I've been riding these since getting back riding in November, partly as waterproof riding footwear (was wearing 510 but didn't rate their waterproof claims and a pain to get on) AND as they have a large access / opening thats helpfull for me as I wear an ankle brace and 510's waterproof 'boots' are a challenge to get into on a good day without the brace :unsure:

And it is best spent 20 quid (had fiver off for Lidl Plus membership) for a bike. Very stable with my Vitus eMTB which is probably around 25kgs (the workstand is rated up to 30kgs), has tool tray with built-in magnetic compartment and 3-year warranty. What's not to like (y)
 
bought a new C02 inflator , had the same for a number of years until I lost it a few weeks ago , excellent , no leaks and controllable and its shiny ally :)

Nothing for bike but got a paddle board for granddaughters birthday from Lildl yesterday last one £99 . Oh wait a minute , No nonsense degreaser from screwfix 5ltr for 12 .99 .
 
A Bell.
It’s just a bell. A few weeks ago I rode behind a herd of hiker on a fire road and heard some grumblings as I tried to pass. “Would be nice if you gave us some WARNING! “. I did…several times.
So I ordered and installed another bell for my bar.

Since I only ride trails with this bike, and I already have a jingle bell on the left side to warn bears, I thought “what the heck”.at least I could ding-ding my new bell when I reach a wall of hikers.

But it’s just a bell …OR IS IT?😉

I also decided to start carrying bear spray in certain areas.

I’ve never needed or used bear repellent before but this year there is a definite increase in activity. Especially on a few particular trails.
 
Have you tested the bear spray?
I'm thinking spray it at a wall and slowly approach the contact area, wafting your arms about as you approach.
I'm curious; is it an irritant, emetic, tear gas type, all of the afore-mentioned, or just a bad smell?

Good question. I haven’t needed to use it yet but I don’t think it will stop a raging bear. I’m tempted to try a little spray test but I might need all the contents someday.

I think the formula is some kind of eye/nose irritant …cayenne pepper 🌶️? Maybe I’ll try it out on some hikers first. 😉. I should read the label of contents. 👍🏻

I purchased this from Canadian Tire. In certain areas it is considered a weapon. (Shopping malls etc). But they needed photo ID, address, phone number and some other info before purchasing.

The label says capsaicin,, the red hot chili / cayenne pepper extract. Should burn like hell in nose and eyes and may lead to injuries. Don’t waste some for a test, there is not too much in it and you might regret it later.

 
How close would the bear need to be , has the spray a big throw. I would bottle it i think. Don't be nice with grumpy walkers there's no pleasing them. I may invent a walker spray and sell it on here. Cow 🐄 waste watered down would do the trick.

Yeah, I thought it would be something like that.
There are certainly more bears moving around this year. A lot a hikers/bikers are having more encounters.…nothing serious though.

A particular trail that I’m working on is an active route for bears. If you’re heads down while scratching out some dirt they can walk right up to you …Surprise!!

A Bare women was pestering me at the beach the other day. Sorry Stihldog I've just had a dram so not much sense today.
 
Have been to the great Tetons two weeks ago, and despite all the buzz about bears at the camping site I have seen none, only squirrels and rabbits aound. Even on a four hour, 3.000 ft altitude gain hike with my son, all we could see were a few tourists. I do carry pepper spray on my rides in Brazil,though, because dog attacks are common, and I can tell you, you do not want to test these products, even a small puff on open areas is very irritating to nose and throat.

derailer shat itself 😢
Shimano Xtr seems to have a CF derailer cage and I discovered the hard way!
Decision on repair (~£100?), replace whole derailer (~£150) or Buggerit option of going SRAM Transmission wireless🤷‍♂️

Or Shimano’s new Di2 electronic (and hope it works with the Norco’s Ep8 motor 🤔

Your mention of a paddleboard reminded me of the time 20ish years ago we were on holiday at Sandend campsite.
Good beach for bodyboarding, my daughters loved it. Most of the families on the site had been to the Spotty Bag Shop in Banff for wetsuits and boards. We were the same, 4 wetsuits for my girls, wife and myself and bodyboards for the girls was about £150. Bargain. Never been in a place that had so much stuff piled high for sale. Wish there was some place local here to rummage through.
 
Bought a Rapid Racer Proguard Mini front fender for the beast this week - just got delivered.
After the flimsy factory-installed fender flapped and folded and eventually ended with a split in it, I decided i wanted a bolt-on to help with reduced noise and a bit more coverage as we're getting to the wettest part of the year here

Sandend funnily enough I paddled from Cullen to there and back on Friday . Spotty bag shop haha yes cheap stuff in there right enough.

so had a tow bar fitted yesterday nice removable one completely hidden once removed
had to kill nearly 3 hrs in Durham ish while waiting in sheete weather

Been 9 days since my last ride longest Iv missed for ages. But oot today at thrunton should be interesting after yesterdays monsoon 😂😂
 
A Hans Dampf on the rear. I've had a run of problems with Maxxis tyres, the final straws were a DHR that sweated sealant all round the circumference as if it was made out of cheesecloth & a High Roller that lasted two rides before slashing irreparably. Trail casing but appears better made than the DHR & feels a little squirmy when pushed hard but no complaints on the grip levels - anyone who rides around here is a bit sensitive to grip as it's generally not on offer. Early days but I think I like it.

Few years ago had a removable tow bar fitted. Have never removed it so don't know why I bothered, should have had a fixed one instead. :rolleyes:
