Pic of the Day

I guess it really comes down to how you define mountain biking. When I read about the Repack Races, it sounded more like gravel bikes. Then again, I was riding BMX bikes thru trails (of course we built jumps!) in the bushes around our houses in the 'burbs back in early 70s as well. Maybe I invented mountain biking (but on BMX bikes)?
Any way, for those who are interested, Cove Bikes was ONE of the pioneers of mountain biking on the North Shore along with a bunch of other crazy teens with nothing better to do in the '70s.

I remember staying at Ratagan youth hostel in 80s I'm thinking. I must have had a bike as I was asked if I was doing the RSF ride. It left from Invergarry probably 30 miles on road to Kinlochhourn then off road to Arnisdale , back on road to Glenelg and up over the Ratagan pass to the hostel. 56 miles seems to ring a bell. He said you want to see the state of some of them at the end. I did half of it many moons ago quite enjoyable I thought.

Got out today dressed like a paraffin lamp I admit. Not many out a few crazy golfers. Cold and windy. Keep something for seven years they say , found a pair of old work boots in the shed worn for 3 weeks a long time ago. As waterproof as anything I have owned , not the trendiest I must admit.

Some call it stingy or old fashioned, I call it sustainable! 👍

I can lay claim to riding down steep stuff long before BMX was a thing ..on a tourer with Sturmey Archer 3spd grip shift gearing on massive pit heaps ( coal waste) in the North West Durham coalfields when I was just a nipper ..
I rode the same bike on a School ( not mine) trip in 1969 which my uncle led ..(he was the history teacher at said school)..I'd be 12 years old and the youngest on the tour..I remember coming down Snaefell mountain ( Isle of Man) .. on tarmac (asphalt) with the speedo bouncing off the scales max'd 40mph ..mind you there was another lad riding a Raleigh Chopper and had an arse that finished at the back of his neck after the 10 day trip( that long thin saddle just about split him in half ) 😁
..so maybe I was an Mtb pioneer along with God knows how many others 🤔 😂
Wow, that brings back memories!! I lived in Bradford and I was somewhere between 8 and 10 (1959-1961). I had a steel bike with Sturmey Archer 3-speed gears. It had brakes operated by steel linkages; I think they might have been called rod-brakes, but I'm not sure. The bike even had steel mudguards front and rear. My Dad had rubbed them down and painted them with white gloss paint; I thought it looked the absolute business!

I can remember riding down "The Black Hills" with my mate. They were probably old coal-mine slag heaps. Falling off was not an option. Ruts were a problem!

Pink Floyd ..pretentious rubbish !!!???..
You simply don't know what you are talking about sunshine ..or haven't listened to enough ( although the early stuff with Syd did naff all for me )

I consulted the Urban Dictionary for a good definition of "Lost my cherry". It has never failed me before, but I got this:

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Sorry, we couldn't find: lost my cherry

So, I tried "popped my cherry" instead. If I cut and paste the content, I believe that the Sheriff will not like it at all. But if you really want to know, follow the link below:

My problem began almost immediately on a flat MTB peddle. Always used clipless pedals on my road and gravel bikes previous to my stroke. The unclipping motion for my left foot was no longer possible during a ride. If my left foot came off the flat pedal during a ride I would have to stop and correctly place my foot on the pedal. This made absolutely no sense to me …it was frustrating. Then I thought; Hey! “What about a magnetic shoe or pedal?”

I sat down at my coffee table and started drawing up designs that could work …for about 2-3 hours. I thought WOW, am I every smrt. 🙄. If I Patent this idea I could make millions $$$.lol

Then I decided to Google “Magnetic Peddles “. I had one of those Laugh Out Loud moments when I saw that there was a variety of manufacturers waaaay ahead of me.

I now use Avery Hustle magnetic peddles. 😎

My arm sling tore once (arms still attached, but completely paralysed) was a nightmare having it flap about
Ended up tucking it down the front of my shorts and bollox to all the weird looks :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

A flappy leg though would be dangerous and touger to tuck in the front of your shorts :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Does it accidently lock out, or you have some control over it?

Cheers
Mark

Different cultures may have different definitions? You may need to refinement your request.…or choose another fruit 🍉 🍎🍌 .

Edit; A member in our Fantasy Football 🏈 chat room uses Gangsta speak all the time. I need to refer to the Gangsta Dictionary. 🤔

Does the water  have to be carried on the bike or would something like this help ?
Thank you for the suggestion
I have a EVOC hip pack, tried it for a month but find it really uncomfortable
Big belly but no ass doesn't seem like a great shape for hip packs

It's also got this velcro strap plus a clip that's an absolute nightmare to put on, even then it's either too tight or loose enough that it rubs my rear tyre with the dropper down.
Started using my ancient UE running vest, still prefer water bottles, but it's the thing i notice least when carrying water.
