Pic of the Day

Yeah, about as good as we got trying to avoid the known mud pits. You wouldn't know it but this is Chichester harbour and the Eastern Solent.

My latest project bike is now complete. I was looking for something to ride around the village but just incase my partner expressed an interest, she could also use it to ride some green trails on the Northshore. That being said, the bike had to be home grown and have Northshore roots (at least a local frame). Since my partner already has a bike, I was wondering if she would be able to tell them apart as they are both black. They are both great for riding around the village but neither have turned out to be that good at the local pump track. I am going to give the Knolly a try on the Shore next Spring to see if I can notice a 10 year difference in it and my current bike. Thanks to Pinkbike and Aliexpress for making this all happen for less than $1000. Which one do you like better?

Top one for me. I like the idea of a cycle round the village ,Vancouver 🤔

Snow’s gone Mud’s on, Sunday ride. Life’s little moments of joy: Riding in daylight at winter ❤️. Had third flat tire this year, I don`t even remember last time before this year, must be at least 10-15 years ago. 😂 Last two this year were high speed situations straight to some sharp rocks. This time it was unknown trail, tiny but steep drop to unknown landing covered by leafs and of course there was something sharp under 😀 But two camel shits and EDC pump fixed it nicely and I got home.

Fairly short today due to time constraints plus a cold and trapped nerve (old git problems ;)) but didn't want to miss out on the nice clear sunny weather, with a comfortable 4°C.

Where I live is blessed with plenty of forests and lakes but is pretty flat, thought there's a couple of larger hills - today's 144m above sea level, got 108m accent in.

Made studious use of the dropper, and was a lot of fun with the recently new tyres and fork.

Probably my last off-road ride of this year.

Of the two black bikes ..aesthetically the Knolly ..but man that rear tyre looks as if it belongs in the bin 🙄 😁
The bikes are around the same vintage with the COVE GSpot being the more nostalgic of the two (Cove Bikes being the pioneers of mountain biking). The rear tire on the Knolly is a Maxxis Hookworm which is their urban/pump track/dirt jump version. I have another rear wheel for the Knolly, with a Maxxis DHR, for when we give it a try on the North Shore.

My pal was a cove dealer so I remember them well. My neighbour bought a soiled fame from halfords own make Carrerra ? 80 quid it was a exact copy of the Cove Hustler.

I was gonna ask why also?
For clarification, I meant this calendar year. Realistically, as I've very limited time as it is, on the run up to Xmas (particularly with a young family) I'm unlikely to get out for the next couple of weekends. Old friends to meet up with, Christmas markets to visit etc.

January tends tends to be hard weather wise, and after a week of riding through snow to work and back in all honesty I'm not that motivated to go out again at the weekend, even if time allows.

This year I started again in February, which isn't too bad. Depends on how messed up the weather is :D

You are forgiven my son ..😇

Wow @Bones you did well to get out today, was dark and nasty sheight down here in West Sussex today 😞
Well we set off towards the west in the rain and 1/2 hour later all the rain had passed us. Just got a bit wet on the last couple of miles home.
Although I personally was extremely wet all day after falling into a swollen beck whilst trying to stay dry crossing it ☹️

Now then ..I was always told that a certain Gary Fisher was the Grand-daddy of Mountain Biking..
I started my mtb life on a Gary Fisher Wahoo..fully rigid ..
I guess it really comes down to how you define mountain biking. When I read about the Repack Races, it sounded more like gravel bikes. Then again, I was riding BMX bikes thru trails (of course we built jumps!) in the bushes around our houses in the 'burbs back in early 70s as well. Maybe I invented mountain biking (but on BMX bikes)?
Any way, for those who are interested, Cove Bikes was ONE of the pioneers of mountain biking on the North Shore along with a bunch of other crazy teens with nothing better to do in the '70s.

I can lay claim to riding down steep stuff long before BMX was a thing ..on a tourer with Sturmey Archer 3spd grip shift gearing on massive pit heaps ( coal waste) in the North West Durham coalfields when I was just a nipper ..
I rode the same bike on a School ( not mine) trip in 1969 which my uncle led ..(he was the history teacher at said school)..I'd be 12 years old and the youngest on the tour..I remember coming down Snaefell mountain ( Isle of Man) .. on tarmac (asphalt) with the speedo bouncing off the scales max'd 40mph ..mind you there was another lad riding a Raleigh Chopper and had an arse that finished at the back of his neck after the 10 day trip( that long thin saddle just about split him in half ) 😁
..so maybe I was an Mtb pioneer along with God knows how many others 🤔 😂
