover.
Congratulations on being directly responsible for harming and killing people with your pollution.

My wife wants only Toyota Prius to save the world and recycles like crazy.
Yeah ignoring her plight makes you a good husband. I’m not one for divorce, so I suggest you sort it out.

We agree to disagree on choices, and thats alright we are all individuals with free will.
Ah free will... that old chestnut. I prefer devotion, to choosing based on evil volition. I always seek the council of highest wisdom and logic when it comes to any decision.

Heuristics 101:

List of cognitive biases - Wikipedia

But you know what? Besides the enjoyment of biking, I ride to stay healthy. None of these seeming contradictions are daft to me. They are just choices. Would I buy the S-Works? No. I can afford one, but fact of the matter is I couldn't tell the difference with the expert because am only a novice to an intermediate rider. I am but one example. I can honestly tell you this because no one on this forum knows who I am, but hopefully you see where you are wrong.
“Contradictions are not wrong” Hmm... nice paradox. I’ll add that to the list of, “This sentence is false” crap.

If I’m ever wrong, it’s not from a lack of trying. I’m not going to spout to err is human, because it isn’t. Our virtues define us.

So is the S-Works all about status? I don't really know and don't care. I am sure it is for many and others its about having the best if they can tell. We ought to respect the buyer's choice regardless of their reasons. For me I could feel a difference between the aluminum base levo that I fell in love with and the expert, and its the only reason I went that route. I could also feel a difference between it and Haibike I tested. I liked its looks but it felt not as good. I also tested a Trek. The shop I bought it from helped me ultimately make the right choice and not once was status mentioned in that conversation. I would have bought that aluminum levo but they only had it in large and am a medium, so I started looking at alternatives and discovered the expert was better still. I am just one example out many I suspect.
One example out of 108,000,000,000 souls and counting. Many as in how many people own two possibly 6 figure cars.

Ross, correct me if i am wrong, but all of us on here own by normal standards stupidly expensive bikes, including yourself, and to most people spending 1k on a bike would be crazy.

This is a forum about EMTBS, which are inherently expensive.

Whilst i respect you options, and right to have them, and i don't think a forum about having fun on inevitable expensive bikes is the best place to go on diatribes about the wider world.

Don't take the value of the bikes people on here own as any correlation to ho much money they have, as to many of us its a passion where we have ploughed way to much money into bikes and kit because its what we love doing.

Hmm, I don’t think so... double standards by me? No. I think everyone should have an Ebike. If you had really read what I typed, you would have already realised I see the Ebike as an inalienable right.

including yourself, and to most people spending 1k on a bike would be crazy.
No dice. I’m just a pioneer as a consumer... I would like to give away everything I have and wash people’s feet on the London underground, but that would itself be careless. I have more to offer the world than that kind of simple and honest way to live.

This is a forum about EMTBS, which are inherently expensive.
They won’t be in the future, which is what I’m trying to fight about in attacking Specialized and its money blind consumers.

Wherever I lay my hat, that's my home... I always take my work with me wherever I go. Be it online or off.

Yeah that’s fine... I’m a passionate cyclist. But I still stand by my point that Specialized need to be taken down a peg or two... and especially “Chuck it in the back of my Range Rover” idiotics.

I bet this is the first thread you click onto when you log in to this forum. It's rather amusing and a bit wired admittedly but democratic all the same.
Some people don’t like it and think it’s expensive and not a good value
Some disagree

Can we talk about Trek pricing now?
Why the hell not?

The most expensive Powerfly is the LT 9.9 at £7250 and it has the following for that money;
  • OCLV Mountain Carbon Frame, ally stays, 150mm travel
  • Fox Factory 36 Float Fork, 160mm travel
  • RockShox Deluxe RT3 Rear Shock
  • SRAM XX1 Eagle 12 Speed Drivetrain
  • Shimano Deore XT Hydraulic Disc Brakes
  • Bontrager XR4 Team Issue 27.5 x 2.80˝ Tyres
  • Bosch Performance CX 500 Wh Downtube Electric Bike System
How's that?

You beat me to it.
I actually don't mind the bosch motor and its noise so the trek is one of my options, maybe something more in the 3/4k range though. I can't justify spending more than that on something Im gonna ride up and down a mountain. I like the fact Trek has good sizing options too.

Rubbish. It's a premium lifestyle item, just the Range Rovers you seem to despise.
Tarring me with the same brush?

I have a rather humble existence: my outgoings are bike stuff, water, heating, rent, electricity, health products and food. I don’t really have a premium lifestyle.

Adjective in this form of insult:

“Of exceptional quality or greater value than others of its kind; superior.”

Exceptional quality: Quality Ebikes, yes. Exceptional? Only because this inalienable right isn’t properly distributed.

Example: my brother is the closest to me to not have an Ebike. Therefore, I grant him his right to have one.

I see no others of its kind as an Ebike. An Ebike is not an acoustic bike. If I had the power, I would give an Ebike to everyone.

Again I further state again: an inalienable right that should be part of the Geneva Convention, along with Internet, Clothing, Food, Water, Power and Shelter.

I’m really not quite sure what your point is but I have had a couple of gin and tonics.
If you could make your point without doing loads of quotes it would make it a lot easier for the pissed and thick amongst us.
Are we allowed to buy an ebike but only if it cost less than a bog standard bike from Halfords?
