This time at Sölden bike park

It really continues as a Jäger Steig aka trail made of stone slabs for quite a long distance
Some years ago in winter time I came down from up there in the back by snowboard. Loooooong ride down the valley. Lots of ski resorts in the Alps switching to summer mountain activities to compensate fading days with snow in winter. What might be not so good for their mountain nature as well.

Chase and Penyard on the Rail today. It was planned as a solo ride but by chance I met up with some people I know and occasionally ride with. Which was nice.

Until it wasn't...

Nice little OTB on a rocky section.

In other, happier, news; my new 7IDP knee pads work.

Decided to pop up to Gisburn Forest yesterday. Good afternoon riding once I got there. I forgot the Royal Lancashire Show was on and I had to travel through all the traffic getting there. Came back a different route! ;-)

Did one and a half loops of "The Eight", 20 miles bar a few yards, 2200ft of climbing, 1650kCals burnt off.

Much drier than I was expecting after Saturday afternoon's downpours. Not that busy either, plenty of spaces in the car park.

Only weird thing there were plenty of families cycling (mum, dad, kids) - that's not the weird bit - but they were taking them on the Red runs - not safe on some of them runs!

Also, twice I came across people walking the trails! One couple were on the Hope Line walking down. I had "stern" words with them about how dangerous the trail is with bikes hurtling down to do the rollers and jumps.

Also some of the lower Eight (Circle, Rocky Road) had been harvested (trails still maintained, well done Forestry England) so it felt weird riding what were dark, tight, twisty trails with close in tree trunks in broad daylight and just avoiding tree stumps...

Evidence...

Battery did well on the Rise (360wHr) - almost 40% left by the end, another 16 miles range on Eco according to the display.

Winterberg bike park or as they say nowadays The Mother 😳
The Mother? As they do use otherwise on the website and for shops the german „Mutti“ the translation „Mother“ might not be accurate. The way we use Mutti is more like „Mummy“ / „Ma“.

Not to mix up with the other famous Mutti in Europe:

or our former Mutti Merkel 😂

I love tinned tomatoes on a cooked breakfast 😋...but chopped ..no way man ..they have to be "plum"..

First ride out for a couple of weeks (yesterday)after an otb damaged the "rotator cuff" in my shoulder ..this following a cortisone injection on Tuesday which hasn't fully had a chance to kick in ..so did a "local" ride with very little technicality to ease back into things ..namely The Lakeside Way starting from the small car park near Kielder Viaduct ...
Its a 27 mile multi user route following the shoreline of Kielder Resevoir ..and bugger me but I can't remember the last time I did the full circuit which is a bit of a shame as what it lacks in technicality it more than makes up for in scenery ...and "art works" on the way around .
Apologies ..( but not really) for the amount of pics which follow.

Above..you should be able to see Robins Hut on the other side of the water..but the trees now seem to be blocking the view..
A little way further along the trail it becomes visible ( below)

This is the half way point being the bottom end of the resevoir ( but in reality it's a shorter route back ..on the North Shore )

1000007472.jpg

Long before the multi purpose trail was built there was a skinny little section of singletrack along part of the North Shore which formed part of my " from the door " route when we lived in Falstone ..and I always stopped at these rocks for a little " contemplation" ..

Shortly after this I left the Lakeside Way..to follow the forest road towards Wainhope ( bothy) where upon cresting the hill I could access the excellent section of singletrack on the Osprey Trail..before re-joining the Lakeside Way again ..

Nearly back to the car now ..crossing over the Kielder ( train ) Viaduct ..closed in 1958 ..

Upon arriving back at the car ..and with 60% battery remaining ..decided to have a chocolate bar ( curly wurly & freddo) ..a drink ..then went off to do the last section of the Deadwater Trail ..as the shoulder felt fine 🙂
Cracking ride 👌 1000007463.jpg 1000007467.jpg
Whoops ..last two pics out of sync 😊

Stupid me! I first read „Lonesome Pine Closet“ and translated closet with loo, what could be helpful too. 🫣😂
