Skipping chain, worn gear, which cassette?

Evening all. Quick cassette question - the chain is skipping around one of the middle gears of my E-160 S.

The stock cassette is a SRAM PG1210. These don’t seem to available except as part of a build, so what is the nearest (and most affordable) compatible replacement? 1230?

Thanks and I hope you’re all keeping well.

1230 seems to be the replacement, anything above that needs the XD driver. Should be about £80.

If it is skipping in only one gear i would still recommend using the rest of it until it is more worn. Might be good to use more range of the cassette. Out of curiosity what sort of range have you had? I have just under 1000 miles on my cassette and it turned out the skipping i was getting was actually from the rear mech not having the correction tension. It's still going strong but i've got all the parts ready to downgrade to the pg1230 as i can't justify spending £150+ a time on a cassette for no real benefit.

Hi there, sorry I was in a hurry when I first read your reply and didn’t really do it justice.

My bike was bought ex-demo with 185 miles on the motor. I think it’s about 6th/7th that seems to have had a tough time. I can ride around it, but it is quite irritating.

The PG1210 is a really cheap SX Eagle cassette - probably only about £50-£60...if I could buy one!

It’s Shimano freehub not XD so can replace with a Sunrace 11-50 cassette or PG1230 cassette or PG1210

Have you tried Amazon for a new cassette for your bike, I got a 12 speed nx eagle for just under £73, you might be able to get the 11 speed at a great price too ?

Just remember there are two 12 speed Sram cassette sizes- 11-50 and 11-52 which my 160s has so presuming we all have it, your derailleur has “520%” stamped on it, I only say as the 11-50 is more common

And what driver body you have, my 2020 150RS came with a PG1230 requiring a splined driver, the 520% cassettes are XD drive.

For Shimano freehub there are only 11-50t (SX and NX) and for XD driver 10-52t (from GX to XX1 range), there is no 11-52 cassette.
