Pic of the Day

Unwanted bling, Burgetc UDH hanger. Black ones were out of stock. Not big fan of my totally black levo, but not big fan of anonized parts either…but maybe color matching stem  but one thing is sure, if this is as stiff as Santa Cruz original hanger on my Bullit, I never go back to those Sram ones…

What do you use to find and navigate the tracks?
Generally, OSMand PRO when navigating. It's a bit quirky when you first use it but it's great once you get used to it.

Then just follow your highlighted section on the screen (you can also enable navigation, but I don't).

When you zoom in it also has all the other mountain trails shown so you can then just follow them and link yourself up to whatever general direction you want to go in, or head back to a road.

You can add in other layers like mountain huts and just about anything else you can think of.

Then just tell it which tracks you want displayed, you can change the colour boldness and other things to give you more visuals on altitude etc.

Wikiloc is pretty good for finding 4*4 routes, off road bike routes, walking routes, then download the gpx files.

Or here :

I also have a lot of offline maps downloaded so you don't get caught out.

Just about to go to bed last night when an alarm on phone went off. Checked and it appeared that a very high chance of viewing the Aurora from anywhere in the UK. So stepped out and took following shots with phone. Only lasted 15 mins and only 2nd time I have experienced them here in South Wales

what app do you use to notify you?

Out with Ant & Jaco this morning on a ride which started at Hexham Racecourse it takes in some fantastic flowing singletrack along the top edge of a valley for about 5 km before heading out over the moors towards Allendale .
This used to be a favourite night ride back in the day when we still did that type of riding ..
Ant said he had never ridden the woodland singletrack in daylight and estimated that it must be 17 years since he had ridden it at night ..its about 5 years since I'd last been on it a little longer for Jaco ..quite why we have neglected this for so long is a mystery as its right up there as some of the finest ribbons of natural singletrack in Northumberland ..
The pics Im about to post really dont do it justice ..

First punny in a while & so first time using the mini electric pump. I say first, I did use it for another guy last year who after I'd pumped up his tyre, said thanks, the mountain bike gods will bless you.

Twenty minutes later I went over the bars & ended up off the bike for five months.

Hmmm 🤔, that little pump looks interesting. Easy to fit in a pac and fairly lightweight. Good trail-side tool.

Errr…hopefully you didn’t use the same guy, who patched up that barn roof, to patch you up also.

Welcome back to the saddle 👍🏻

Wet and windy ride on the High Peak trail and the Tissington trail. Both reclaimed old railway lines in Derbyshire . All gravel so a bit boring but wonderful scenery and you get a real sense of the graft that went into building the lines back in the day

Nothing like a long flat road to bore you to bits. Nearly as bad as paddling a kayak up a long loch in to the wind haha.

None EMTB related again. But will add in on the travel options

Stayed at a really cool château last night.

1000029456.webp

It was absolutely enormous. Best of all, unlike most really old Châteaus and castle's, you could go everywhere!

1000029477.webp

Had it's own chapel and it's own church.

1000029472.webp

It was so large some sections were just abandoned

I lost track of the number of hallways and towers I climbed.

So anyway, useful things ..

I've invented a new 4*4 trail grading system ! You just see how much your beer can has worn !!

1000029464.webp

Ok, so if you are traveling off road moto, 4*4, or want to traverse parts of Europe with your EMTB and try to stick to small roads/off road, then TET is a good source of gpx files where people have linked all the trails together with road sections.

For example :

1000029418.webp

Beware, if you're in a 4*4, trails are intended for Moto, so some will be a tight fit !

We met two Germans earlier who caught us up during a coffee break, so we followed them until one fell off on a steep rocky/muddy descent after a really technical section, so they broke off to recover at a bar. Spoke to them later and the other one had a puncture,.so expect excitement!

Apologies for all the none EMTB content !

For anyone really sad (like me) ..

From a disused 500 year old wine cellar, to the top of one of the towers !
