SZZS specific CEF50-main thread (initial builds and troubleshooting related only)

I don’t live too far away so I may be able to take my bike there. I just have check my diary when I’ll be free to go.
The protection I received yesterday does not match the frame mounting points well - using it as a sample would be a bad idea. I think it would be better to provide an assembled bike;

I've assembled my red rocket!
The engine is running - the son drove a little in the yard. You can't go far yet - I bought a shock with the wrong fastening and now I'll wait for a new body from e-bay. This delays operation for 3 weeks((But I am pleased that the project is working.
The kit included 2 engine protection covers, printed on a 3D printer. The front fastening on one immediately broke, the second was able to be screwed on, but I feel that it will not last long. One of these days I’ll go to a local carbon fiber specialist and see if he can make such a part. I hope we can find a solution - the current defense is complete nonsense.
During the process of assembling the most complex element, the battery was lowered into the frame - as a result, we had to deal with the damper around the hydraulic lines - the 720wh battery clung to them. Out of fear that the battery will be difficult to remove in the future, I wrapped a rope around it))
There were no questions about the quality of painting. Everything is fine. I was surprised by the unprotected window for the cables above the engine - I glued a piece of rubber frame protection onto it and threaded the cables through the slot. I think this should better protect the engine from dirt.
Well, I made a mistake when ordering the lower cup of the suspension fork - ordering 1.8 instead of 1.5 inches. As a result, I put back the original cup that came with the frame. As a result, my configuration is the upper hope cup, the lower one is native Chinese.
p.s.:
I apologize for my English - google translator helped me))
pics of my build - rope around battery, window without protection, window over engine with dirt protection

Yes thats the output for light. I would tape or heatshrink it because that terminal is hot and light defaults on in my setup.
Go to AL sensitivity in Display information on the display. Put it to Off position, that will keep the light off when starting.

I have emailed RockGuardz and offered to take my bike to them.

Hmmm where to get this display for the M820? 👇 Saw it when Steve of EMBN did today's Bafang Factory vid feature.

I'm fine with the DPC 245, but yah know, I'm curious how it might fit on the CEF50.

Could SZZS enlarge the current cutout. Or perhaps we could DIY install it?

Thoughts?

Is it the Forestal Siryon display?

Update: it's not on the Bafang (HMI) website.

Has anyone installed this onto the CEF50?

I'm tempted, being as the price seems cheap enough

I like this display too. I will be happy to test it. If the gearshift buttons work via Bluetooth with this display, then it will be very interesting

You gotta inquire with Jean at SZZS to see if it's even available for the CEF50?

Although a wireless DPC246 would be cool....clean up the handlebars and cockpit a bit more.💸

Looks like it may be this Bafang DP C030
wireless remotes? if so, v. nice. But I doubt it.

Mine only came with the crown race for 1.8 supertapered steerer forks. No biggie. I've got the 1.5 crown race reducer.
My battery should arrive tomorrow, so I'll be able to test the bike over the weekend👍🏿
I need a 1.8” crown race for my Zeb fork, but can’t find stock anywhere….you don’t still have one do you?

Oh, I missed it on first search but yeah I think you have found it.👊

Wonder if it comes with the handlebar power mode selector too? Also, if Jean or Linda might research it (accurately😉) at SZZS?

Damn! If it is the one from the EMBN Bafang Factory vid then it looks like it's mainly for road bike use with no handlebar remote selector.

This is a dumb question, so "...I'm asking for a friend..." Bafang should be able to make a Bluetooth version of a DPC 245 remote power selector, right?

Obviously, the tech exists to configure wireless via Bluetooth. Meaning that as long as the remote has a battery to power it and matching circuit board (like my AXS remote thumb selector) this is not out of the Bafang engineering domain. They did it for the Forestal Siryon.

Anyway, I do prefer to have the DPC 245 screen mounted up higher by the stem for a better heads-up display and main vision rather than rely on the more peripheral vision needed for the much lower top tube integrated display (which is certainly more clean and sleek).

