Fuel EXe Trek Fuel EXe Megathread!

Hi all, newbie here, been running a 9.7 in NZ for a couple of months, loving it, took a while to get suspension dialed, but once sorted it rides great.
Have just had the display failure, getting sorted with warranty replacement, but along with this failure came a strange resistance when pushing the bike backwards, I thought this might be normal but hadn’t noticed before, but it’s quite a strong resistance. Popped into bike shop and pushed a floor model exe backwards and was little to no resistance.
Any one had this? Is it related to the display failure? I’m assuming this won’t miraculously fix when the new display arrives.
I did show to shop when getting display removed but they didn’t really think much of it, but I’m starting to get a bit worried about it.
Very late to this reply but I am also a newbie, also running a 9.7, also in NZ, and also have this resistance when pushing the bike backwards. I noticed it recently when cleaning the bike. So I tested resistance on some hire Exe's at the local bikepark. If I picked up the rear end of any hire bike and gave the rear wheel a flick backwards, the drivetrain, pedals + motor engaged and the rear wheel only spun about 2 revolutions before stopping. If I gave my own rear wheel a similar flick backwards, all I got was about 1/4 of a revolution before it stops. So I have , more or less, about 10x the resistance. This all appears to be coming from the motor.

Has anyone else had anything like this?
I worry that it might be related to a very wet ride a few months back. Has anyone else had problems after full immersion in water?
I'm considering trying to take the whole motor apart to see if there is anything that can be cleaned off.. does anyone have any hints?

Guys, I had a search through this long thread to see if anyone had asked this before but didn't see much.

Has anyone upgraded their EXE's display to one of the later full colour ones like used in the Trek fuel+ and by other manufacturers who are using TQ? If so, is it plug in and play or does it need the dealer software? Reason I ask is that the display on one of our bikes is starting to fail so it will soon need to be changed.

Hello,

I have a Fuel EXe 8 XT with the Fox 36 Rhythm fork, I've found a deal on 2022 Fox 36 Performance Elite 160mm fork with the Grip2 damper brand new from a store clearing inventory for 360 euros. I know this is a good deal but for a rider that isn't that advanced do you think I will notice the performance difference between the Grip and Grip2 dampers?

I had already bought the bleeder valves and a 160mm airshaft for about 150 euros for my 36 Rhythm fork but have not installed them yet before I found this deal on the performance elite fork so I think I can sell my fork for about 250 euros which give me a Grip2 damper for about 150 euros when shipping is included

Just put my "spare" TQ HPR 360Wh battery up for sale on classifieds if anyone is interested. Asking £295 posted to anywhere within the UK. Will not post out with the UK.

I was riding with my brother the other day. He has the EXE 9.8 with the e*thirteen running gear. He opened the app and it shows that his bike has just passed 5000 miles (8000km). There have been absolutely no motor or battery problems from new. He is on his second handlebar power button and second e*thirteen cassette. The bike still gets 40 miles per charge and that range has not really changed from new. The display is now occasionally a bit flakey due to rainwater ingress and he will likely need to change that, hence my question about a possible display upgrade above. The motor is still silent and gets the occasional grinding noise from the motor sprag gear but its not got worse. Like others here, he recently had to regrease and adjust the headset. He has also regreased and re-torqued the motor bolts a few times. He is a big advocate of the Pinner lower shock bolt, as there was some early wear in that area and fitting the Pinner bolt 3000 miles ago completely solved the problem. The bike has had no major upgrades but he did remove the stupid Bontrager rigid plastic rim tape and reverted to standard tubeless tape which has now made tyre changes a 3 minute breeze rather than a 40 minute swearathon.

Unsurprisingly he is absolutely delighted with the bike and is talking about running it for another couple of years to 10,000 miles just like he has done with all his previous analogue MTB's.

Riding is 70% offroad on rolling countryside in the South East of the UK with no rocks or serious downhill, but plenty of mud and gravel. He tells me that he avoids floodwater and bike pressure washers like the plague ;)(y)

Great to hear that your brother in laws 9.8 is still running well after all those miles.
The screen can be easily swapped or upgraded to the new colour display.
Interesting to hear about the Bontrager plastic rim tape. I swapped tires recently and found it really difficult to get the old tires off. Next time I remove tires I'll replace the rim tape too. Thanks for the tip 👍
