As i said this is as good as the cream above the milk…waitng for the real mud..i hope..italy is known for the sun…

Having put the planned ride to Whinlatter on hold ..my good mate Jaco suggested a local ride starting at Vindolanda one of the visitor centres on Hadrians ( Roman ) Wall ...
After seeking assurances that we wouldn't be riding on the wall itself ( as it's a World Heritage site ) ..and getting a reasonably positive answer ..in that the ride would be very naughty the majority being on footpaths ..but none on the actual wall ..I gave it the thumbs up ..
Those who have met Jaco will attest to the fact that he is the world's oldest kid / naughtiest schoolboy so I still had a certain amount of trepidation when we set off ..
80% of the ride turned out to be on shit we shouldn't be on but while it was short on technicality ..it was quite an adventure and a great laugh ..especially when we called into The Sill cafe 3/4's of the way around ..Jaco got the latte's in then proceeded to furtively eat his own hot cross buns & oatmeal biscuits which had me in stitches when he thought he had been rumbled ..😂

And while we may not have been on the actual Roman Wall..this is a footpath running parallel to it ..recognise the tree ..yep it features in the opening sequence of Robin Hood Prince of Thieves ..( Kev Costner was on a day off which was very disappointing )

The first part of the wall was built by the Romans ..and the official path is on the other side ..where folks are walking up the steps ..
A great day out and while it was naughty Jaconelli is of Italian ancestors and reckons his family helped build the thing so had a lifetime pass to be there ...

I thought that tree was in Nottinghamshire 😳🤣

Bit of gossip on the trail today. I bumped into the ops director for a chain of bike shops, told me his firm are trying to open an account with Hope but they've closed trade applications for two years because they can't cope with demand & the root cause is supply of raw materials, componentry etc.

Slumming it today…

Dropped some of my dad’s ashes here yesterday so it was nice to stop and say hi.

Ending the ride with cake seemed like a good idea.

Of course, no ride would be complete if I didn’t bin it in a no fall zone… 😳

Luckily for me I managed to land on the trail and not go over the edge…

Nice circuit up to the Devil's Punchbowl yesterday mist at the bottom, sun at the top(y) Quite a few of the track and trails showing significant erosion after last weeks rain though. A good 27 miles and 2,500ft climbing - and still 70% on battery and range extender.
