Anyone's old pads look like this on your 4 piston units? Small unworn bit where it does not contact disc.

you have your caliper spaced too far out.
change to the correct adapter or remove spacers

Yeah I thought that but it is as the factory put it, which is why I asked other owners.
There's no spacers as such, just the adaptor between the caliper and the fork leg.

That probably explains the persistent zinging noise - outside edge of rotor touching side of unworn pad.

Well, I believe it's a 200 rotor (from the specs). I'll see if I can verify with part numbers. I would think mine would not be the only one though given the whole shebang is OEM.
Maybe I'll grind 2 mm of the face of the adaptor bracket.
Maybe I'll ask the LBS I bought it from.

OK, turns out it's a 180.
All the part numbers check out for that combination.
The new pads now installed don't appear to have the same degree of overlap of the disc - vernier calipers say maybe about 0.4mm, though it is a fiddly measurement to make.
I'll ask the "experts" at the shop but if I have to take the pads out every now and again and grind the unworn material off, I can live with it.
Worst case I can grind a mm or so off the bracket face, though if I don't get it perfectly flat and square I'll probably have issues adjusting caliper position..
At least I think I found the "zing" - I know others have had this so maybe that helps.

...or I could look into a 203 setup - doesn't look to dear and might help going down the eastern Camp Mountan break....

Yeah I know - It'l nag me if i don't.
I guess I couldn't go too far wrong with emery paper on a glass plate.
What nags me more is why it left the factory like that.

What happens if you put that spacer on the other way around?

Put the 203mm disc and adaptor on.
The 203 adaptor QM42 needs shorter retaining screws to the fork than the stock 180 one so I had to improvise some spare 316 allen screws and a couple of washers.
Also changed the pads from 9.P to 8.P. The 8's use retaining pins (included) and are 4 descrete units rather than a set of 2 with 2 pads on each.
It looks as though there is not as much overlap of the pad to the disc now - I guess a bit of wear will show.

Bit of a bargain really - about $55 AUD for the adaptor and the disc.

Lol Gary, how many people have a metal file let alone a vise for holding the adapter these days.
If I was still lived with my ex wife I could of set it up in my milling machine and accurately machine it to size.
That's just showing off though.

Having a difficult time here...any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Front and rear MT5, Magura HC 203mm on both F/R I have the 180 to 203 adapter on the rear. the pads are level with the top of the rotor on both front and rear calipers so I am at least fairly confident I have the correct adapters.

I Have a totally stock 140 Race 625 with (based on the build spec) 203 rotors. Just took the pads out for the first time yesterday and have the same issue i.e lip/unused material at the top of the pads and a zinging noise from the rotors. As others have said there is no adjustability in the system that I can see other than calliper L/R but not up/down so a bit lost.. Is this a build issue with the incorrect spacer size?

Normally the Magure PM adapters have the size printed on the inside, if theres a lip, then the adapter is wrong.
Sounds like 200 rotors with +23mm Adapters.

On my Yeti SB150 I have a Rockshox ZEB, that has 200mm standard so no adapter needed, to get the 203mm rotors, 1.5mm spacers are needed....
