I rode the same bike on a School ( not mine) trip in 1969 which my uncle led ..(he was the history teacher at said school)..I'd be 12 years old and the youngest on the tour..I remember coming down Snaefell mountain ( Isle of Man) .. on tarmac (asphalt) with the speedo bouncing off the scales max'd 40mph ..mind you there was another lad riding a Raleigh Chopper and had an arse that finished at the back of his neck after the 10 day trip( that long thin saddle just about split him in half ) 😁
..so maybe I was an Mtb pioneer along with God knows how many others 🤔 😂

Just started big school so i'm guessing i must have been about 11 or 12 years old so 1980 or 1981

Used to trounce my mates on their BMX's on the road, but had a tendency to snap frames and buckle wheels :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Recon that qualifies as a MTB though right?

A mate had a Raleigh Bomber, recon that qualifies as a early MTB as well, again must have been early 80's

I never noticed it the golfers gloves , it was cold on coast but ok after I got in woods. Tried out my new Mt500 trousers a bit baggy but not a problem keep u warm as well as dry. Seamstress cut a few inches off bottom but still have a full zip so sorted.
 
On me tod today..so headed up the North Tyne Valley to Kielder again ..having heard that it was opened to great fanfare last Thursday ..I had hoped that the last section of the Skydive Trail ( Bewshaugh) was complete ..however having met Daniel who works for the contractor re-furbing / re-designing the trail at the bottom of what was Purdom Plunge he told me that while it was close to completion trees were still being harvested but it shouldn't be too far away ..
Had a canny chat with Daniel who has done a lot of work over on the western 7 Stanes ..Ae / Dalbeattie / Mabie & Kirroughtree..none of which I've visited on an ebike ( but all on a regular mtb) ..
Anyways ..today was just a play day sessioning certain sections more than once on the new Lonesome Pine Trail, Deadwater & a short section of The Osprey Trails ..
Nee idea as to altitude gain or mileage but felt like I'd had a good 'ol session with just one glob of power left .

A nice bit of playtime but looking forward to riding with me marra's again on Saturday at 7 Stanes Newcastleton re-scheduled after the grotty weather last weekend

Tuck my leg into my shorts? That’s kinda funny 😄. My left side is about 50% affected so it’s not too bad. When I get off the bike I sometimes feel the need to explain, to others, that I’m not “hammered “ at 9:00 am. Certain words are lost for a moment and my speech can sometimes sound slurred. (I don’t want to be known as “That Guy”)

For those that I see often , they understand, but I get the occasional “what’s the problem?” or “It’s only a double black diamond “ from others. Which is probably why I ride solo most of the time.

“Three Dog Climb”

We have a similar trail called “Three Dog Nite”. But that’s another story…even a book was written about the incident that she survived.

Just do your thing man. It is what it is, explain nothing. Those that have issues with it are the ones with the issues, not you. End of.
 
Ventured out today still very cold 🥶 I'm thinking 4c maybe 🤔. Exploring an old track I have not been for years. Pics show the clear bits but we'll overgrown with whins etc the other paths , not getting used I'm thinking. The actual path is ok just the growth . I won't be going back.

See the sun there as well I was wondering where it was when I went out. Not much shelter there . Area forecast for tomorrow in BCK.

My kite days are over. Great memories for the kids though. Stunt kites, buggies, trains and kite surfing. Trees and power lines are a problem now. 😣
 
Took the Great Whyte out this morning in what I thought was going to be a break in the pissing down rain,( was for a short while )but still blowing a hooley. The EMTB and Turbo modes took care of the strong Northerlies.
First stop Cambois Rowing club, newly installed jetty thanks to a lottery grant. A man is sweeping the river to clear said jetty of debris washed down the Wanny ( River Wansbeck ) and the river is running full after persistent rain.

I got caught in a few savage heavy rain/hail showers but love to see an angry sea.
By the time I got home the rain had stopped to give me just enough time to hose and towel the bike off, GT 85 the drive train and stick it back in the shed.
No Palm Trees here @steve_sordy either 😆.
Certainly blew the cobwebs off, showered and grear in the washer I feel fantastic, loved the ride.
