Important safety note from Canyon: the Spectral:ON CF / CFR and Torque:ON CF models may have damage to the battery

It’s incredible the amount of these bikes for sale these days, even from second hand pro shops … can’t believe nobody got the information before trying to sell it

think they HAVE had th emails etc. and are trying to escape :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

although trying to sell something that you KNOW has issues or a recall etc. is shitty🤬🤬🤬

What's the problem with the mounting? Specialized Levo has a single threaded joint in its battery. And the battery is also unique and only suitable for a specific model. The battery itself (the case) is not made of cheap thin plastic, as was done for the Сanyon. Not a fan of Canyon, BTW.

That’s clearly a design fault. It might be because of mount location, number of mounts to spread out the load, etc. Don’t know if the plastic alone is the problem (but it could be, maybe too thin to save on weight).

Trendpower/Simplo is a big player in battery pack manufacturing (for IT and LEV markets). If you have an Iphone, it will have a Simplo battery…

Regarding Specialized batteries, they are manufactured by the same company (Trendpower/simplo). As with other brands (BH, Scott, Flyer, Fantic just to name a few). Each battery is designed according to each bike manufacturer specs (frame manufacturer or ebike electric system manufacturer). They use different shapes, housing materials, connectors, communication protocols, etc. For example, Yamaha system also uses 3rd party batteries, guess what, manufactured by Trendpower. They have aluminium casing.

Hm... But what the problem with the design? Location is the same, mounts 2 vs 1. Is it much different from the Spec's battery design?

The canyon relies on multiple screw fixtures to retain the case half’s whilst Specialized uses a continuous run of plastic clips around the perimeter of both half’s. I’m not a product engineer but it if I had to guess the forces necessary to hold the case together are distributed around the case perimeter longitudinally for Specialized and concentrated in points by canyon. A Specialized type system would fin in the same space as the canyon battery.
Some smart project engineers are going to have to get busy or copy proven case structure.

We are discussing about the design of the battery mounting, not a battery design itself. The Canyon's battery case is crap (plastic, 2 pieces, long thin bolts and etc). It's obvious.

It’s obvious that both are fundamentally co dependent, you would be well served by looking at the designs of both. I have clearly stated that I’m not a product engineer, could you please advise of your particular expertise that informs your strident assertion.

OMG... Did you read previous messages? Some guy said that mounting design (bolts thru the down tube into the battery) of Canyon is crap. I'm still waiting his "expertise". What do you want from me? And who needs your non-expert 2cents?

Hi guys,

Obviously there is a lot of tension in this thread due to this unfortunate problem.

Maybe my case will be a positive information for you:
I claimed for a full refund and it was accepted. Right now Im waiting for a wire transfer (up to 7 days after confirmation).

My suggestion is to not waste the time and claim your full refunds too and buy something else.

I consider now Propain ekano 2 CF but Im not sure if I want to go with direct to consumer again.

Seems to be managed differently in all countries… A friend of mine had a chat to customer service head in Germany today and his request of full refund was rejected again. He can accept the 260€ voucher for his CF7 and has to wait till feb for the final solution….

How did you request that ? I don't have a dog in this fight but if it makes it easier for people it would be good to explain how they can try for the same thing if they're that way inclined.

The answer is in his other messages, where he bought it in September 2024...
My several requests for a refund were declined (bought it in January 2024)
So I am trying with the court now
I don't like the company's behavior and don't want to wait with such intransparent solutions

I fill out the form on Cayon website asking for a full refund due to following reasons:
Ordered product does not meet an agreement with me as a consumer
There is no solution since the annoucment, therefore they are unable to bring product back to fully functional state
Due to the above I cannot use the bike which causes lossess for me
Product is unsafe and Im afraid of keeping it at home and have no other way to keep it
Due to situation product has no resell value and it will lost some of itw value even after the fix
This generates additional losses

Due to the above I proposed a amicable solution of full refund including shipping costs.

Same here in UK they said im outside the 30 day window...

Fine if youve had your bike under 6 months. Ive had mine 12 months
"You can ask a customer to prove an item was faulty when they bought it if they ask for a repair or replacement after 6 months."
It's clear that the battery issue is a manufacturing fault, ergo it was faulty when you bought it, therefore you have a right to reject the bike and request a refund even though you've had it for 12 months :)

Got my partial refund and will wait for the fix. I love this bike and buying in the sale means i wont find anything anywhere near as good for the price. Sizing, looks, battery (before issues), Motor where all spot on for me. Look forward to getting a fresh battery in feb.

But what is the ‘fix’🤔

As far as I’ve seen (& read) Canyon have never said we’d be getting a new battery 🤷‍♂️

It’s implied and the suggestion of sending your battery in for disposal hints that there’s replacements but…..

Sorry but I’m naturally cynical and suspicious 🤨

… partial refund received a week ago. So far everything proceeding much as promised. I’m optimistic that we’ll receive new-design batteries AND an extended warranty to further compensate for the downtime (although I admit that the latter is perhaps excessively optimistic…)
