I personally do not find the downtube to be a design that was particularly thoughtful in regards to appearance. From a purely aesthetic standpoint, the Levo Gen 4 downtube feels visually dominant. It’s clearly doing a lot of structural and packaging work, but the proportions make it stand out more than I personally prefer.
Compared to bikes, for example, using Bosch Gen 5 systems with easily removable batteries, the Levo Gen 4 sits in a different visual category. The Bosch layouts allow for a slimmer downtube profile, which reads as lighter and more traditional to my eye.
The Levo Gen 4 has a very purposeful, engineered look, but the downtube size shifts the overall design language toward function-first. Other systems, like Bosch Gen 5 with removable batteries, strike a balance that feels more compact and visually restrained. This is entirely a personal taste thing, but I’m more drawn to e-MTBs where the downtube fades into the frame rather than becoming a focal point. For me, Bosch Gen 5 bikes and even more so, Amflow, achieve that more successfully.
