Whats the best way to remove the chainring on the Levo? I tried doing it with the crank on and holding the little nuts on the back side with a wrnech but it just keeps spinning on me

Why don’t you just remove the cranks, plastic nut and use a gear puller to pop the chainring off? Easily done and how I do it.

You shouldn't have to remove the crank. May be just the right pedal (to be able to slide the chainring out after removing the bolts).

When I replaced my chainring, I used a special wrench from Park Tool (below) to hold the slotted chainring nuts in place while loosening or tightening the bolt. Chainring disassembly and re-installation was fairly quick and easy.

Just make sure you Locktite the bolts after replacing the chainring.

I needed to remove the crank and spider to get my chainring off. It wasn't possible to get adequate leverage on the back side of the crank bolts in my case.

Well I remvoed the crank but still cant get the cahinring off as it wont come off the spider without taking the spider off

Yup - edited my comment. I meant to say crank arm + spider. I used the lockring tool and a gear puller, as suggested above.

Off to my bike shop to get the tool lol. Was the lock ring torqued or does it unthread easily with a 32mm socket?

It's on there quite tight. The torque spec is 50 Nm or so if I recall for my 2022 Levo.

I'm about to try and remove my chainring. Before I start I would like to know which way the spider lockring comes off, is it a right hand thread or a left? I pulled the drive apart the other day and tried in both directions with no joy, I wasn't all that keen to put too much force on the locknut. I suspect its a left hand thread, other videos of other brands I've seen seem to support this.
I would appreciate a bit advise, please.
Regards Mike

My gen 2 levo chainring bolts thread directly into the chainring, no nuts on the back side. Came right off without removing crank or pedal

Thanks for the reply FjClay, unfortunately the Gen 3 doesn't. To replace the chain ring you need to remove the spider.
Mike

I can confirm, on Gen2 you can remove chainring without removing crank or spider, on Gen3 you have to remove crank and spider ...

Thanks for the tip... I need one of those! I always wondered what the correct tool was for the chain ring.

I was able to remove mine from my Gen3 without removing the crank. You just have to fiddle with it a bit and you'll find the right position.

It also depends what kind of chainring you have and how far youre prepared to push it (and risk damage/scratches) to get it over the spider ... I tried about 1/2 hour to find the right angle but it was a dead end so I decided to remove the spider ...

Hello, I have a gen 3 and I need to replace the chainring. So you didn’t need to remove the crank? Did you buy that Park tool to make removing the sprocket bolts easier? Thanks

No, I didn't use any special tools. Just a slim 10mm wrench for the nuts on the backside. Take your pedal off, remove the bolts and try a few different positions until you get it right. My riding partner told me hid did it on his bike, which is the same bike I have. That's all I needed to know. If he can do it, so can I!

Great, thank you very much. I have another question for you. What sprocket did you replace it with. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I used a Sram T-type 36 tooth chainring. I tried a Praxis chainring, but it requires different bolts that weren't included.

How did you remove the spider after take off groove nut?

Using small 2-arm puller and 24mm socket ... You should not push directly onto a crank shaft with a puller as this may damage the bearings inside, so you MUST use adapter C (spesh sells this adapter as a tool) or alternatively a 24mm socket ....

I would try taking it off without doing all that. If it's the stock 34t ring, it will come off. I'm no master mechanic and I did it. Just think of it as a puzzle

I have removed the 32T chainring without removing the spider on Gen2 Levo multiple times, but I was unable to do it on a Gen3 Levo (with 34T Xsync 2 chainring) after almost 1 hour of trying ... I think it also depends on which chainring the bike has, some are more likely to come off than others ....

My riding friend has a Gen3 just like mine and changed his out. I asked him if he had to remove the spider and he said he didn't, but he wasn't sure if I could... I thought that was a little condescending, and there's no way he's better at this than me, or that I would ever admit that. So it was game on, and I got it off rather quickly.!
