Having bowed to the devastation left behind by storm Arwen and left Hamsterley for another day ..The EMF and myself headed for the Cheviot hills where truth be known we are both happiest ..riding natural trails in big hills .
At least that was the plan .. but once again snow stopped play ..at least as far as getting up to the Border Ridge but thwarted we just rode other hills lower down the food chain and had a great time..

Every single tree plantation wherever you look shows signs of utter devastation

Up ahead the track to the left climbs Hazely Law where the farmers tractor tracks had done a half decent job of helping to melt the snow ..at least so far up..

But then things got a little tougher and we had to admit defeat and find other hills to ride ..

Looking back at where we had been ..
Where we finished though was in the Rose & Thistle in Alwinton for a quick.. err..refreshment ..( cheers Wayne ) ..
Great ride and a good laugh ..( hope the knee is OK..) ..and yeah we both had a tumble or two as usual but riding on ice & snow it was kind of expected 😂
See you all next year ..
 
What a great ride out today in The Cheviots with The Hodge. TBH the forecast wasn’t good with heavy persistent rain from 10.00 am, but what a surprise to find snow, ice and frozen ground.
Climbs were interesting with sometimes no traction, descents we’re equally interesting with almost no traction. I had a little off when pushing a bit tooooo hard on frozen trails and the front washed out but hey ho……
Nice drink in the Rose and Thistle good craic with The Hodge and these Ebikes we are lucky enough to own are a wonderful thing.

I couldn’t waste the weather forecast for today….promising clear blue skies so I headed for the hills this time up the Breamish Valley in the Cheviots.

The Linhope Spout waterfall had a lot more water running over it compared to when The Hodge and I last visited.
The hills were resplendent in the winter sunshine, also very cold in the valley where the sun didn’t penetrate.
A great morning out though.

Very rare I will post food pics but I'm totally stuffed after this. Hound burger from local pub with peppercorn stilton topped fries, bloody lovely. Yesterday was my first ride in a long time as been hit with the not COVID bug and still feeling like shit but felt I needed to get out. No pics and the ride was short as my energy just sapped. Today I mustered the courage to eat and decided to go big or go home lol.
