A trusted friend is adamant that I need to move away from a 3L reservoir on my back so I’m going to give a waist pack a try. I’m sure I’ll like it better but we’ll see if I can get away with less water. Two bottles and 1.5L reservoir is 2.74L, adding a bottle on the bike is 3.36. Should be fine but the real test will be in the Summer when it’s 110°.

Edited capacity numbers above after realizing the internal bladder can accommodate 1.5L not 0.5L.

Whatever you do, drink enough water. (We all know this, but read on).

I went on an 18 mile x 3500 ft of ascending jaunt in the Peak District recently. It started off great, but about 2 hours in, slowly became a bit of a nightmare. Planned for 3 hours, allowed 4, took over 6! I was all over the place, stumbling, falling off, slow, knackered, confused, poor quality thinking. Once home, I discovered that I had drunk only 500ml of water in that time. That is not something I normally do of course, but once you get dehydrated, bad things start to happen and one of them is that you don't realise what is wrong with you!
 
Eldest son bought his first eMTB last week - immediately ordered tyres and bars.
OneUp Alloy 800mm bars and a pair of Eddy Current 27.5x2.8 monster truck tyres!
No doubt it will be a two man job to fit the new rubber.

So, we’ve been using 20mm axles on front wheels for a while and after building a few wheels and needing a few more (spares with mud tyres as example) started looking for components 🧐

Then found Mavic E-Deemax DH 30 29" 20 x 110mm front wheels on good discounts so ‘might’ have bought some 🤡

This week I bought a Kiox display for my Norco Sight VLT, but more importantly (frustratingly?) I MADE a 3d printed adaptor to allow it to sit securely in the frame.

Apparently the S4 size frame mold didn't include a proper ledge for the Kiox to sit on. Maybe that explains Norco's decision to go with the LED OEM display.

Gorilla grip double sided mounting tape on either side. Zip tie through those square holes expands it outward to keep it snugged in place.

Never tried Zefal before but giving it a go as I'm finding Muc off dry lube a bit feeble, short lasting & no one likes a squeaky chain. This stuff promises a high wax content so we'll see if it's any better.

I've had great results with Peaty's Dry Lube. It's all I use now, even in the wet (I prefer re-applying the dry lube more often to constantly cleaning a chain that's had wet lube lube on it with all the associated black gunk).
 
I just bought more chain lube so this would qualify even if it weren’t already being discussed.
I have become quite a fan of aMTBer lubricants. Got turned onto their stuff after The Loam Wolf gave them such high praise. The Owner even called me on a Sunday to discuss my experience after I submitted a question online. Customer service doesn’t get any better than that.
I have been using their Därkmätter for a while now, but after speaking with the Owner he suggested I could stagger it with Überclear if I wanted to. Super happy with how it rejects dust and keeps the drivetrain feeling buttery smooth.

I'm generally not a fan of rear mudguards, but after spending what felt like an eternity picking mud and pine needles out of pivots and linkages I've just ordered one from Sicomtb. I'll take it straight off again as soon as the trails dry up.

Now just away to order some OneUp carbon ebike bars, PNW Loam grips and a cheapo handheld jet blower thing for speed drying the bike.
 
Welp, I had to buy my Levo a new seat stay. Not really the thing I wanted to drop $500 on, but it is what it is. I already have a warrantied frame(seat tube tab cracked) back in 2023 and happened again. This time Specialized told me they would give me the frame at 50% off($1600) because of the damage to the stay. 🤔 I declined and bought the stay for $500. I just bought the new Crestline frame, so the 1600 wasnt really an option.

I broke the stay when I went otb on a rock roll. It was slow motion style, the front tire got hung up and auto ejected me out the front 😂. I landed on my feet, only to turn around, trying to catch the rear of my bike. It was straight up in the air, kind of stuck in time, not really moving. I put my arm out, but it was just out of my reach. As the bike began to fall over to the left, my brain screamed, “nooooooo”!!! I watched it smack another boulder and the sound it made was of cracking bones. I cried😂.

All of the bikes weight went straight thru the stay, into the boulder. It was such a solid hit! I always wrap my bikes with RideWrap and kept telling myself, “its just the wrap thats damaged, its fine”! It wasnt fine lol.

We were on a weekend destination ride and I still had another day. The next day we went to Jarrods Place in Georgia and I was sending 20-30ft jumps like my stay didnt just crack the previous day. It was stupid of me, I know.

Anyway, here it is in all its glory.

I must admit that I was skeptical about weather or not these were actually going to arrive as they were seriously reduced (hence buying 4🤭) but I shouldn’t have worried - also bought from a known supplier so that should have been enough of a guarantee!

Now to fit discs (have 180mm & 200nn Stam Hs2 in Stock (200mm on front of her Ksl but need 220mm for all the other bikes) will use lifeline’s gold anodised bolts (were £1 a box from sports direct) and tyres…
Think these wheels will be our wet weather sets so Maxis Shorty’s and Continental Hydrotal & Argotal.

Guess what I’m doing tonight 🫠

Just bought some elbow pads - haven't worn them in years, but have been having a few elbow issues and elbow sleeves seem to relieve the pain a little, so with that and seeing my son take all the skin off his elbows a couple of times recently, I decided to get some while they were 60% off at a local shop.
I got the RaceFace Indy elbow pads. I'm wearing them right now. They're great for typing.

Just put Maxxis Shortys on front (that I got for about 1/2 price in the summer when nobody wanted them). Definitely prefer them to the Magic Mary's we had on before - by comparison Shortys seem to have at least as much grip as the MMs but feel a bit more direct and less 'squidgy'.

Nice wheels btw (y)

in the stash we've had a pair of 27.5" & a pair of 29" shorty's for ~2 years, interestingly one of the 29" is trail whereas all others are dh casing:unsure:

again bought when cheap:p

we try to NOT pay full price & have been sucessfull in finding good discounts (Mavic wheels list @ £300 & reduced to £50o_O)

How hard are the Shorty's to install?
I managed to get my son's new Eddy Current front tyre on (Trail Casing) but couldn't even get close to getting the rear fitted - that one was a Gravity Casing and it would not budge!
Ended up taking it to the LBS to finish the job.
Once on, they're fantastic, but my God! What a mission!!

Have no problem fitting Maxxis tyres, just the usual struggle and cursing. By contrast Schwalbe tyres are absolute bastards to fit and take off. But to be fair might be to do with our wheels/rims.

Recently bought Crank Brothers Slider Tyre Lever Kit which helps - the "Sliders" work really well.
