Pre-order starts next month - Next Crestline Avinox frame set

Damn fellers! Those seggsy 5dev cranks, and bronze Onyx hubs.. I am still drooling over here this morning!!

"Command attention with your wheel build" as a selling point, that is quite hilarious actually!!

I run the Onyx classics and love those things for pure silence, ultra buttery engagement, and max speed as they spin forever.

Was thinking about pedal kickback and if it may slow me down.. went out and compressed my rear suspension up and down on my old Levo and sure enough the pedals do scoot backwards with every compression. Gave it a hard smash to the ground and the cranks will spin a couple times around backwards even.

Guess I have been riding like this all along and it hasnt seemed to pose a notable issue.. 🤷‍♂️

But now that you're aware of it.... haha

Sorry, sorry, I couldn’t help myself. Happy April fools day 🤣.

Probably wont hear anything till the 9th for the Plaid Editions…

I did get the tracking info for my Nobl wheels though! Should have them Friday 😁
Color of the month from February. 😍
You got me. LoL. Also, the Evil email about the new Chamios Hagar got me for a second too.

I decided to go with NOBL's new Ethos wheel with the Erase hub. I've run Onyx hubs since 2016 on my main bike. I do love the silence (so long as the bike is not loud) but I have noticed on every bike that the instant engagement has resulted in a lot more derailleur snap which I can feel in the pedals. Feels like something is wrong and it's distracting when I can't tune it out. Hopefully the new hubs won't be too loud. They are low engagement... fingers crossed. If I can't stand them, I'll swap them for my Relay wheels which are NOBL 41s with Onyx hubs.

Somebody just needs to direct O-chains product development person to this thread to comment. It is the only known easily and cheaply retrofittable solution to kickback that is also adjustable. Just apparently UNavailable for this bike.

Now I am aware it has been going on all along for years under my nose, yet it's so subtle I would not have never known from ride feel alone so it does not seem to ruin the enjoyment one bit.

If Ochain comes out with an Avinox model I will give it a shot to see if I can feel the improvements, however I am not switching out my beloved Onyx hubs and pure blissful silence for something I didnt even know was happening until I read about it online.

Basically I am aware it is not really slowing me down. I do clip in, so maybe this helps a bit too.. keep in mind, I am a self proclaimed e-noob however!

Ya don't know what ya don't know. I get a strained achilles every summer at the bike park due to kickback. But it is not something you will understand is happening until it is pointed out.

There might be a reliability issue that they don't want to have to pay for.

Just curious, if this is causing you issues do you run any anti-kick solutions?

And if so, why are your achilles still strained every summer??

If not, why not?!

Just use the Rimpact Chain Damper

It's one, small stamped piece of metal to fit a current E to an Avinox. I'm holding out hope for SRAM'O-chain releasing one with all of the other new stuff in the coming days.

If your heel is stretched-dropped when landing, the kickback pushes hard and overstretches the achilles. I try not to allow my feet to drop down too much. It is usually just one foot. Never used a KB device.

For kickback, I will be using the DT Swiss ebike specific DF (60t)with a DEG 350 hub. It is less available than the regular non ebike version (90t), but i was able to order it from here.

The ebike version only has 0 and 10 degree options, while the regular also has 20 degrees. I tend to obliterate hubs, so I opted for the for more durable option.

The nice part about this option is if you want to try out rimpact/ochain , you can switch your DF to zero degrees and keep the hub.

Curious to know how much did it cost you with tariffs etc... Thanks!

Funny, AI sees 181.2 as no real improvement over my current ride.

Refining it is: Intend Flash 38, which will have a tough job matching the performance of Fox 38 + Smashpot and Avalanche.

I'll be canceling my preorder and making someone very happy.

Hold on there, are you kidding about cancelling your order due to 3 bullet points of advice the ai gave you?!!

Can't believe there are still full bikes available too in all sizes, guess at this level most folks want a frame only option.

Take note bike manufacturers!!

PS - I am coming from a Levo 3 too

@Greg Watts looks like you finagled someone out of their frame so you can scoop it right up!! (y)

Fanatik bikes still has a plaid edition RH3 frame

Same. Ive had mine for four years. Ive tried others, but the Levo always remains. Im thinking that new Pivot might be the proper replacement for the Levo.

My plan is to keep the Plaid as my park bike, but Im sure I’ll find my send riding over biked on my local trails. If Im being honest, anything more than a hardtail is over biked where I currently live 🤣

Yeah, I got a bit carried away at first but after actually thinking it through and putting everything on paper, the Crestline just doesn’t really win for me.

Only real advantage is the motor power, and honestly I don’t need that. I’m all about suspension feel (I want it super plush and compliant) and that’s where, for me, VPP just doesn’t beat a good Horst-link setup.

With my Levo already at 180/165 and custom tuned, I just don’t see the Crestline feeling any better where it actually matters to me.

Also rode a with the Pinion MGU yesterday, and that felt like a proper step forward. I’d rather wait for Gen 2 Pinion or other big brands to push MGU further, that’s the only thing right now that really feels like an upgrade over the archaic chain and derailleur setup.

Levo 3 is a future classic emtb, it was the undisputed king of it's time!!

Here is my girl, "Olive", while we wait for Thursday staring at the clock:

Beaded easily with just a regular floor pump. Filmore valves on the reserve wheels work great! Went with sidekick hubs. The contis have a reputation for being hard to mount, but I truly didnt think they were any worse than maxxis.

That's interesting that those rims are easy to fit a conti. They must have a generous and nice shaped rim well. My wr1 convergence are a real bitch 😅

The new Pivot looks awesome and is going to rip no doubt!

My hope is the Crestline can be the ultimate do it all one bike for me. Hearing about how lively and active the handling is while still enough travel to gobble up the rough stuff handily seems to be striking a balance that sits where most of my rides do.

Combined with that light weight and power I am thinking this thing should be awesome on the full blast descents, climbing techy challenges, even pedaling back up long steep trails with some speed, big ol jumps, all day epics, exploration, adventure, and - smiles!

Guess ultimately "overbiked" and too much weight and travel used to slow me down in the old pedal bike days, not so much anymore with that big fat "E" on my mtb!
