Roval Wheel Swap

I am trying to swap wheels on my 2020 Levo Comp. I have a set of DT Swiss wheels with an XD driver that is very easy to remove. Can’t figure out how to remove the driver on the Roval Traverse 29 wheels that came on the levo. Any suggestions, also, I am assuming this type of swap will work and you can replace the drivers. I will appreciate comments if this is possible or not. Thank you. Dale

Figure is for disassembly reference only!

Just take off the the preload nut (#6) above the freehub (#3). This should just be snug (right hand thread) and pull the freehub straight up. If you want to go beyond that generally you will need special wrench (spanner) and socket to remove the drive ring nut and retainer. On compatibility I don't know!

Am I being wuss pulling off the free hub body? I got the preload nut off but the free hub itself does not feel like it just pulls up

My pawls shredded after 2.5 months on my 2019, got warrantied with same free hub by LBS but no confidence in their durability. Underdesigned for the levo. They need a much heavier duty ebike design. The dt swiss hubs with 24 teeth HX 1501 may be the ticket. Thanks for these details Squatch I will need to service my own hub in future.

These wheels are garbage. I have cushcore in and they are still dinged all over the place after a handful of rides. If I could just get the driver unstuck I would switch them out to a set of dt Swiss but that ain’t happening right now.

Not sure the Formula freehub will fit a DT-Swiss hub...what hub does your DT wheel have? Also, you could easily buy a Shimano freehub for the DT Swiss wheel...sell the Roval to cover the cost.

Superb wheelset
Fitted with fast lighter specialised xc tyres I have lost 1200g off my levo.

put the cassette back on and torque up. Leave the drive side adjuster/preload nut off. You now have greater leverage to be able to pull the cassette together with the freehub off. Once off apply some grease to the axle where the freehub bearings sit and also to the inner race of the bearings inside the freehub. Refit the cassette/freehub, and then remove the cassette. The freehub should now easily lift off.

Mine came apart as some else said the first time but now seems to be seized onto the axle as it sounds likes yours is. Good suggestion refitting the cassette to give some leverage - I might try that too!

How did you discover that the Specialized wheels use this hub? I asked before on the forum for a diagram of the rear hub but nobody knew.

So I was using the exploded view picture for disassembly only! I edited the post for clarity ;).
I know that they use Formula hubs, and took the part# FH-521 off the Freehub on my bike. All I could come up with was these as possible non verified kits.

If you still cannot pull the freehub with the cassette on your only other alternative is to remove the cassette and then remove the adjuster nut and locknut on the disc side and pull the freehub out complete with axle. Remove the palls from the freehub and then put the freehub on the jaws of an open vice so that the axle goes down through the vice and tap the axle out of the free hub. Obviously use a piece of timber or similar on the top of the vice jaws to protect the freehub and also tap the axle with a plastic headed mallet or similar. From the look of the photo there is planty of grit in there so I suspect the freehub bearings are stuck on the axle. Go gently and the axle should drift out without disturbing the bearings. If not replacing those bearings is no big deal...think they are 6902-2RS

Like you suggest changing to another wheel set... I did change my wheels out with DT Swiss Hybrid H1700. Something about a company that I can get parts for (with part#s) in two days.
My stock Rovals (which have never had an issue as of yet) are a backup set that I carry with me in my vehicle, if I travel out of town. I will probably buy an extra cassette and rotors as well. The nice thing is that some of my other bikes share these standard parts. Nothing worse than a vacation ruined looking for parts and pieces!:cautious:

tavandall, I've had the same freehub on my bike for about as long as you have and I am suspecting the pawls are shredding prematurely as well. Is what prompted you to take apart your freehub the sudden appearance of a loud, accented click/tick noise coming from the cassette area when coasting?

The freehub freewheel noise depends on the type and quantity of grease. Loud infers it is probably in need of a clean and re lube. 20 minute job.

update replaced with new pawls failed on thir ride. Hub body stripped. Third repair request a rebuild with a dts swiss 350 hub so far so good. Today my friends levo expert hub failed 1000 mile mark same as my experience so clearly a very poor design between the two of us and 5 levos 4 have had the failure. Otherwise love the bikes just the hubs are garbage

The pawls are an obvious wear item but cheap and simple to service and replace. I used £10 DT Swiss kit which consists the pawls spring and grease after 500 miles. If you wait for the pawls to wear clearly the hub is also then going to suffer damage. I have done close to 1000 miles now so will be replacing the pawls again soon. 20 minute job.

Sorry to raise an old thread, is the axle on these just pushed out? I can't seem to get mine out and am trying to replace wheel bearings as they are full of dirt and water.

Edit: Ignore, it was just seized up and needed extra hammer time:LOL:
