I don't think upgrading motors would alientate brands, just gives them more features to market. If they carry on using the same mounting points there's no real downside? I think changing the mounting points frequently gives more of a headache to manufactuers with 'old' frames etc

Do you have strong intel about this you can share? Any details about what kinding of transmission they are going with? This would be an incredibly good development. It would be a dream if at Sea Otter 2027 we get to test this setup. Gates is gonna be real happy.

I'm just tired that Bosch, Shimano, SRAM, Specialized (Brose) keep dragging their feet on this, and they've already filed patents, so there's not excuses anymore. And there's Intradrive, Owuru E2, and Niche, but not enough backing to get them out the door. Again, it will take DJI/Avinox disrupter to kick all their assess into gear.
