Important safety note from Canyon: the Spectral:ON CF / CFR and Torque:ON CF models may have damage to the battery

Canyon are massively dragging their feet on my full refund/return request.

Initial email requesting refund and setting out my legal position was sent on 21/12.
First reply from Canyon received on 09/01 saying “I have escalated your case to senior management for your request for a refund.”
Absolutely nothing since then.

They have until 21/01 and then I’ll be initiating the return process via Klarna instead — I dare say Canyon won’t like that as they’ll be penalised by Klarna and won’t have any control over how much money they keep for the “use” (pfft) we’ve had of the bike.
As expected, nothing from Canyon since 09/01. I've sent them another email as a final attempt to resolve it "in house", they have until the end of today and then I'll be escalating via Klarna.

Some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced, I will never buy another Canyon (a shame as I was planning on buying an Aeroad this year) and I'll be warning everyone else off them too.

Does that mean they have a solution but sorted their own stock first? That's not good if that's the case.

Only smalls available which can’t take the 900wh battery. So only available with 700wh

Apparently only smaller sizes (S) are available again to purchase ...
 
I went to the canyon site and picked the small Canyon spectral on CF7 (they had a line draw through all of them) and it said it was coming soon, so I picked on all the larger sizes and it said it was going to be available 2/10-13/25. I went back to the site 15 minutes later and it said all sizes were unavailable.
 
Mines a 720wh S and I have the battery issue notice so surely they’ve changed something to make them sellable
If there are new batteries then from a corporate point of view it would make financial sense to fit them to new unsold bikes before dealing with the retrofitting problem. Just saying.
 
I see Spectral:On webpage on the Canyon site has been revamped. Encouragingly it names 900W battery
 
Be alert, this is in Canyon web page ''The next update with further details will be on 24th January'', lets hope they give as an exact date with the solution
 
I received an update: shipment new battery will start from March.
 
Off Canyon Website: Batteries will begin shipping in March and will continue to be dispatched regularly until all replacement orders are fulfilled. Delivering replacement batteries to all affected customers at the earliest opportunity remains our highest priority.
 
I honestly think that given the fact that the Torque is an amazing bike, this is good news. In a sense people should be happy to have a 0km 100% healthy battery :D

It is a shame they have not been more specific about how the replacement batteries have been "optimised". That might inspire a little more confidence in the future reliability and safety of the battery.
 
Just ordered mine. Also, i'm yet to receive my portal refund 14 days into the "7-10 working days".

If your summary is correct it sounds like a fudge to me! So the battery casing can still crack but that's OK because the cells are more water tight!! Predictably the root cause of the problem....in my opinion the fixing system in a flexible carbon downtube.....is not addressed. Owners need to make their own judgement but if I owned one I would be looking to return the bike as not fit for purpose.

what has been requested, naturally Canyon have been somewhat quiet in their response so have esculated this to the credit supplier (Klarna) who have told me to stop payments untill this is resolved and they have taken discussion with canyon (y)

Well, this sounds like a solution far from optimal from owers perspective. I'm glad that i returned it and bought Strive instead.

Exactly this, and in an acceptable timeframe… I’m happy I’m getting a fresh battery to be honest. The bike is great I’ve had 0 issues even with current battery. Yes we were all disappointed but realistically this is the best outcome unless you want to wait a year
