A trip up Centurion Way cycle path to see what's been done to the old disused railway station at Singleton - quite a lot it turns out. Last pic will explain why had a long walk home from doing some more interesting stuff on the way home.

Hanger was fine, f&£%ing mech just snapped. :(
I've had two Shimano mechs snap through the body. No measurable effect on the mech hanger! They don't make mechs like they used to do. These looked like they were some sort of thermo-setting plastic (A bit like the Bakelite that telephones used to be made from).

Had a look at all the mechs in the LBS floor (Deore/SLX/XT/XTR and Linkglide) and they all seem to be made of the same thermoplastic composite.

I've just done a Google AI search and it is likely that the bodies could have been made from carbon fibre reinforced plastic. The bodies that I broke were made from a finely-grained black substance. That is why I ventured a guess at Bakelite, because the fracture surface looked similar.

Whatever it is made of, it fùçking breaks before the so-called sacrificial hanger which I keep as a spare in the spares stash place.

Edit: LBS fitted my spare Deore mech this afternoon* - just bought 2 more Deore mechs for £28 each (delivered) to keep as spares.

* thanks chief tech at www.Ebike-Centre.co.uk Chichester, you're a fucking star**

** Edit: but have a bone to pick - when you jacked my bike up on your Park Tool PRS-30 with your power tool my jaw dropped, pure workshop porn. Then and there decided that I need one in the garage.

@irie “. . . Last pic will explain why had a long walk home . . . “

Would a compact chain tool like Spesh’s SWAT or Wolftooth’s have allowed you to convert to a singlespeed and pedal home?

Have a compact chain tool in my kit but decided that didn't want to hack the chain.

As to broken derailleurs, Branchy Protector might help. Discussed before here:
I have similar issues but went a different way to solve that issue...take a look at Branchy. I ran one on my XC bike and it worked like a charm - was one of the first things I stuck on the Crestline after I got it home as those new XO Transmissions are not cheap.

My lad East of Aberdeen on Siem Stingray lot of his kit on deck been damaged he said. Nit got the wind forecasted in our area thankfully. Maybe 50mph during night nearly woke me up.

I had this happened to me last year, it snapped on the same place, while commuting home, in a paved road...

It was a pretty new mech, Shimano refused the warranty replacement.

Will i have to sign for it or will they leave it in the shed haha. It isn't squeaky clean no more
Shame it's a lovely colour. You need to come North for the mud but it's free for as much as you want when you get here. Enjoy.

Great tour! BUT you all really entered this tunnel of pain!? 😱 And managed to get out with clothes still on?

That was nearly 1km of pain; the track was washed out with continuous football sized rocks as well as totally overgrown. In fact the whole descent to the N from the gap was painful with a rough rocky track all the way prior to this. Next time I'd climb up to the right onto Fan Y Big / Craig Cwm Oergwm and either take the ridge to the NNE to Cefn Cyff and down or follow the path along the ridges to the West eventually to Twyn Du and down to Aber - Strava heat trails show these as options.

Still fantastic weather for October. Same places that the trees come down with a bad storm. Just one small diversion across the golf course , why do golfers shout four ? is it the same as cricket. Few Black Sabbath albums for company today.

My local ride looks like that at various times of the year. When the bracken and the brambles are at peak, you really have to know the trail to ride with confidence.

This is a pic of my mate Tony on his first descent from the ridge line behind him. He (nor me) genuinely could not see the trail; instead, he was following the rapidly closing gap in the bracken made by me. I was stood where he was aiming for. I had had the benefit of having ridden this trail many times before it was overgrown. Top marks to Tony!

Ref @Just gan

Is it FOUR or FORE?

I am not a golfer, never have been, never will be. :ROFLMAO:
Only mildly interested in knowing.
I keep thinking about borrowing a club going to the local driving range with a driver and batter 40 balls . I played in the 90s not serious though. I usually had to come home as i had lost all my balls 😩 .
