Spent a few hours in the Wye Valley getting lost ( several times) looking for bridleways that had no signs ( thanks farmers) . Also , my Garmin shit the bed so I don’t have a clue where I went. But saw some things that I probably wouldn’t have seen otherwise

Ditch the stabilisers in favour of a jet pack for the short but steep hike-a-bike on the Capel Mounth ride 😁

You can spend a lot of time looking at real maps or phone ones if you don't know the area . In woodland tracks we are forever stopping checking confirming where we are. Our 3 hr rides in unknown areas normally take 6 hrs. But one of my favourite sayings is , the man who made time made plenty of it . .

Relived my past, about 50 years ago!

Do you see the climb behind my bike, well when I was a kid (9-10 year old), there used to be 5 of us on Raleigh Choppers. Not one of us could get up it, and more importantly not one of us could ride down it without falling off, great times. I also found this pic (not of me) online of a typical kid circa 1975 on a chopper complete with the haircut, bags (massively flared trousers that constantly caught in the chain) and the same colour bike (hot chilli red, I seem to recall). The climbs only about 20-25 ft and about 30 degrees but as a kid it felt like 50ft and 60 degrees. And if you never rode a Chopper, they're crap, especially down hill. despite-the-warm-nostalgia-raleigh-choppers-were-crap-and-v0-pchf9gc3r95a1.png

When I was about 12 Yr old ..my uncle took a school group ( he was their history teacher) on a cycling trip to the Isle of Man which I joined ..
One of the lads rode a chopper by the time he got back to Newcastle after a week of riding he was almost split in two ..poor bugger 🥴

The EMTB Forum annual OAP outing is up at Ballater for a few days. Yesterday was Comrie Croft (Crief) to split the journey but today was the start of the bigger rides. Heartbreak Ridge above Ballater where we missed @p3eps but met up with two others Steve and Colin. Thanks for the pointers guys.
