Pic of the Day

Nice area I had a week in Avingon brilliant holiday
Main reason was to go there around Easter holidays in a group for windsurfing with 3,5 - 4,5sqm sails under Mistral winds. Than we discovered some potentially bikeable paths nearby and took the MTBs along for days when Mistral was off.

Errŕ..not sure about that ..but I can post some pics from todays ride..🤷🤔...
Which was with my old mate Jaco ..old as in the number of years we have ridden together ( in excess of 20) ..and old as in the senior in our riding group ( along with Colin Barking Mad ) ..at the ripe young age of 78 ..and still tearing up the trails.. inspirational !
A Bolts Law there & back and a Carriers Way loop out of Blanchland ..
There's no stopping the bloke as he is off to Arran next week with his roadie crew but I had to find some ear-plugs when he started banging on about his new road bike ..😎😂
Take a bow fella ..

Not a bear in sight ..

Having decided that his broken left wing ( rotator cuff) was too damaged to ride anything too " serious " ..and that he would do nothing more than a pootle up the coast from his door this weekend ..it came as a bit of a surprise when Wayne contacted me yesterday evening to see if I fancied a ride out of Rothbury ...
This was meant to be a gentle ride around the carriage drive and some double track in the Simonside Hills ..but it turned into an exploratory adventure with a fair amount of rough stuff...on tracks that neither of us had ever ridden and a " cave " to explore .
I guess you can't keep a good man down but I had to reign him
in a little bit towards the end..( didnt want his missus putting a contract out on me if he damaged himself again ) 😁.
Some pics of mainly the " new " bits we had never been on in the near three decades of riding in these hills ..mine first followed by Wayne's which have just dropped into my inbox while writing this....

Great ride with food for thought as to how to link the new stuff into our " normal " route ..
Hope the shoulder is bearing up OK Wayne ..and cheers for the pint in the Turks Head 👍🏻

👍 Do you have any info what these are? Entrance to mines?

I rode today but no pics. Could have taken a selfie after stopping on a small trail and falling to the right over a hidden tree into the brambles and nettles. Took me a while to get out and must have been looking like a beetle on the back.. 🙄

A great ride out my friend. The shoulder is fine if I don’t move it 😆 or try to open gates……It’s great to find new local stuff to ride after riding the Simonside Hills for 25+ years.
It’s got a week to recover and you’ll probably get an another call to ride.
Nice write up.

That picture has no doubt given a very false impression of what was noted on the map as a cave ..the reality is that the hole you can see is only about 6inches / 15cm in height and the " cave " was only deep & high enough for one person to stand inside ..the markings are the initials of people who have visited ..and in the case of G R ..as long ago as 1876 ..what the markings above the letters mean ..absolutely no idea ..🤔

Took my mate out for his first ride on eMTB (my old Cube) and he's a complete convert. Already planning several Lake District routes...and beyond.

Ennerdale from Anglers Crag - anyone who knows it will be thinking 'the path up is horrible and there's no path down the other side'. I can confirm that both of those are true !! Lots of pushing / walking and sliding down sheep tracks.
