People who don't really understand biking ??

Amflow - for Nordic walkers, waterskiers, darts players, knitters, skydivers, origamists, gynaecologist (I'm making the giant presumptuous leap that as Dentists seem to be the default S-Works purchasers, then people who work downstairs don't do bikes). This excludes anyone who has cross over interests and only the ones who have never ridden a bike, never owned a bike and never will own or ride a bike.

If I'm to understand correctly, a bike with a new motor (more motors is a good thing) which is smaller, lighter, more powerful and has more torque than all the other main stream motors. Is faster at climbing than most of the other bikes which conform to the same power rules (one of the main reasons we have an EMTB is because we want to climb faster than on an MTB - for me anyway). A bike with nice handlebar controls and a nicely integrated display. A bike with good default support settings within it's modes. A bike which can give great range and altitude if ridden appropriately.

OK, it's not PERFECT - what bike is and it certainly won't be PERFECT for everyone - but again, what bike is. Lots of it's default specs aren't everyones cup of tea - but again - this is the same with many bikes and we change things - it's part of "biking" ..

Effectively, a bike which would probably suit 80-90% of riders here straight out of the box if they ignore their pre-conceptions ? But it's only for people who don't understand biking ??? Help me here !

The weird thing is that everyone who seems to sprout out their negative views on the bike are people who don't have one - Whereas the people who do have one all seem to love it. I'm yet to read of anyone who's said "sh1t, why did I buy this bike, I clearly don't understand biking, why didn't I buy a goldfish"

I mean the in depth reviews I saw so far said that the rear suspension gets stuck on rough tracks like it has pedal kickback or something. Like ok on mellower tracks but that's it. The trunnion shock also means you can't fit some dh dampers I think.

The levo stock kinematics are ok like it gives comfort and traction but for bigger hits or if you're a bigger person the cascade links are a better option.

but its about to be superceded by gen4... how much will they be in 3 months once everyone is looking at the new bike instead? will also effect 2nd hand values. Personally I'm waiting to see the gen4 first. Although I admit this might mean stock runs out of the older models in the meantime.

The discounts are certainly surprising, example 2025 levo comp £4500 (I paid £5500 in 2019 for my gen2) - kenevo expert 2024 - £5K - 2023 levo pro 6K
 
It‘s not like the Gen3 Levo will suddenly become a terrible bike?

I do think the EMTB world seems to be inhabited by more than its fair share of the ‘bike acquisition syndrome’ types who must have the latest and greatest thing?! Yes, that might have described me once upon a time…

Residuals are only an issue if you’re looking to sell it on to buy the next latest and greatest thing, probably better to buy based on the bike meeting your needs and riding, how supportable it is (warranty etc) and spares availability and aftersales service. That‘s maybe just me though.

In what world is a €10,000-€11,000 bike not expensive? Bike manufactures have deluded us into think these sale prices are good value when in reality the sale prices are what the retail prices should be.
 
You can buy a really nice Yamaha R1 for £5000 and the R&D, tech and manufacturing involved in that is way way more than any emtb

I have had 5 motor failures. Greater reliability is high on the wants list for me. A bit more motor power would be nice too. Neither of those will come from gen3.

5?! That’s pretty bad, how did they fail/warrant replacement?

Is it a Gen 3 you’ve got?
 
It's not like the G3 will be worse than it was when the G4 arrives, and what is expensive or cheap is up to the buyer, while a lot matters more than less, just like numbers

Any idea when they’re going to announce it so I can decide what new bike to buy? The other option I’m considering is down to 2 frames left in my size for the year.

Yep, it was my original plan but I’m trying to hold off to at least see what the gen 4 levo is actually going to be. It’s easier to go with the Levo because I can walk into the local Spesh shop and buy one vs having to jump through hoops getting the Crestline over here.

Pages ago I mentioned I’d been to the HQ for a business meeting in early December and was lucky enough to get a tour and sit on the bikes that had only just come in from the far east as they were being built and packed in to a shipping container ready for the media event that just took place. I don’t have an NDA or anything but as a business partner and out of respect for them I have kept my insights limited (apart from some of my besties on here in real life they have all the details 😉)

I remember when the levo Gen 2 was launched and I was blown away to swap my 2016 gen 1 expert for the 2019 Gen2 expert. I didn’t bother with the Gen3 instead I went to a Santa Cruz with the awful EP8 that then lead me to the KSL which I have had for nearly 3 years and love it still and also to add the new Levo SL almost a year ago, again I love this bike.

I was about to pull the trigger on the SC Vala, it was my plan to get one in the new year, then I got to see the Levo and it stopped me. There is for sure one thing I am not to keen on but that’s a style over function thing and I totally understand why they went that way. I think I can live with it.

The most difficult obstacle is the price for me. I don’t mind to spend 8-10k on a bike, it’s all relative so value vs what you can afford etc is a very personal thing. The bikes I saw were all S works I think, although there were two colours, they all had the new Fox wireless droppers so I guess S works and no Pro’s.

I think these will be €15k that’s just a guess as I can’t remember when we were talking what was mentioned, that’s a lot of money for me to spend on a bike, again just a guess but even the pro if that’s a thing will be well over 10k so even that would be pushing it as I don’t I want to drop that much money on a bike that I will probably keep until i fancy a change and then give away for peanuts.

Best guess I will end up waiting for an expert, if that’s arrived in 2025 I don’t know. I am back next month so maybe I’ll try and find out then from the guys at HQ.

Or I will get carried away and just buy the s works as soon as I see it LOL, life is short after all.

This is one of the things I was wondering as there was a rumour that there was going to be a long travel version. I guess Spesh likes to keep the guys at Cascade employed😂🤣
 
840 is a nice uplift, specially if we can use an extender too….


Last thing for me… full 29?