I guess the real issue, Bafang makes so much e-bikes stuff that the finer refinement innovative bells and whistles gets lost unless a premium brand collaboration like with Forestal means proprietary tech for their Siryon M820-60Nm motor.

I guess we should be happy that our Bafang M820-75Nm tune is more awesome!🤟 Also, that the wired DPC245 is far nicer and smaller than the old black-and-white and hard-to-see-in-direct-sunlight DPC242.😝

Anyway, Bafang test riders, push the Bafang engineering department to use a Bluetooth, wireless DPC245 remote selector to pair with the power display! Com'on Bafang! Be brave! Be innovative!

And that's my latest rant!😎

How difficult was it to remove the original cups? Were yours glued in?

It's hard to say it's not easy. Were you glued?
They were held on with Loctite I think. Just knocked them out by hitting them with a rubber mallet through a block of wood. The new cups were glued in with rgeen Loctite

Thanks for the update. There was some talk awhile ago they would be really glued in solid and possibly damage the head tube if removed. Thanks to your report I have placed a sizable order with ACROS.
Also, the Red Rocket looks awesome 😎.

Are you looking for this?
Hi Yozha,

Firstly thanks for taking the time to help out with my search for the crown race. I’m not sure if that was the actual part I need, I’ve managed to find one from Trek, but they don’t have any in stock.

This is the actual part I’m looking for, if anyone can help?

Awesome!🤟 Finally a viable, professional work-around...hopefully!🤞

Thank you so much for your willingness to travel for the team effort.🍻

Hopefully, there are nice trails to ride near their shop or along the way.
I have been in touch with Rockguardz & have given dates when I can take my bike to them, the guy seems to be away at the moment but has acknowledge my messages, so I am just waiting for a response about when they want my bike. It may be useful to find out how many people want a rock guard for their bike - I guess the price and shipping will be a deciding factor.

Oh great! Thanks again for being persistent. I suggested to Ian at Rockguardz that around $100 USD price point seems doable. Especially since that seemed to be around the price of range for others they've done and price list on their website.

A total of 5 of us have expressed interest. Some have multiple CEF50 builds. Others are likely to follow, but I just can' t imagine anything hand-made custom (in labor alone) would be less $100 USD. Then shipping adds on another $20-30 depending on where to ship it.

Anyway orders should range between 5 minimum to 10 maximum units to start.

Ultimately, we just need to know if they can actually make a working carbon outer guard and then take it from there?

Yep, lets see what develops.

I might be interested as well, lots will depend on price (with added custom fees etc)

Hello guys, i have a few questions.
  1. How do you put a chain guide on CEF50 ? can it be mounted directly on the motor ?
  2. Which light do you use ?
  3. Is the fork bearings that bad ?
  4. How do you know which firmware to install ?
Thanks for you replies, my CEF is on the way

1. There is no "canonical" way, there are some hacks documented in the forum
2. The engine provides 12V/0.5A via the light cable, so the choice is limited to lights < 6W. You can hack a circuit which will use the light cable to switch main battery output to the light via optocoupler, I documented one such device on a breadboard in the forum
3. The OEM ICR headset is crap, dunno what they pack if you order frame with side holes for cable routing, see the threads about headsets Non-ICR headset, internal frame cable guide conversion for the SZZS-specific CEF50 | ICR Headsets for the SZZS-specific CEF50 build
4. See Bafang M820 Firmware thread Generally use FW matching your engine's voltage.

Edit:
1. Honestly I believe there's no real reason to use chain guide. I haven't experienced a single chain drop in a regular use during my ~2500km of fairly aggressive riding. The narow-wide profile of included Scenix chainring + clutch on my M8100 derailleur retain chain very well.
2. I use Lezyne eBike Micro Drive 500 High Voltage (powered from main battery via aforementioned switching device)

It may not be possible. Carbon fiber is a mild conductor and the frame may act as a shield block the bluetooth signal.
