Almost 2 years of riding it, the CEF50 w/720Wh is the most ridden of my 3 e-mtbs. Why?
1) It's the biggest travel (I got 180/165 out of it).
2) It's almost 9 lbs lighter than my full powered M600-120Nm trail bike for better agility and lofting as well as lifting on the hitch (saves my lower back).
3) 75Nm is enough for me in most solo riding conditions and some group riding scenarios, if not hardcore peeps. (One caveat: Bafang needs to firmware update to add the original superboost 85Nm mode and stronger eco and walk modes.). I've never had a problem in turbo overheating, but I do use it sparingly for up to 5 minutes on a steep.
4) Best "bang for the buck". I get the performance of a customized high spec carbon frame that seems very durable, better than average customer support, and a build that's lighter for a cost of around $5.5K. I had transfered my higher end Onxy Onxy Carbon wheelset over but most was catching big sales with online retailers or getting new from the previous year model.
ZSSZ the manufacturer has been proactive in making modifications like offering UDH and going back to the traditional internal cable frame routing on the newer frames, which now have a nice integrated top tube display. Overall, the company seems more responsive than DengFu and LightCarbon (my other two emtb companies) which were already fairly responsive. (My Chinese carbon analog frame companies were sketchy at best).
A mention on Bafang motors. The drive units seem to be very durable, definitely powerful, reasonably smooth,. and cost much less in general. Customer service direct lacks because they want the customers to go the retailer which may be crap in support depending. I've heard SZZS does support the motor and battery well. All the Bafang motors are fairly straight forward to work on (DIY) and lube which is an advantage in the Emtb motor industry. I have the full power spectrum: the massive M620-160Nm, the M600-120Nm, and the lightweight m820-75Nm.
Overall, the little Bafang M820 puts out good torque, with no downhill rattle, but average motor whur in higher modes. The 720 Wh battery appears to be reliable and gets me a range of 25-30 miles using high power modes in rolling terrain with short bursts of techy climbing. I'm also an experienced but very heavy rider.
My wishlist. Bafang has gotten more innovative and I'm hoping that they will eventually develop a motor-gearbox unit ASAP! If so, I think SZZS could be a company capable of making another cost-savings, quality frame for it like the CEF50.
