I bought a burley coho trailer and the double ended through axle needs to go all the way through. The UDH hanger is capped on the drive side so the trailer through axle can’t pass through. Any one found a solution for this?

my hack would be to drill out the cap on the drive side so the burley axle can go through.

Burley replied to an inquiry saying they do not currently have a solution for the UDH hanger. I made it work by drilling a 5/8 hole in the UDH nut to pass the throughaxle through.

I realize that this will make the axle nut difficult to take off. And probably unusable after the fact. But if I’m taking it off the hanger is probably bent anyway.

I’ve got the same issue! Do you have any way of taking the UDH off now if you’ve drilled through the cap?

Hi Jim, I haven't had to take the hanger off yet. You can see in the attached photo what I'll be dealing with tho vs what it used to look like. This can't be a field repair so i'll be screwed if it happens on the trail. But, I plan on using something like these screw extractors to reverse it out.

Here's a photo of what the udh looks like if you've not had one apart before.

Pardon the massive photos.

This screw extractor works if it's the normal "righty tighty". It's opposite thread then i'll just put an oversized lag bolt in there and screw it in clockwise. Regardless the idea is jam something in there that would get some kind of a bite turn it accordingly, likely ruining the internal thread.

hah, that is way better. looks like they created that to solve the problem for their own custom through alxe.

great find!

Thanks for finding that adapter and sharing the link. Just ordered one. Now I’ll be able to use my acoustic Stumpjumper with the same axle I’ve got for my Levo.

Brilliant! Just ordered one. I will get a rear rack on my bike if it kills me :)

Update!! The Tailfin adapter works perfectly with the Burley axles.
Big Thanks to the person that posted the link!!

Hey @all!
After 2 hours of desperate search im very happy to find people shareing the same issue as me!

Thank you for the pictures and link to the tailfin Adaptor, I guess ill order it too.
But I have a question maybe you can answer me JCGMTB:
Do you know how step the screw in the adaptor is? or doesnt it even matter? (1.0, 1.5 or 1.75)
And do you know if this adaptor is compatible with other hangers that are not original sram udh but from other bike manufactuers to mount a sram?
Thank you! :)
