Hi Guy, I just want to some research about the battery life.im 200lb any on 90% eco mode ride,only doing under 30mi& about 3500-400ft elevation, Is that normal?please share what is your setting?

That doesn’t seem out of the question. In a mix of eco/trail I’ve gotten 6k’ and about 30 miles before. But I’m 160lbs and a fairly strong rider. You can go in the shimano app and turn your eco down to low. (Even though I did not like that setting since I felt like I was going slower than normal bikes).
 
That sounds about normal given you weight.
 
35-40 miles in Eco on terrain without large elevation gains (< or = to 3000')

30-35 miles in Trail on terrain without large elevation gains.

On straight high elevation days, basically dh runs pedaling back to top, cuts back battery to 25-30 miles on 4000' + type days, using combination trail/eco. Constant use of Trail mode on steep grades chews through battery fast.

175lbs rider high fitness level
 
My Decoy is new to me, but my longest so far entailed 4000' of rigorous climbing over 25 miles. Battery still registered 22% (per Garmin). I'm 165 lbs and fit but I reckon my bike is heavier than some because I'm running dual coil suspension and cushcore tire inserts. This was primarily Trail mode with some eco thrown in.

Keep in mind that Shimano Steps settings may vary.
Mine is set to:
Eco: high
Trail: low
Boost: medium
 
What is your mi for ride ?!
I did this ride on mostly eco, but some boost and trail near the end, and had over 20% battery remaining.

Trying to figure out the best way to get to the trail the fastest, not have to spend a ton of energy climbing.

I have a local trail that is about 8 miles away on flat paved path, once at the trail there are a few 2-3 mile loops with heavy climbing. I would then return back on the 8 mile path.

What would you guys recommend for mode settings?
 
My battery died this evening just before the final descent. 28km, 1460m vertical/climbing. I'm 80Kg. I ride in trail when doing the climbs and eco when descending. Think I'm going to set the battery to "off" for most descending now.

This evening was a total blast. Completely knackered now.

Eco: high
Trail: medium
Boost: medium

Seems to me better to think of it in feet climbed rather than miles. Mileage varies for me but I can get right around 4K feet of elevation, plus or minus depending on settings, how much steep tech I try and climb etc

I have all my modes set to high, rarely use boost. I had them set at different levels but honestly didn’t notice much difference in battery so they are all on high and mostly use eco and trail.



with eco in high I can use that on fire road climbs and trail for everything else.. boost sometimes.. or just to get home and burn up battery.

I wish shimano would do more with app.. ideally I would have it all in trail and have the switch set to low medium and high trail.. or maybe low trail, high trail, high boost.. something like that, would be nice to have that option. Also would be nice to be able to change on the fly without phone.

I rode with my daughter the other day on a flat path, we did 10 miles, and my bike was completely off.. on flat ground once you get it rolling it’s easy to pedal without any assist.

Agreed. I think it's more about feet/metres climbed rather than miles/kms distance. Your 4k feet of elevation is quite close to my 1400m (actually 4600 feet - but close enough). Also depends upon how techy the climbing trail is. For example, one of our climbing trails is a trail called "No Quarter" and it's very techy and seems to use more battery than going up the old access/gravel road.

tech climbs are the so fun on ebikes I tend to search out stuff that wouldn’t be possible on normal bike, think it does suck more battery than fire road grind.. then again most road grinds eco works fine.
 
Just did the ride today, all boost for the 8 miles to get out there and back, mix of boost and trail and came back with 1 bar.

15km, 800m from full battery to flat today. A lot of boost mode but some eco and trail too

and who said E-mtb's are for lazy people.. I'm exhausted!

Yes the more technical the more battery consumption. I think when the trails have for example a lot of rocks and roots you have to put in moments of full power so the motor supports 100% in a given setting. There is also something about peak power in a Shimano motor i believe. So it will deliver more power when you are just started rolling something that you will be doing when stuff gets technical.

Also, same Decoy (s, XXL) my wife is almost half my weight burns10-20% less battery in same amount of meters climbed. I can put in more power than she can for sure. So part of the smaller difference is rider input capability. I can get (100kg), riding in eco mid or high 1500 meters

Decoy 29 Base. Mostly in ECO (default) with the odd short Trail burst but also the odd OFF "burst" (bloody hard work).
I had 12km range left at the end in ECO.
All off road (South Downs Way in England), fair weather, 90kg rider.
Given the elevation gain, I think that's impressive.

I had 22% left on the battery
90% woods and dirt roads, 1% walk mode, and 2km asfalt. The bike had to carry 107kg gear included. Only the second charge on the battery. Still hope I could get at least 60-65km out of it, we will see.
 
That seem very consistent to my experience, unsurprisingly.
I have since then switched to double ply heavy Current Eddys which has probably cost 5% mileage but really worth it.

I had 26% left on the battery
90% singletrail, 10% fire roads. The bike had to carry 107kg gear included. Is the 4-th charge on the battery. It is getting there.
 
1st ride on my 29 Pro this morning. Only used eco mode and I turned motor off many times as my guilt set in. Was riding with a buddy on his analog bike. I also swapped bikes with him to give him a break.

I don’t know how to look what battery percentage was left, but I still had 4/5 bars left at the end of the ride.

I weigh 250 lbs and my bike weighed in at 50.1 lbs. I might have had another 5-7lbs with tools and water.

Im impressed, especially with my fat ass!
